InSight Chests — Changelog

Version 1.0.3

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed Opening Adjacent Containers (Barrels, Mod Blocks) Targeting Nearby Chests When a chest was placed next to another storage block (such as a vanilla Barrel, or containers from other mods), right-clicking that block would cause the interface to open and the camera to turn toward the neighboring chest, displaying the barrel's contents inside the chest. This has been completely eliminated at the root: the mod now precisely tracks your actual click on the client side. If you click a barrel, crafting block, machine, or modded container, InSight Chests will never intercept it or scan neighboring blocks, leaving the default interface and camera untouched.

  • Fixed Handheld Container Edge Cases (Backpacks, Pouches) Opening a portable container item from your hand while your crosshair happened to look at a chest in the world will no longer mistakenly activate the 3D chest camera or cavity.

Performance Improvements

  • Better Rendering Resource Optimization Refined how 3D item models are prepared and drawn during chest inspection. Previous versions could produce excessive GPU buffer flushes per frame under heavy shaderpacks (Iris, Oculus, BSL, Complementary), causing framerate dips when staring into fully packed chests. The rendering pipeline and container sync have been optimized to significantly reduce CPU churn and draw call overhead.

New Features & Config Options

  • enableGlobalItemCap (Default: false) — Smart Global Item Cap An optional, intelligent balancer designed for players using heavy shaders or mid/low-tier GPUs.

    • When false (default): Every stack renders up to representationCap or blockRepresentationCap models regardless of how full the chest is (e.g. 27 full stacks of blocks = 81 items in a single chest, or 162 items in a double chest).
    • When true: The mod dynamically balances item representations so the total items inside the chest target singleChestGlobalCap or doubleChestGlobalCap.
    • Important Visual Guarantee: This is a smart visual balancer, not an aggressive cull. Every non-empty slot is always guaranteed at least 1 visual item model so your items never disappear or look missing. Small chests (1–3 stacks) still render full piles (3–5 items per stack), while completely packed chests stay looking overflowing to the brim without overwhelming your GPU.
  • singleChestGlobalCap (Default: 32, Range: 27 to 128) The ceiling for total 3D items rendered in a single chest (27 slots) when enableGlobalItemCap is active. The minimum is 27 so that a full 27-slot chest is guaranteed at least 1 item model per slot, while allowing enough extra duplicate models (32+) for a dense, overflowing pile.

  • doubleChestGlobalCap (Default: 64, Range: 54 to 256) The ceiling for total 3D items rendered in a double chest (54 slots) when enableGlobalItemCap is active. The minimum is 54 so that a full 54-slot chest is guaranteed at least 1 item model per slot across both chest halves.

Changelog Summary

  • Fixed neighboring containers (Barrels, mod blocks) opening the chest next to them
  • Fixed handheld items (backpacks) triggering nearby world chests
  • Optimized rendering resource usage and reduced draw call overhead under shaders
  • Added Smart Global Item Cap config (enableGlobalItemCap, singleChestGlobalCap, doubleChestGlobalCap)
