JEI Translation Expansion

JEI Translation Expansion is an unofficial localization companion for Just Enough Items (JEI).

Its goal is to make JEI available in many more languages, including on older Minecraft versions, by adding missing translations and completing partially translated locales.

The project does not replace translations already provided by JEI. Existing upstream translations are preserved whenever possible, and this add-on only fills missing content unless a specific override has been explicitly reviewed and approved.

Historical JEI Localization

JEI Translation Expansion audits JEI versions chronologically.

The project starts with Minecraft 1.8 / JEI 2.15.0 and progressively covers later Minecraft and JEI generations.

As Minecraft added more supported languages over time, the translation scope of the project also expanded.

Depending on the Minecraft version, a language may be:

• fully translated by JEI itself;

• partially translated by JEI and completed by this add-on;

• fully provided by JEI Translation Expansion.

This approach preserves as much of the original JEI localization work as possible while significantly expanding language coverage.

AI-Assisted Translations

Some translations in JEI Translation Expansion are created or assisted using artificial intelligence.

AI-generated text is not automatically considered correct.

Translations are processed through automated validation and consistency checks, including:

• localization key coverage;

• placeholders;

• technical terms;

• fixed literals;

• .lang and .json syntax;

• semantic compatibility between Minecraft and JEI versions;

• detection of unsafe translation reuse between changed keys or meanings.

When a translation cannot be considered reliable enough, the project intentionally keeps the original English text instead of generating an uncertain or potentially misleading translation.

AI is therefore used as a translation assistance tool, while validation rules and project-specific safeguards are used to reduce errors.

Compatibility

JEI localization files changed significantly across Minecraft versions.

For this reason, each supported Minecraft version has its own dedicated JEI Translation Expansion JAR.

Always download the file that matches your exact Minecraft version.

Older JEI versions use .lang files, while newer generations use .json localization files. These formats are handled separately by the project.

Installation

1. Install the compatible version of Just Enough Items (JEI).

2. Download the JEI Translation Expansion file matching your Minecraft version.

3. Place the JAR in your Minecraft mods folder.

4. Launch Minecraft normally.

JEI Translation Expansion is an add-on for JEI and does not replace the original mod.
