What's new
Changelog
v1.0.0-beta.1
First beta of 1.0 for NeoForge 1.21.1, NeoForge 26.1 (Minecraft 26.1 to 26.1.2), NeoForge 26.2 and Forge 1.20.1. Adds video and audio in quests, data-driven worlds, start conditions, new task and reward types, much easier scene building and many FTB Quests import fixes.
Quests
- Item tasks and the item conditions take a
filter, written like an FTB Filter System smart filter:or(item_tag(c:ingots/iron) mod(create)), withand,or,not,only_one,item,item_tag,mod,block,component(nbton 1.20.1),durability,food_value,stack_sizeandmax_stack_size. The task line describes the filter and its icon cycles through matching items. The editor has a Filter field with a syntax tooltip that marks text that does not parse./eq validatechecks the item and tag ids inside a filter./eq import ftbquestskeeps smart filters instead of replacing the task with a checkmark, except thecustomfilter, which runs scripts in FTB Filter System - Quest positions are decimal, in map cells, the same units as FTB Quests. Old files with whole numbers load unchanged and whole positions still save as whole numbers. The map's right click menu in edit mode has a Snap submenu with Cell, Half, Quarter and Free, saved with the client settings. Nodes move in that step while you drag, and Shift while dragging places a quest freely. The importer copies FTB Quests positions as they are instead of stretching a chapter to whole cells, so imported chapters line up like the original. A quest without an icon takes its first task's own icon on import
- Resize handles: a selected decoration shows eight handles, corners resize both ways and edges one way, Ctrl keeps the aspect ratio and Shift gives free sizes. A selected quest shows corner handles that change its size around its center. Decorations can be locked from their right click menu (
lockedin the file): a locked decoration cannot be dragged, resized or box selected and shows a small lock in edit mode - Stat tasks and the stat condition take a
unit: ticks, seconds, minutes, hours, days or Minecraft days.minis written in that unit and may have decimals, and the task text and HUD show the same unit - Right click a chapter folder in edit mode for Edit (title, icon from the picker, order), New chapter in folder, Move up, Move down and Remove folder
- The Minecraft theme is the default. The Modern theme is now called Ember (
ember), and client settings or styles that still saymodernload as Ember. The LDLib Minecraft theme is gone, settings that used it fall back to Minecraft - Theme editing: with the theme editor open, inspecting an element names the palette tokens behind its background, border and text, and clicking one jumps to it. Token names say which part of the screen they color and the list is grouped by area. Both color pickers have Cancel, and Escape cancels too. The Minecraft theme exposes the same tokens as Ember
- Chapters have
visibility:auto(the default) hides a chapter while none of its quests are visible, like FTB Quests, and a chapter with no quests stays visible.hiddenkeeps a chapter out of the list until a reward, a script or a command shows it, andvisiblealways shows it. New reward typechapterwithshoworhide, commands/eq chapter show|hide|list, and KubeJSshowChapter, hideChapterandisChapterHidden. A hidden chapter's quests are withheld like hidden quests - Every shipped screen template (board, ledger, starchart, tracker) has the Edit button, and the editor keybind toggles edit mode on any template. Hover tooltips stay out of the way while the theme inspector is on
- Buttons, decoration clicks and locate blocks take optional
cost(items with data, xp levels or points),cooldownper player that survives relogging, uses, arequirecondition, aconfirmdialog and apermissionlevel for commands. The row shows the cost and the remaining cooldown and the server enforces every check - Fail triggers can be grouped with
anyandall, nested as deep as needed.allfires once every trigger in it has fired since the quest was last accepted or reset. Quests takecomplete:alltasks (default),anyone task, ormintasks, and the panel shows how many tasks count - Button rows in quest descriptions wrap to the panel, and each gated button shows its own cost and cooldown beneath it
- Decorations take
rotationin degrees. A selected decoration has a rotate handle above it that turns in 15 degree steps, Shift for free rotation. The FTB Quests importer copies image rotation - Right click a chapter or a quest in edit mode for a Visibility submenu. Chapters pick When it has visible quests, Always or Until revealed. Quests pick Always shown, Details hidden while locked or Hidden until unlocked, and toggle Invisible until complete, Hide text until complete and Hide lock icon. Every choice has a short description on hover and applies to the whole selection
