What's new

0.0.16

Three strands: how the mod is played, what its metals and crystals become, and a handful of things the game itself never made sense of.

Two playstyles. Every rule of the mod now belongs to Lumina - the whole rulebook - or to normal play, the mod in any world. A new world starts on normal play: all of the content, none of the daily chores. Lumina is one row on the settings screen away.

Molten, cast, stamped, changed. Metal and crystal melt in a smeltery of their own, molten is poured into a casting mould and set into blocks or ingots, and aurium goes one step further - cast into bars, stamped at a press, changed at a scale. Lumina has money.

And some old oddities answered. A puddle takes a fall by how deep it is, sand with nothing under it comes down, bread has to be baked, and everything stacks to sixty-four. A tree comes down whole only for an axe enchanted for it, and villagers restock with the day rather than with the clock.

Added - the two playstyles

Lumina and normal play, one row apart. The top of the settings screen sets every rule at once. Lumina switches everything on. Normal play leaves out the stretched clock and the rules that want tending every day: torches burning down, campfires wanting wood, fields to water, frost and the cold for crops, rust, the milking pause, saplings that mind the climate, water freezing in the flask - and the bank rule below. Every switch can still be moved on its own; a playstyle is a starting point, not a lock.

The settings screen is eleven groups now, each folded away until opened, instead of one column of forty-nine switches. On a server, /luminamod playstyle says how far the world is from each playstyle, and lumina or normal sets it.

Added - melting and the casting mould

The Smeltery is where everything melts: a deepslate hearth with a fire-mouth, an open crucible on top that glows while it burns, and a smoking chimney. Its window has four input slots, fuel and an output, hoppers feed it, and melting is worth experience like any smelting. Nothing melts in the blast furnace.

Molten metal for all seven metals, iron among them. Four raw metal - loose in the four slots, or packed into a block of raw metal - melt into one glowing molten block, worth one metal block or four ingots. Crystals go on past the stone the same way: a crystalstone melts into its molten crystal.

The Casting Mould - five terracotta in a tray. An empty hand turns it between one cavity and four. Pour in a molten block, watch it glow and smoke for ten seconds, and lift out what it set into: a metal block or four ingots, a crystal block, a pure aurium block. Breaking the mould hands back whatever is in it, set or not.

Metal blocks can finally be made: four ingots to a block, and back.

Added - Felling

Felling, an enchantment for axes: without it no tree comes down whole. The enchanting table never offers it, so it takes nothing away from the enchantments that matter - it is found in chests and traded for by librarians, the way Mending is.

With it, the whole tree comes down: the canopy with the trunk, and every drop - logs, saplings, sticks, apples - piled where the trunk stood instead of left in the branches.

Only the leaves that were going to die anyway, though. In a wood the crowns touch, and a leaf the tree next door still holds up stays where it is - as do leaves somebody placed.

Added - the things Minecraft never made sense of

Water breaks a fall by how deep it is. A puddle one block deep used to be as good as a lake. Each block of water under you is worth about four blocks of falling; five blocks take any fall.

Sand with nothing under it comes down. Vanilla's sand only falls when something nudges it. Sand, gravel, concrete powder and anvils look down for themselves now - about once a minute, so a cliff gives way rather than collapsing at once.

Bread has to be baked. Three wheat make dough; dough becomes bread in a furnace, a smoker or on a campfire.

In Lumina, sleeping no longer clears the sky. A storm has as long left to run when you wake as it had when you lay down. Normal play keeps vanilla's bargain.

The rain keeps to the clock. A night in bed passes at whatever speed the clock is set to, and the weather passes with it - rain stops at the same hour whether you watched it or slept through it.

Everything stacks to sixty-four. Sixteen eggs, one bucket, one sign: old habits rather than rules. Anything that wears out keeps its stack of one, or two pickaxes would wear down together.

Added - money

Piece Worth
Splitter the everyday coin
Aurium 12 Splitter
Barren 20 Aurium
Stamped Aurium Block 4 Barren

Molten aurium in the ingot side of the mould casts four unstamped barren. The Minting Press stamps each into a barren - one per click, or keep the button held - and stamps crystal blocks into stamped crystal too. The Coin Scale changes coins up into as many larger ones as they make, the rest left in hand; an empty hand tips the beam, and then it gives change.

Only the bank mints (luminaOnlyBankMints), in Lumina: the press makes money for operators only - on a Lumina server, whoever runs the Aurium Bank. Crystals are stamped either way.

Changed

  • A tree only falls for an axe enchanted with Felling. Any axe used to do it, which made every ordinary chop a gamble. A plain axe now takes the log it was swung at.
  • Villagers restock with the day. Their cap of two restocks a day was the one limit vanilla measures in days rather than minutes - on a day four times as long, that was a quarter of the trading. It grows with the day now.
  • Body strength has a ceiling of its own. How much a body holds is no longer one number for everybody: /luminamod body strength max <value> moves it, it is saved with the body and survives a death. Rested, tired and worn out are shares of that ceiling, so a bigger reserve lasts longer rather than pushing tiredness out of reach.
  • The mod says where its settings screen comes from. All forty-nine switches sit on one screen, in eleven groups with both playstyles at the top - and nothing told you it was there, only that each one is a game rule. It is Mod Menu's button and Cloth Config's screen; Lumina suggests both now. Neither is required, and without them the game rules are still all there.
  • Vigour is called Body Strength, and it is on the body screen. The page behind B listed hunger, thirst, stink and warmth, and left out the one number that says how the body is doing overall. It has its own row now, in the same colours as the bar on the left.
  • A new world starts on normal play. An existing world keeps every rule it had. The one exception is the new bank rule, which starts off: run /luminamod playstyle lumina once in a Lumina world.
  • Iron takes four ingots to a block, and four raw iron to a block of raw iron, like every metal of Lumina. The anvil gets cheaper, and a raw iron block from an ore vein breaks into four raw iron.
  • Metal blocks drop themselves, and their slabs no longer give experience. They used to drop raw metal like ore - harmless while they could not be made.

Fixed

  • A body did not come back at half after dying. It kept the state it died in, because the half was being worked out on a blank body a moment before the real one was carried across the death. Two smaller faults were in the way too: an update could be thrown away and marked delivered at once, and with the immediate-respawn rule on the blow that killed you was still shared out over your zones afterwards.
  • The placement preview for a corner going into a slab drew the whole finished block as a haze over the slab already there. It shows only the quarter now, exactly where the click will put it.

Minecraft 1.21.1, Fabric. Everything is switchable while you play, and nothing has to be started over for any of it: forty-nine switches in eleven groups on the settings screen, or both playstyles in one row at the top of it. The screen comes with Mod Menu and Cloth Config, both optional - and underneath, every switch is a game rule saved with the world, which is how a server sets them and how each world keeps its own.
