1.2 Point Release: Portal-Seared Tomes

I just had so much idea I had to get out of my head and onto paper this week... and somehow did! So I may have just thrown way too much mod out here for one release, but trust in JEI and you'll get through just fine. Now we're going past foundations and getting a feel for how the lore and major systems are going to play out in the mod, and I'm incredibly pleased with how it's coming together.

Added this version:

  • Portal-Seared Tomes: Some portals go further than others. These books have crossed unfathomable distances, and are sadly the worse for wear. Combine them to try and recover some of their lost knowledge. This is the entry-point for information and lore for this mod, and drops rarely from most vanilla undead. You might also find them in dungeon chests.
  • Runic Altar: The heart of your runic temple. Rune "Stele", or engraved stones, are incorporated in a freeform way to build and channel Radiance for magical crafting. (psst: This device is also automation-friendly! Point a RefinedStorage autocrafter at it! But then also definitely watch it go)
  • Kenaz Stele: Channels Radiance for use with the Runic Altar.
  • Raido Stele: Funnels Radiance from "generator" stele like Kenaz onto the Altar.
  • Nightshade Root: Left out of the seed drop table due to an oversight, can now be obtained in vanilla.
  • More JEI support: Smooth mod integration is a high priority for me, so I'm proud to say that the Runic Altar will support JEI lookup and recipe transfer right out of the box. (Consider Chisel and Neat, too!)
  • First-class Infuse Life effect: Used to be a SpellEffect, moving it to a potion/beacon effect gives vanilla and other mods better access to recognize it and manage it as the periodic status effect it is.
  • Rosetta Stone: Concentrates the recorded knowledge from six bookshelves into a compressed stone which provides 12 levels to an Enchanting Table's limit. The stone is also a strong light source, and is safe for incorporation in regular cosmetic building.

Changed This Version:

  • By request, most spells changed to take advantage of alpha transparency. Things look much more magical now!
  • Almost every spell effect got a second pass to make sure it effectively communicates its nature and range, and looks sufficiently magical. Healing Wave in particular got a lot of love.

Fixed This Version:

  • A pretty long-standing clientside visual effect bug was fixed, requiring all the visual effects to be rescaled to Proper Time. I think I got it all, but if anything seems elongated or wubs too fast, let me know.
  • Drain life particles home in on their target much better now. That was bugging me.

Upcoming Changes (Not in This Version):

The crafting process for some of the spell foci right now feels insufficient. I underestimated how easy it would be to group up mobs for chain lightning, for instance. These items may get "simple"-tier foci which can then be upgraded into better spells with the right ingredients. Even the Spell Focus Core might get hoisted up to an Altar recipe.

More Stele are on their way! Willing to rob villagers of their goodwill? Have spare horses you're willing to donate to science? Just really don't like Apatite? Tired of gazing at fire? (who ever gets tired of that?) Consume all of it for sweet, sweet radiance and the all-important EMC for new spells.

I'm sure there's a lot of balance to come.

Disclaimer- I have to say this at least once because there are runes: Do NOT use this mod in any way to promote intolerance. If you've read literally any story about odin, loki, or thor, you'll know they're weird, queer, cool characters that wouldn't want any part of your baggage. Love your fellow humans.
