This mod connects Minecraft to IRC (Internet Relay Chat) channels. On a Minecraft client it acts like any other IRC client, on the server it turns into a bridge-bot. Configuration is highly customizable and the mod includes a few special features such as name colors, Twitch chat and screenshot upload.

If anyone is interested I've forked the mod and updated it to 1.11.2.
I've tested it on single player with a local irc server and live irc server with a few other mods and had no problems, if you find any let me know.

BetterMinecraftChat is now called Chat Tweaks
Now is there a way to use this between 2 servers that are in different versions? I have a FTB server running and would like to have an IRC to chat in game with a vanilla server we have running aswell...
Is this mod no longer being updated?
I like to have Twitch playing in the background on my SSP world and if IRC Bridge is server-side only, wouldn't IRC Bridge not work in single player?
The reason I ask this was because I was planning on updating my modded world to 1.9 but I was disappointed to see that this mod may never make it to 1.9.
I'm in the process of splitting this mod into a separate mod for Twitch to make up for its special conditions. There will be a client-side mod for general IRC connections, and one specifically for Twitch (which will depend on BetterMinecraftChat for things like emotes & deleted messages). I just have a lot of mods to maintain and port to 1.9, so I'm not finished yet.
I've just released the Twitch Integration module for BetterMinecraftChat so you can have Twitch chat within Minecraft again.
So I love this mod. I use it on my Stream in order to keep an easy communication with my viewers..
I've run into a problem though:
I recently added this to FTB: Unleashed, Running 1.5.2 I added the 1.5 incarnation of the mod.. (Haven't tried the latest yet)
I can't seem to stay connected to the twitch server with the new channel implementations (irc.chat.twitch.tv:80) If I use the Twitch Connector, it puts me on the old chat servers, and if I put the new server information into a new basic IRC Server, add the channel as #channelname. It connects, stays on for a few seconds and then DCs. I'm using the Oauth: Method for my password, including the OAUTH: portion..
You can find out what server you need to connect to by going to http://tmi.twitch.tv/servers?channel=yourchannelname and picking one of the non-websocket servers. It also seems like Twitch has finished its migration of chat servers and the old irc.twitch.tv is pointing at the new servers now as well.
In reply to BlayTheNinth:
I can login into my Twitch chat using the OAUTH password and the Twitch login, receive and send messages to Twitch Chat from the game but after a few minutes If I remain inactive in chat, it disconnect me from the Twitch Chat and won't reconnect me unless I talk in chat.
I miss all my friend message from chat when that happens.
I'm a newbie when it comes to using IRC. Is the above reply helpful for me?
And how would I input this data to log into my Twitch Chat.
I tried a few things but it never connect me to the channel (the green dot next to a channel).
Can you help me please :)
EDIT: Able to connect to my server using irc.chat.twitch.tv:6667
and my channel name but my name never change color to my Twitch name and badge won't display (this is minor issue) but the above issue still remains, it does disconnect after a minute or so.
I finally got this mod working. Is there any chance that we will see BetterTTV emotes implemented?

It's a config option there.
I'm having trouble getting this to work. When I try to join other Twitch streamers' channels, the chat isn't displayed nor do messages I send ever make it to Twitch chat.
Here's an example of me trying to join Kripp's channel. As you can see, Twitch chat messages don't appear.
Twitch has started moving some channels to their new chat servers.
See http://tmi.twitch.tv/servers?channel=nl_kripp
That means the address you need to use to join that channel is
Ive noticed eirairc-mc1.8.9-4.9.12 Has a bug when Using the Shortcut of Switching from IRC Channel's, It is Holding the #WLR Channel while trying every other Channel..
Happened 2 times by now.
If this is a Forge Problem i dunno, Seems do, Aldo i have one of the Latest versions >.<

Why does this mod not want to connect to freenode when it connected when it was first installed?