- Images can show an item instead of a texture: pick Item under Source in the image form and choose it in the item picker, where the Data box adds enchantments, potion contents or modded data with glint. A texture path that points at an item's texture gets a Use as item button
- Scenes are much easier to build. A block picker with search, tags, block state dropdowns and Pick from world replaces typed block ids in scenes, the use on block task and the standing on condition. The scene form's Edit blocks opens a blocks editor: capture a region from the world with Corner 1 and Corner 2 or
/eq scene capture x1 y1 z1 x2 y2 z2(up to 32 blocks per side), keep a palette of blocks, and paint in the preview with left click to place against a face and right click to remove. The scene wand and the corner buttons share one selection, drawn in the world with highlighted corners and its size in the action bar, red when it is too large - Scenes take entities in the blocks editor. Add entity opens the entity picker, then a click in the preview places it on the face you point at, snapped to half blocks or free with Shift. Placed entities can be moved, turned in 45 degree steps, edited (id, NBT, yaw, pose) and removed. Capture copies the mobs inside the box with their names, colors and gear, with an Include entities toggle. Entities stay out of the materials list and the in-world preview
- The entity picker has Pick from world: it takes the entity you look at up to 32 blocks away, and fills its look NBT in entity content and scenes
/eq lang extractmoves every literal quest text into lang files with stable keys, optionally one file per chapter, like FTB Quests Lang Splitter and Localizer./eq lang export <locale>writes a starting file for another language,/eq lang status <locale>counts missing and stale keys,/eq lang inlineputs the text back, and/eq import ftbquests ... extractextracts right after an import- Dependency lines per quest:
lines_inandlines_outtakealways,hoverornever, with chapter and book defaults and a Lines submenu on right click. The client line setting gainshover. FTB Questshide_dependency_linesandhide_dependent_linesimport ashover. Themes takeline_requires,line_required_for,line_widthandline_speed - Quest tooltips can be Simple (title and status) or Advanced in the settings, and holding Shift shows the other one
- Quest descriptions can have pages: a divider with style
pagesplits the description, and the quest panel shows Previous, Page N of M and Next, starting at page 1 for every quest. Image decorations takecolorandopacityas a tint - Quests with Details hidden while locked take an
unknownblock: a cryptic title shown wherever the quest is unknown, and optional cryptic text the player can open in a sealed panel with no tasks, rewards or dependencies. The server still holds back the real text. The quest editor has a While unknown section for both - Theme editor: each color row has a reset button that restores the value from the theme it was made from
- New Deepslate theme, a dark mode of the Minecraft theme
- Built-in theme names end in "(Embers Questing | Theme)" so they stand out next to pack and player themes
- Item filters take
name(text),enchantment(id)with an optional level check,potion(id)andrarity(...), and accept FTB Filter System'sroot(...).expression(filter/name)keeps its name on save custom(id/data)filters work through a KubeJSEmbersQuestingEvents.itemFilterhandler./eq import ftbquestskeeps custom filters and names each one in the report- Checkmark tasks, and quests that take their icon from one, show a green check instead of paper
- Dependency lines can have an outline: theme colors
line_outlineandline_outline_width, andoutlineandoutline_widthon quest style lines. Off by default - Quests can be locked in place from their right click menu or the quest editor (
locked). A locked quest stays put when its selection is dragged and has no resize handles. Lock selected locks every selected quest at once - Filter builder: the Filter field has a button that opens a screen for building item filters without the syntax. Rows for All of, Any of, Not and Only one groups, items, tags, mods, enchantments, potions and the other filter types, each set through a picker. Up and down buttons reorder rows, presets start common filters, a grid previews the matching items, and the filter text stays in sync both ways
- Theme colors show as set. In the Minecraft theme, claimed and claimable nodes take their color from the palette (gold
