Make the darkness matter.
Dread & Sanctuary adds a Fear system, stalking Wraith Shades, and claimable sanctuary shrines to underground exploration. Push deeper for greater rewards, manage your Fear, and keep a route back to safety.
Your Fear rises in deep darkness, near monsters and sculk threats, and after certain attacks. Daylight surface building and well-lit bases generate no Fear.
Features include:
-
Fear Meter: Track Fear from 0–100 through a color-coded action-bar display showing your current tier and the causes affecting it.
-
Risk and reward: Uneasy players earn bonus monster XP. Terrified players gain a larger XP bonus and an extra effective Looting level, while suffering movement penalties and attracting Shades. Panic adds Weakness and temporarily blocks food-based natural healing.
-
Wraith Shades: Shadowy creatures that glide through dark walls. Bright block light, Sunfire Ward Torches, and nearby shrines burn and repel them.
-
Gilded Tithe Shrines: Place a shrine to claim it. Owners and scoreboard teammates pay 8 Gold Ingots for ten minutes of Sanctuary Grace, plus Resistance, Luck, and brief Regeneration. Outsiders pay 30 Gold Ingots for four minutes of Grace.
-
Owner treasury: Each outsider payment deposits 22 Gold Ingots into the shrine’s vault. Owners can sneak-right-click to collect it. Breaking a shrine drops its stored gold.
-
Sanctuary Censers: Carry a rechargeable incense vessel that reduces Fear and halves incoming Fear while active. Fuel it with glow berries, amethyst shards, or golden apples.
-
Elixir of Clarity: Use Shade Essence to craft a drink that removes 60 Fear and grants Night Vision and Speed for three minutes.
Both shrine payment options immediately clear Fear and banish nearby Shades. Sanctuary Grace prevents Fear from returning while active.
Requirements: Minecraft Java Edition 1.21.1, Java 21, Fabric Loader 0.16.14 or newer, and Fabric API 0.116.6+1.21.1. Install the mod and Fabric API on both the client and server.
Server configuration supports adjustable Fear rates, shrine prices, treasury deposits, and blessing durations.
