Gameplay Changes

  • Added the Guitar, a playable instrument with 12 distinct chord qualities (major 6/9, major 9, major 7, major, dominant 7, suspended 4, minor 7, minor 9, minor, minor 7♭5, diminished 7, altered dominant), selected by tilting your look angle across the full range from straight up (brightest chord) to straight down (darkest). It doesn't stack, and sits in the vanilla Tools & Utilities creative tab, right after the Saddle.
  • Playing rings a chord out to its full natural length, however long you hold the button, and it never gets cut off early. Holding can't spam-retrigger it, but letting go lets you play again right away — no cooldown on the base instrument.
  • Playing animates both arms instead of just holding the item still: the strumming arm swings with a plucked, decaying motion, and the other arm's hand visibly moves to a different spot on the neck as you tilt your look angle to change chords. Fully resource-pack customizable per instrument.
  • Playing near a lit campfire sounds different (a fainter echo); playing near amethyst pitches the chord up and layers a loud, bright chime over it; playing through wool muffles the volume; playing underground adds a cave echo.
  • Added a config file (groovy-common.toml) covering every enchantment balance number above — Resonance's cooldown/knockback/damage/range, Harmony's duration/cooldown/regen/area, Rhythm's repeat rate, and the amethyst/wool proximity range and pitch boost — so server owners can retune the mod without a datapack or a rebuild.
  • Nearby Allays and parrots dance for a few seconds whenever you play, using their own normal jukebox-dancing behavior.
  • Added two advancements: Get Into the Groove (play the guitar for the first time) and Campfire Song (play it by a lit campfire).
  • The guitar's chord set, sounds, note-particle color, and arm poses are fully datapack/resourcepack-driven — a datapack can add an entirely new instrument (its own chords, sounds, and Blockbench-authored poses) with zero Java.
  • Added three enchantments for the guitar (and any future instrument), obtainable via enchanting table, anvil books, and librarian trades:
    • Resonance (I-III): every play fires a piercing, no-gravity sonic-wave projectile in the direction you're looking, drawn as a single wave sprite that rotates to visibly point the way it's flying and disappears exactly at the edge of its real hit range. Each level increases its range (roughly 2.7/5.3/8 blocks, always the same speed), its knockback, and its damage (+1 per level, up to 3). It pierces through every enemy it hits on the way (each one only once) rather than stopping at the first, always breaks a blocked shield, and is nullified outright by wool. Firing puts the guitar on a 5/10/15 second cooldown.
    • Harmony (I-II): playing plants a glowing, slowly-spinning rune on the ground where you're standing (a 4x4 area) that fades in and lasts 10 seconds. Anyone (allies included) who steps inside is granted Regeneration I/II for 15 seconds. 30 second cooldown.
    • Rhythm: lets you hold the play button to keep re-triggering every half-second instead of waiting for the chord to finish ringing, so Resonance/Harmony fire again the moment their own cooldown clears, without needing to release and re-press.
    • Resonance and Harmony are mutually exclusive — a guitar can only ever have one of the two — though Rhythm can join either.
    • A guitar on cooldown from either enchantment can't be played at all until it clears, shown via the usual swipe-overlay cooldown indicator, scoped to that specific guitar — a second, unenchanted guitar you're also carrying is never affected.
    • The guitar's tooltip lists its enchantments before the "When in Main Hand:" text (matching vanilla tools), and shows a blue line under that for each enchantment present — Resonance: "+Can Play Weaponized Sound", Harmony: "+Can Play Healing Music", Rhythm: "+Can Play Continuously". Descriptions also integrate with the Enchantment Descriptions mod, if installed.
