Description

Teams: four survivors on a rooftop outlined in their team colour, name tags above each

Image disclaimer: The images on this page are AI-generated artistic renditions of features in the mod, not in-game screenshots. In-game visuals use Minecraft's own block art style and will look different.

Teams you form face to face. Teammates you can always find. A fall that is not the end.

Teams adds named player teams to a survival server with no menus to dig through: sneak and right-click a player with an empty hand and the invite is made. Teammates glow in the team colour through walls, their name tags carry the team name and show at any distance, they appear on Xaero's minimap and world map, they cannot hurt each other, and a corner HUD points you to each of them. When lethal damage lands, a teammate on your team is knocked down instead of killed, and a friend can pick them back up.

It comes with:

  • In-person invites: sneak and right-click a player; they click you back to accept ๐Ÿค
  • A team name under every member's name tag, in the team colour, for everyone nearby ๐Ÿท
  • Teammates that glow through walls with long-range name tags, plus a roster HUD with direction, distance and height ๐Ÿ‘
  • Xaero's Minimap and World Map tracking for teammates at any distance, in any dimension ๐Ÿ—บ
  • No friendly fire (configurable) and a kills and deaths board by team ๐Ÿ“Š
  • Knockdown and revive: a bleed-out timer, a five-second teammate revive, a self-revive roll and a downed menu ๐Ÿฉน
  • Forge-only, no required dependencies, 18 automated game tests ๐Ÿงช

๐Ÿค Form a team in person

Two survivors meet face to face, one reaching out an empty hand as a glowing flag seals the pact

No team yet? Sneak and right-click another player with an empty hand and a Name your team screen opens; the invite goes out the moment the team exists. Already on a team? That same click is the invite. The other player accepts by clicking you back, pressing the [Accept] button in chat, or typing /teams accept. Invites lapse after a minute and a team holds eight players. Leaders can kick, transfer, rename, recolour or disband; the last member out dissolves the team. Remote invites by command are for operators unless the server allows them.

๐Ÿ‘ Never lose your teammates

Teammates seen as glowing silhouettes through walls, with a minimap and a roster panel on the HUD

Membership is mirrored into a vanilla scoreboard team, which every client already receives, so none of this needs its own sync:

  • Every player on a team wears โš‘ <team name> under their name tag in the team colour, visible to anyone nearby.
  • Your own teammates glow in the team colour through walls, and their name tags grow with distance, show through walls and ignore the usual 64-block cutoff.
  • With Xaero's Minimap on the server, teammates are tracked on the minimap and the world map at any distance and in any dimension, through Xaero's own player-tracker hook.
  • A corner roster HUD lists each teammate with an arrow, the distance and the height difference, with a toggle key.
  • Teammates cannot hurt each other (a server config).

๐Ÿฉน Knocked down, not out

A downed survivor crawls under a fading bleed-out bar while a teammate kneels to revive them and another holds off infected

Lethal damage knocks you down instead of killing you. You crawl, you cannot attack, build, use items or heal, and you have five hearts of downed health: lose those and it is a real death. A bleed-out timer runs: 60 seconds the first time, 45 the second, 30 every time after, until you die and the count resets.

  • Revive: a teammate holds use on you for five seconds. Taking damage does not break it; letting go or walking away does. You get up with three hearts, and your timer waits while they work.
  • On your own: when the timer runs out you roll a 10 to 55% chance to get back up with three hearts.
  • A downed menu opens when you go down, with the countdown, the revive progress and a Give up button; press G to bring it back.
  • Bleeding out credits whoever knocked you down on the kills board. /kill and the void still kill outright, creative and spectator players are never knocked down, and logging out while down saves the state for your next login.

Solo players are knocked down too, so they still get the roll; a server can limit knockdown to team members.

๐Ÿ“Š The board

Survivors look up at a glowing scoreboard listing two teams and their tallies

Every death is booked as PvP (another player dealt the blow, and they get the kill) or world (mobs, falls, lava, void, self-kills). The victim and killer see a chat tally, /teams board lists the ledger grouped by team with the best team first and a No team group for everyone else, and /teams stats [player] gives one line.

๐Ÿ›  Commands and config

  • /teams (alias /fokteam): create, accept, decline, leave, kick, transfer, rename, color, disband, info, list, board, stats, and invite for operators. Vanilla keeps /team.
  • world/serverconfig/fok_teams-server.toml: member cap, invite timeout, whether sneaking is required, who may invite by command, friendly fire, sync rate, and the whole [knockdown] section (enable, team-only, the three timer lengths, self-revive odds, downed and revive health, revive time and range, crawl speed).
  • config/fok_teams-client.toml: the name-tag line, teammate tag boost and range, glow, the HUD and its corner.

โœ… Requirements

  • Minecraft 1.20.1 with Forge 47 or newer. No required dependencies.
  • Optional: Xaero's Minimap 26.0.0 or newer on the server, for the map markers.
  • Install on both the client and the server; the versions must match.

Part of Federation Of Kaos

Teams is the co-op glue of the Federation Of Kaos modpack, a post-apocalypse survival shooter where you take bounty contracts and missions together against an outbreak that hears you coming: find your squad through the ruins, hold your fire on them, and pick them up when they go down. It depends on nothing else in the pack and works in any Forge 1.20.1 server. You are welcome to include it in your modpack.
