Iron Age Architecture

Cob cottages, timber framed houses and upper floors that reach out over narrow streets.

Iron Age Architecture adds building materials and structural details for medieval villages, market towns and fantasy cities. Inspired by places such as Rye (East Sussex), it gives you more control over the walls, framing and rooflines that give these buildings their character.

Walls with character

Build with earthy cob or a pale limewashed finish, then choose how much timber you want to show.

The wattle-and-daub kit includes plain infill, substantial posts, horizontal rails, narrow studs, close studding and diagonal braces. You choose the spacing and pattern, whether you’re building a modest cottage or a richly framed townhouse.

Matching timbers join around corners and through intersections. All six vanilla wood types are available, so you can mix buildings with dark, weathered frames and lighter timber.

Cob also comes in full blocks, slabs and stairs.

Upper floors that overhang the street

Projecting upper storeys are one of the most distinctive features of old timber-framed towns, these jetties are a central part of the building kit.

Half depth walls, short returns and matching corner posts let you move a façade out by half a block or a whole block, repeat the step on another storey to create the increasingly narrow streets of a fantasy city, the extra space is usable inside too.

Timber floors finish the projection with floorboards, exposed joists and continuous edge beams underneath, optional support brackets add detail beneath selected floor edges, and matching corner pieces let the overhang continue around the side of a building.

Thatch and slate roofs

Choose warm thatch for a cottage or blue-grey slate for a townhouse.

Smooth roof slopes connect into corners automatically, with separate ridge caps to finish the roofline. Combine them with the wall kit and vanilla materials to build a village with varied shapes and heights.

Built for survival

Everything is crafted from vanilla ingredients, there are no new ores to find or extra world generation requirements before you can start building.

The main content families can be enabled or disabled in the configuration.

Part of the Iron Age series

Iron Age Architecture focuses on the permanent parts of your buildings: walls, floors, roofs and structural timber.

It works independently of Iron Age Furniture, and the two can be used together to build and furnish your village.

First alpha

This first alpha focuses on the cottage and timber-framed building kit, feedback on the appearance, crafting and placement of the pieces is welcome, especially around corners and overhanging floors.
