REQUIRES MILKYWAYLIB
Groovy is a data-driven, vanilla style instrument creation mod. The base mod ships one instrument, a fully playable guitar with 12 real chords, and three enchantments built for anyone who's ever wanted to live out their bard-class fantasy in Minecraft: fire weaponized chords at your enemies, or drop a healing rune for your party, with more to come!
The guitar is just a demo, the mod works as an engine for you to add any instrument you can imagine using simple datapack and resource pack combinations, no Java required.
Wanna add your own? Check out the Example Pack!

How it works
- Play with your look angle. Look straight up for the highest chord, straight down for the lowest. Hold the use button and it rings out to its natural length; let go and you can play again right away, or spam to annoy your friends.
- Real-Time World Interaction. Being near amethyst adds a resonant chime, wool will muffle your music, and being underground adds a subtle cave echo. Allays and parrots nearby pick up the beat and dance along.
- Enchanting Melodies. Resonance, Harmony, and Rhythm turn an ordinary instrument into a powerful utility, weather its chords that knockback and disable enemy shields, a healing zone, or allowing you to auto-play periodically. All accessible via enchanting table.
- Cooldowns stay on the guitar, not the player. Trigger an enchant and only that guitar goes on cooldown, allowing you to (if you wanted) double pump with your guitar.

What's in the mod
- A Data-Driven Instrument Engine: As I said, the guitar is just the demo. Every instrument runs on an open registry, meaning you can add your own via datapacks and resource packs without needing to know Java at all. New instruments instantly inherit the same animations, acoustics, and enchantment support, and you can reskin or repose them anytime with your own custom definitions.
- The (Demo) 12-Chord Acoustic Guitar: Demo Instrument that features 12 distinct chords (from bright major 9ths to altered dominants) mapped to your pitch: look up for bright chords, look down for moody ones.
- Full Two-Armed Animations: Your player actually holds/plays instruments. One hand strums naturally while the fretting hand slides along the neck as you change chords. Built entirely in Blockbench, so re-animating it with a resource pack is painless.
Three Enchantments (the bard-class part):
Resonance (I–III): Every play fires a piercing, no-gravity wave of pure music in the direction you're looking. Each level flies further, knocks back harder, and adds +1 damage (up to 3). It punches through every enemy in its path instead of stopping at the first, breaks a blocked shield every time, and gets swallowed outright by wool, just like vanilla vibrations.
Harmony (I–II): Play music so soothing you summon a glowing, slowly-spinning rune on the ground where you're standing. Entities that Step inside get Regeneration (I-II) for 15s.
Rhythm: Hold the play button and it keeps periodically re-triggering instead of waiting for the chord to finish ringing, useful for making music with your friends.
Resonance and Harmony are mutually exclusive, so pick one. All three work on any Groovy-built instrument.
As well as:
- Two Advancements: Get Into the Groove for your first chord, and Campfire Song for playing by a lit campfire.
- Enchantment Descriptions Compat: Resonance, Harmony, and Rhythm show clear descriptions when Enchantment Descriptions is installed.

Requirements
- Minecraft 1.21.1
