Hotbar Animation by November_Fir

An Epic Fight add-on that plays any of your weapon's attack animations directly with the number keys 1-9, built for machinima and animation recording rather than combat.

Hotbar Animation

Press 1–9 to play any attack animation of your current weapon on demand — an Epic Fight add-on built for animation filming, screenshots and weapon showcases.

Important — what this mod is for: this add-on is designed for machinima, animation recording, screenshots and showing off weapon animations, not for actual combat. It hands you direct, on-demand control over animation playback, which deliberately bypasses Epic Fight's normal combo flow, hit timing and stamina economy. If you install it expecting a combat upgrade, you will not get one — use it to shoot scenes, and fight with the vanilla Epic Fight moveset instead.

Requirements

How it works

The mod adds one passive skill, Hotbar Animation. Learn it in Epic Fight like any other skill (it needs 10 experience levels), then equip the weapon whose animations you want to use.

Pressing 1 through 9 plays that numbered entry from your weapon's attack animation list, immediately and on its own — no need to start a combo, land a hit, or work through the previous steps of the chain. You can fire the 5th swing of a combo by itself, replay a single swing as many times as you like, or cut straight to a finisher.

Your item selection is unaffected: the hotbar slot you had selected is restored right after the key press, so you never actually switch items.

What you get while filming

  • On-screen animation list — while the skill is active, the left side of the screen lists every number key and the animation it will play (for example 3 -> greatsword_combo3). The one currently playing is highlighted in green, so you always know which shot you are rolling.
  • Animations follow where you look — the movement baked into an attack animation is redirected along your line of sight instead of the original fixed direction. Point the camera where you want the character to travel and the animation carries them there, which makes it far easier to frame a shot.
  • Keep moving mid-animation — WASD still steers your character while an animation plays, at reduced speed during movement-locked moments, so you can reposition a step without dropping the shot.
  • Repeatable takes — because playback is not tied to landing hits, a miss does not change the outcome. Every take looks the same, which is exactly what you want when you are recording multiple angles of the same move.
  • Works with any Epic Fight weapon — every weapon capability exposes its own animation list, so the nine keys adapt to whatever you are holding, including weapons added by other Epic Fight add-ons.

Stamina and the game rule

By default the skill spends stamina, so it still interacts with Epic Fight's resources. Two things soften that for production work:

  • Creative mode costs nothing — switch to creative and animations are free, which is usually what you want while filming.
  • Game rule doHotbarAnimationCostStamina (default true) — set it to false with /gamerule doHotbarAnimationCostStamina false and stamina is never consumed in that world.

When the cost is on, consecutive plays cost progressively more stamina, and the penalty decays back to normal while you are not performing an animation.

Installation

  1. Install Forge for 1.20.1 and Epic Fight 20.9.6 or newer.
  2. Drop this mod's jar into the mods folder on both client and server.
  3. In game, learn the Hotbar Animation passive skill (10 levels), hold a weapon, and press 1–9.
  4. For a clean recording session: switch to creative mode, or run /gamerule doHotbarAnimationCostStamina false.

Limitations

  • Version 1.0.0 — a single-feature release. There is no configuration GUI, no key remapping and no per-weapon options yet.
  • Keys with no animation behind them do nothing: if your weapon only has four attack animations, only 1–4 respond.
  • Some animation entries are designed to be chained; playing them out of order can look different from an in-combo performance.

  1. 安装 1.20.1 的 Forge 与 Epic Fight 20.9.6 及以上版本;
  2. 把本模组放入客户端与服务端的 mods 文件夹;
  3. 游戏内学习被动技能快捷栏动画(10 级),手持武器后按 1–9 即可;
