Description

A survivor's rooftop camp at dusk: a stew pot over a campfire, a drying rack of jerky, a rain barrel and a sleeping bag above a ruined city

Food that spoils. Meals that keep you going. A camp you carry.

Survival Protocol makes staying fed part of surviving again. Every food in your game goes stale and spoils at its own pace, from every mod you have installed. Cook at base, dry and seal your food for the road, and set up camp wherever the night catches you, if you can handle what a fire in the dark brings in.

It comes with:

  • Spoilage for every food, vanilla and modded: raw meat lasts days, a sealed can lasts months 🥩
  • Stale and spoiling stages that feed you less and can make you sick, shown on the item 🟢🟡🔴
  • Fridges and freezers slow it down, desert heat speeds it up ❄️🔥
  • Cooking and preserving: a Stew Pot, a Drying Rack, jerky, dried fruit, skewers and canning 🍲
  • Field Rations you can eat in under a second when there's no time to stop ⏱
  • A camp kit: Sleeping Bag, Insulated Sleeping Bag, Rain Collector, Can Alarm and Field Campfire ⛺
  • Variety: eat the same thing over and over and it feeds you less 🍎
  • A Quartermaster Crate that sells field supplies for Kaos Credits, and Well Fed for teammates who share a pot 🤝

🕒 Every food spoils

A ruined kitchen counter with fresh steak and apples, stale bread and mouldy food, beside an open fridge breathing cold mist

Each food is stamped with the day it was made, and its freshness shows on the item. Fresh food feeds you fully. Stale food feeds you less. Spoiling food might leave you with Hunger. Spoiled meat turns into Rotten Flesh and everything else into Spoiled Food, which you can compost.

  • Raw meat and fish: about 3 days
  • Cooked meals and stews: about 5 days
  • Fruit and vegetables: about 6 days
  • Bread and baking: about 8 days
  • Jerky and dried fruit: about a month
  • Rations, honey and chocolate: about two months
  • Sealed cans: about four months

Carry food through a desert and it goes off faster; carry it through snow and it keeps longer. A fridge slows it to a quarter, a freezer to a tenth.

It works with food from any mod, including ones you add later: raw meat spoils like raw meat, and a bowl of anything counts as a cooked meal. Food you find in old city chests has already been sitting there a while, but a sealed can is always a good find. Stacks of the same food merge to the older day, and nothing ticks your chests in the background, so a full larder costs the server nothing extra.

🍲 Cook it. Dry it. Seal it.

A sunny yard with a drying rack of jerky and apple rings, a stew pot bubbling on a campfire, bowls and sealed cans

  • Stew Pot: sits on a campfire and cooks four servings at once for the whole camp. Bone Broth, Hunter's Stew, Survivor's Porridge and Infected-Zone Chili. Stews keep you warm, and broth quenches your thirst too.
  • Drying Rack: no fuel, just sun and dry weather. Turns raw meat into Jerky and fruit into Dried Fruit that keep for a month. Rain pauses it.
  • Canning: seal any stew into an empty can with an iron nugget and carry your own cooking on the longest runs.
  • Skewers: two cooked meats on a stick, one good meal that hands the stick back.
  • Field Rations: bread, cooked meat and dried fruit make two. A steak's worth, eaten in under a second, good for two months.
  • Instant Coffee: a short burst of speed when you need to move, found in the world.
  • Quartermaster Crate: a supply crate that sells rations, jerky, coffee, cans and seed packages for Kaos Credits. Buy only.
  • Well Fed: teammates who take bowls from the same Stew Pot within a minute get hungry more slowly for ten minutes.

⛺ A camp you carry

A night camp in a snowy forest: a sleeping bag by a small campfire, a rain barrel and a line of tin cans strung between trees

Everything in the kit works where you put it down, and putting it down outside costs something.

  • Sleeping Bag: skips the night anywhere you can lay it down, and never moves your respawn.
  • Insulated Sleeping Bag: a wool-lined bag that keeps the cold off while you sleep.
  • Rain Collector: fills with water when it rains. Drinking water in a city with no river (purify it first).
  • Can Alarm: string and two empty cans that rattle when anything crosses the line. You hear it, and so does anything nearby.
  • Field Campfire: burns for ten minutes, cooks, and heats the Stew Pot. Its light can draw attention.

♻ Nothing goes to waste

An underground larder stocked with sealed cans, jerky, dried fruit, rations, a fridge and a freezer

  • Empty cans become new Canned Stew, or smelt back into iron.
  • Spoiled meat becomes Rotten Flesh for leather; other spoiled food composts.
  • The bones the night leaves on your doorstep become Bone Broth.

Works with

Every integration is optional. Legendary Survival Overhaul: thirst and warmth from broths and stews. Refurbished Furniture and Survival Instinct: their fridges keep food fresh longer, and Survival Instinct's cans feed the canning loop. Federation Of Kaos mods: a cooking pot or a rattling can alarm draws Outbreak Protocol's infected, and during a Carrion round crops can wither; teammates who share a pot eat better together; the Quartermaster takes Kaos Credits; Bone Broth settles a Kaos Missions survivor's cough; Carry Pack's Ration Pouch eats your rations for you; and a Pocket Domain campsite comes with a Stew Pot and a Drying Rack.

Requirements

Minecraft 1.20.1 with Forge. No other mods required.

Part of Federation Of Kaos, a post-collapse modpack built around ten in-house mods. Each one works on its own and pulls its weight in the pack.
