What's new
Metal Upscaler 0.3.0
Fixed
MetalFX Temporal now works. It rendered a black screen before. The cause was a mismatched native call signature that fed the scaler garbage camera jitter. Temporal resolves noticeably more detail than spatial at the same render scale.
Shader clouds no longer draw through terrain. Iris builds its rendering pipeline before render scaling starts, so it was sized for the window rather than for the resolution the world is actually drawn at. Resizing the window used to be the only cure. Iris is now told to rebuild whenever the render-scale target changes. This affected anyone using Iris without Distant Horizons.
Fixed a crash on startup with Sodium installed, on both macOS and Windows.
Native AA now actually engages instead of silently doing nothing.
The HUD stays sharp and on top, and depth is handled correctly under shader packs, so clouds and terrain sort properly.
Changed
Simplified the options. Debug switches and advanced tuning are gone. On Apple Silicon you get MetalFX Spatial and MetalFX Temporal with a sharpness slider; elsewhere, Bilinear and Lanczos. Options that cannot work on your hardware are no longer shown.
Sharpness works on the MetalFX path again — it was being applied to a texture that never reached the screen.
With a shader pack loaded, render scale holds at your chosen preset instead of following the dynamic controller. Every scale change rebuilds Iris's pipeline, so following it frame to frame cost far more than it saved. Dynamic scaling is unchanged without shaders.
Experimental
Frame generation (Apple Silicon only, off by default, behind a warning).
It builds an extra frame between each pair of rendered ones and presents both, so the presented frame rate roughly doubles. Be aware of the trade: generating those frames uses GPU time that would otherwise draw real ones, so the number of real frames drops. On a GPU that is already working hard this can feel worse rather than better, and you may see flickering while moving. It is switched off unless you go looking for it.
Notes
Requires Minecraft 26.2 and NeoForge. MetalFX features need an Apple Silicon Mac; the mod runs on other hardware with the built-in filters.