#dba213by default) instead of tinting a gold frame, so a cyan claimed node is cyan. New theme colors cover the check badge, dimmed nodes, the selected row, the edit button, done task text, the scroll bar and the chapter list sidebar and folder icons - Recipe picker: adding a recipe to a description opens a picker with search over recipe ids and output names, category tabs, an output item filter and a preview. With JEI, EMI or REI installed, modded recipes show in the viewer's own layout, and clicking a slot opens its recipes or uses there. Recipes store their id and the viewer category. EMI covers 1.20.1 and 1.21.1. The raw recipe field stays for ids typed by hand
- Right click an item icon in a quest while editing for Give item, Show recipes and Show uses. Give item hands you one of the item with its data and needs permission level 2
- Lang extract writes one key per description line with its formatting inline, so
inlinerestores the line exactly. Packs extracted the old way still render the same - Theme colors for the optional quest ring in every theme. Themes made from the Minecraft theme that saved white for claimed and claimable nodes draw them gold as before
- Entities animate: mobs walk in place and dragons, bats and chickens flap, in descriptions, scenes and entity icons. Entity content and scene entities take
pose:walk(the default),idle, flyorstill. An entity that throws while animating or rendering freezes instead of crashing the game - New quest shape
nonedraws only the icon, with no background. The node keeps its full click area, hover and selection./eq import ftbquestskeeps FTB Questsnoneshapes - Image decorations and image content with an item take
glintfor an enchantment shine without real enchantments - Lock and Unlock in a decoration's right click menu apply to every selected decoration
- New client setting Pedestal highlights, off by default: the world view marks each available pedestal blue, each claimable one gold and each done one green
- Edit mode never shows the world view. A world chapter shows a note at the top of the flat map while editing, and the Style and World field tooltips say so
- A numbered image series such as
fire_1.png,fire_2.pngonly animates when the first frame has a.png.mcmetawith{"series": true}. Before, any_1,_2file names animated, so imported FTB Quests packs showed unrelated images cycling - Video and audio in quest descriptions: MPEG-1 video and Ogg or WAV audio with play, pause, seek, volume and a full screen view, plus captions and a transcript that follows the audio.
.srtfiles import as captions. The editor's Import converts MP4, WebM, MOV and MP3 with ffmpeg when it is installed - WebP and animated WebP images load anywhere images do, including quest, task and chapter icons, and the texture picker can import them
- Clicking the icon of a task that accepts several items, blocks or mobs, such as a tag, a filter or any variant, opens a list of everything it accepts
- Scene blocks can be marked optional in the blocks editor. They still show in the scene but stay out of the material list and the in-world build preview
- The scene blocks editor has Reset camera and an Isometric view
- Worlds are data. Packs add their own world in
assets/<namespace>/eq_worlds/<name>.jsonor underconfig/embersquesting/pack, can extend a built-in world, and pick it in the chapter editor./eq validatereports unknown chapter worlds and broken world files - World chapters build in the background and show a loading note instead of freezing the screen. The world mesh only covers blocks you can see
- Locked parts of a world chapter stay hidden. Floating islands grow piece by piece as quests unlock and fogged worlds push their fog back
- Click open ground in a world chapter to walk your figure there
- Quests in world chapters glow softly, in the Pedestal highlights colors when that setting is on
- Picking or importing a video fills in its width and height from the video. A video decoration keeps its width and takes the video's shape. Sizes you typed are left alone
- Import checks a video or audio file by its contents, not its name. Anything that is not MPEG-1 video, Ogg Vorbis or WAV is converted with ffmpeg, and the message says whether the file was copied or converted and where it was saved. The pickers list the supported formats
- A video or audio file that cannot play shows why in place of the player, and
/eq validatereports it - Video and audio keep playing while the game is paused
- New reward type
locatefinds a structure, biome, point of interest or mob for the player who claims it, with the same chat, compass, waypoint and glow outputs as the locate button - New task type
observe: look at a block or entity within reach, optionally for a number of ticks./eq import ftbqueststurns FTB Quests observation tasks into it - Quests take
start, a list of conditions that must hold to accept the quest or for it to start on its own. The Accept button stays grayed out with the first unmet condition in its tooltip, and/eq acceptand KubeJS skip the check - Conditions take
