Description

Footprints in soft ground. You press boot prints into snow, sand, mud, gravel and dirt as you walk - left, right, turned the way you were heading - and they fade out after a while. Animals and monsters walking near you leave their own smaller paw prints.
What you'll see
- Boot prints - your own trail, stride-spaced and mirrored left and right.
- Paw prints - every animal and monster nearby leaves its own smaller pads.
- Step puffs - each step kicks up a small puff tinted to the ground: white off snow, tan off sand, dark off mud.

How it behaves
- Prints sit on top of snow layers rather than inside them.
- Each surface presses its own shade - bluish in snow, red in red sand, dark in mud.
- Lifetime is configurable, the oldest prints go first once the budget fills, and sneaking leaves nothing by default.
Compatibility
Client-side, no mixins and no GLSL. Prints are flat decals on a vanilla render type and the puffs are ordinary particles, so it works under Sodium and Iris shaderpacks.
Configuration
Sodium's video settings has a Footfall page - who leaves prints, lifetime, budget, opacity, quiet sneaking and step puffs. Also in config/footfall.json.
Client-side, NeoForge 1.21.1, JDK 21. No server install needed. MIT licensed. Free to use in modpacks.
