Description

๐ŸŒ™ Howling Moon Expanded

The moon is calling again. Awaken the wolf within and write your own legend.

Howling Moon Expanded is an unofficial continuation of Howling Moon, created to preserve the adventure of the original mod and bring new possibilities to Minecraft 1.12.2 with Forge.

Become a werewolf, develop your powers, overcome the trials along your path, and stay alert: hunters are still out there, and silver remains a threat.

This edition builds on the original mod with more configuration options, server tools, new survival rules, and bug fixes. Enjoy the classic experience or shape it to suit your world and your friends.

๐Ÿบ Your wolf, your rules

Adjust the strength of stats, the maximum level, experience gains, and progression points. Configure abilities, their cooldowns, and their available effects.

Does a stat not fit your adventure? Disable it: its bar will turn red, it will stop accepting new points, and its point-based bonuses will no longer apply.

You can also customize werewolf and hunter spawning, their attributes, silver and flower generation, hunter lodges, and selected recipes.

๐Ÿ‘‘ One Alpha for your pack

The optional Single Alpha system allows only one player in the server's world to access Beast form. It is designed for stories, rivalries, and roleplay servers.

  • The first eligible player who has completed the ritual and transforms into Beast form claims the vacant title.
  • Logging out preserves the title; dying releases it.
  • An administrator or the current Alpha can transfer it with /werewolf alpha PlayerName.
  • The former Alpha loses access to Beast form and the right to transfer the title as Alpha.
  • Players who complete the ritual but are blocked by another Alpha receive two stat points, once per player. Former Alphas also receive this compensation if they have not already claimed it.

Repeating rituals or passing the title back and forth will not grant these points again. This system is disabled by default.

๐Ÿฅฉ A beast's appetite

Food can become part of your life as a werewolf:

  • In human form: registered raw and rotten meat does not add the Hunger effect when eaten.
  • While transformed: registered raw meat provides half the hunger restoration and saturation of its cooked equivalent.
  • Cooked meat: keeps its original nutrition and can grant configurable regeneration while you are transformed.
  • Vegetables and bread: can provide less nourishment to a transformed wolf.
  • Sweet foods: can provide less nourishment and cause Hunger and Poison. Placed vanilla cake is supported too.

These rules can be enabled or disabled. Separate food lists, raw-to-cooked pairs, and fallback nutrition values let you customize foods without a cooked equivalent, such as rotten flesh. You can add item IDs from other mods and select specific item variants.

โš”๏ธ Silver is dangerous to the touch

Werewolf players can take damage and suffer Silver Poison when holding silver items or wearing recognized silver armor, even in human form. Both hands and equipped armor are checked; storing these items elsewhere in your inventory does not trigger contact damage.

Attacking a mob or player wearing silver armor with an empty main hand can also poison the werewolf attacker for a configurable duration.

Newly spawned hunters can receive configurable armor, including metallic silver armor from Ice and Fire. Set the chance and add armor from other mods for each equipment slot. Additional hunter equipment is disabled by default.

๐Ÿงฉ Integrations and customization

  • Ice and Fire: recognition of metallic silver weapons, tools, and armor. Dragon flesh retains its special effects.
  • Mystical World: recognition of silver items and registered foods, including venison and squid.
  • Tinkers' Construct: bacon and jerky recognized by their item variants, without treating slime variants of the same item as meat.
  • Other mods: configurable ID lists to extend silver recognition, food rules, and hunter equipment.

These integrations are optional. Material-based silver detection for Tinkers' Construct tools and Construct's Armory armor is not included.

๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Tools for your server

Administrators can grant or remove points, change levels, apply infection immunity, add or remove lycanthropy, and reset stats, abilities, or progression.

For a tougher adventure, optional hardcore rules can remove stat points on death or reset mod progression while preserving lycanthropy. Hardcore is disabled by default.

The expanded configuration is organized into sections. Updates add new options while preserving existing values, and the server controls shared gameplay rules in multiplayer.

๐Ÿ’™ A project made with love

Howling Moon was created by Razmenwolf. The original concept, content, and identity belong to their respective creators. Expanded builds on that work and preserves its credits.

Howling Moon is my favorite mod. I tried to contact its creator, but I was unable to get in touch. I did not want this project to fade away, so I decided to update it and expand its possibilities so we could keep enjoying it in Minecraft 1.12.2.

This is a fan project, not an official update or an authorized collaboration with the original creator. I have not received the creator's permission. If Razmenwolf contacts me and asks for this publication to be removed, I will take it down and respect that decision.

My goal is to care for a mod that means a great deal to me and share that enthusiasm with others who love it too.

Please visit and support the original Howling Moon. Without its creator, this adventure would not exist.

Installation and feedback

  • Requires Minecraft 1.12.2 with Forge.
  • Install the same version on the server and all clients.
  • Expanded replaces the original JAR: do not install both together.
  • Keep your configuration when updating, and restart after editing it.

The current version has been tested in a development playthrough and has additional automated checks. Every modpack is different: if you encounter a problem, please share the crash report, mod version, and what you were doing so we can investigate.

A new story awaits beneath the moon. What kind of wolf will you become?