at: targetto check a kill, use on entity or use on block task at the mob or block instead of the player, so a mob killed inside a structure counts from outside it. New fail triggerleavefails a quest once its condition stops holding - New task types
break_blockandplace_blockcount blocks the player breaks or places, with an optional block state and, for breaking, atool. Neither counts in creative mode at: targetalso works onbreak_block,place_blockandobserve, checking the broken, placed or looked at block- Build previews turn with R, and Sneak+R turns them back. It works on the preview you hold or the nearest pinned one, and pins keep their rotation
- Build previews show chests, beds, banners and other blocks drawn by a block entity renderer as ghosts too, turned with the preview
- Scenes built by timeline steps offer Preview in world and the material list for their finished build
- The theme editor's color picker has an Opacity field. See-through colors show a checkerboard swatch and their percent, and window and border colors keep their opacity where a theme reuses them
- Video and audio show Buffering... when playback waits for data
- Video and audio
autoplaytakes"first"to play only the first time a player sees the block in a world - Video and audio blocks take
play_onandstop_onwith quest events: accepted, started, completed, claimed, failed and reset. Audio plays even with the book closed, video plays the next time the quest is shown - New task type
listen: play a video or audio file for some seconds or a share of its length
Fixes
- Fences, panes, redstone and modded cables such as Refined Storage cables connect to their neighbors in scenes. On Forge 1.20.1, connections a mod keeps only in model data, such as AE2 cable buses, still show unconnected
- The pencil and remove buttons on a scene palette row no longer also pick that row as the brush
- Hovering the scene blocks preview names the block under the cursor instead of a block from an older version of the scene
- The video player sizes itself to the video, so a narrow panel no longer leaves gaps above and below the picture
- The Cover fit crops the video to fill its box instead of drawing the wrong part of the frame
- Videos and audio no longer freeze after a recipe screen or the link confirmation opens over the quest book
- Forge 1.20.1 no longer crashes when EMI opens a recipe screen, through a fixed bundled LDLib2
- Iron's Spells is accepted from 3.14.4 on NeoForge 1.21.1 and from 3.15.0 on Forge 1.20.1
- The description pager uses small arrow buttons with tooltips, so it fits narrow panels
- The JSON schema accepts
filteron item tasks and other item matches - Turning a description page or opening another quest scrolls the description back to the top
/eq import ftbquestsbrings over FTB Quests image clicks: quest, quest link, task and chapter links (#<id>andopen_quest:<id>), URLs andcommand:. Clicks it cannot map are named in the report/eq theme listshows plain theme names- Hovering the icon of a task that accepts any variant, such as any Iron's Spells scroll, names it "Any Scroll" instead of whichever variant the icon shows. Recipe and uses clicks open the plain item
- Loading a stat task or stat condition before any quest no longer fails while the classes set up
- A quest whose details stay hidden while locked can no longer be opened by clicking it, from search or from a link. Edit mode still opens it
- An image decoration with an item no longer fails with "An image needs exactly one of texture or item" when reopened in the editor
- Clicking an image decoration without dragging no longer moves it. Off-grid images keep their offset while dragged
- The chapter editor's two Visibility rows are now Quest visibility and Chapter visibility, each with its own tooltip
/eq import ftbquestshides quests whose only dependencies are invisible quests, as FTB Quests does- FTB Quests imports:
{@pagebreak}becomes a page instead of leaving blank lines behind, and stray\ntext becomes line breaks. Chapter images keep FTB Quests'order, always draw below the quests, and keep theircolorandalpha, so shadow copies no longer draw as full color pictures.item:images fill their box like other images. Editor-only and quest-dependent images are named in the import report - Changing a scene setting keeps the layers shown in the preview instead of going back to one
- Opening the item picker no longer crashes when a mod adds a creative tab item whose data cannot be saved, such as a potion with an unregistered effect holder. Those variants are left out of the picker
/eq import ftbquestsbrings over much more of a real pack: task titles from the lang files (such as "Any Iron's Scroll"), task and reward icons,ftbquests:missing_itemstacks restored to the original item,disable_toast, item rewardrandom_bonusasbonus,team_reward, reward tablehide_tooltip, optional tasks, hidden dependency lines,{@pagebreak}as a divider, clickable description links,/ftbquests change_progresscommands rewritten to/eq complete, chapterdefault_quest_size, and table ids from their file names- A task that accepts any variant of an item, such as any Iron's Spells scroll, reads "Gather any 1x Scroll" and its icon cycles through the item's variants instead of showing a None Scroll
- Tasks take
titleandicon. Rewards taketitle,iconandteam_reward. Item rewards takebonusand reward tables takehide_contents. A route with stylehiddendraws no line outside edit mode - The item picker lists every creative tab variant and has a Data box, so any picked item can carry enchantments, potion contents or modded data such as Iron's Spells spells, for quest, chapter and folder icons, tasks, rewards, tables and decorations
- Imported FTB Quests item tasks keep their item data. A task for any Iron's Spells scroll shows the right scroll instead of a None scroll, through the new
match_components: "none"that keeps data for the icon and name but matches any stack. Task and reward text name the item with its data - The Filter field tooltip no longer starts with "Format error"
- Untitled reward tables read Random reward, Choice reward or All rewards by mode instead of "Reward table <id>", everywhere a table shows. The importer leaves FTB Quests default table titles empty so these names apply
- Quest icons, task and reward icons, item content and the pickers keep item data. The icon SNBT box in the quest editor now updates the preview as you type, turns red when the data does not fit the item (for example 1.20 style NBT on 1.21), and inventory picks keep potion, enchantment and spell data. Iron's Spells scrolls show their spell on reward and task icons.
/eq validatechecks icon data against the registries and the JSON schema acceptsid{...} - A quest can set its own
progressionin the editor, under Options, andNot settakes the chapter or book default. A quest set tolinearinside aflexiblechapter keeps that on save. The FTB Quests importer keeps a quest's own progression mode where it differs from the chapter instead of dropping it - Right clicking a quest or chapter in edit mode can mark it complete or reset its progress for you, the same as the
completeandresetcommands - Imported FTB Quests chapter images now match their size on the FTB Quests map. They were about a seventh too large per unit and drifted off their quests, so a page image no longer lines up with the slots it was drawn for
- Time stats such as Time Played count in Minecraft days, so a 100 day quest reads 100 days instead of 1.39 d
- Notifications drop in from the top instead of sliding in from the side
- The selected reward choice uses the pressed surface color with an accent outline, so the theme editor's pressed color changes it
- A chapter without an icon cycles through the icons of its quests in the chapter list and the log tabs
- Picking a tag such as
#c:stonesas a quest or chapter icon now sets the icon. It used to land in a separatetagkey and the icon stayed empty - New quest option
invisible_until_complete: the quest stays off the map until it is completed, like the invisible flag in FTB Quests. The importer mapsinvisibleto it instead of approximating it with hidden visibility - Imported chapter images follow the same whole-cell snap as the quests around them, so page slots line up with the nodes instead of drifting by the quests' fractional offset
- Right clicking a chapter in edit mode offers Move up and Move down, which reorder it among the chapters of its folder
- The quest editor has an SNBT box next to the icon, so an icon can be an enchanted sword or a tipped arrow without editing the file
- Ctrl or Shift with a left drag on empty map space draws the selection box again. The map's own pan took over the drag whenever the press landed outside the content area
- Stat tasks no longer crash the quest list when a custom stat is looked up by a parsed id
- The pop-out window no longer leaves the mouse locked to the center of the game window. On X11 desktops such as KDE the game released the mouse after the new window had already taken focus, which the X11 backend ignores, so the cursor kept snapping back until you clicked the game again. The mouse is now released first. While the book window has focus the game also keeps reporting itself as focused, so pause on lost focus and Dynamic FPS no longer throttle it. A toast points at the new window when the desktop does not focus it. On Wayland the game stops waiting for vertical sync while the book window is focused, which kept the book from stalling when it covered the game
