DLSS STYLE V2.1
Curse Maven Snippet
What's new
DLSS Style 2.1.0
DLSS Style now works properly with far more shader packs, and it does it without touching the packs themselves. It was tested against more than 35 popular pack versions, including BSL, Complementary, Sildur's, photon, Hysteria, Solas and MakeUp. Several of them had broken light shafts, clouds or fog when DLSS Style shrank their shadows or buffers, and those are fixed. The 1.21 versions also catch up with 1.20.1: shadow caching under Iris, a settings page in Sodium, and the upscaler and frame generation actually running.
Added
Shadow caching with Iris on 1.21.
The biggest fps win under shader packs, which 1.20.1 already had with Oculus, now works on 1.21.1, 1.21.3 and 1.21.4.
A DLSS Style page in Sodium's video settings on 1.21.
Sodium replaces the vanilla video settings screen, which used to hide DLSS Style's button. Its settings now have their own page there.
Smoother moving shadows.
Packs whose shadows sway with the wind or ripple with water caustics now refresh those shadows often enough that they no longer step while you stand still.
Fixed
Light shafts and shadows no longer break when shadows are scaled down.
A pack still believed its shadow map was full size after DLSS Style shrank it, so light shafts, soft shadows and fog read the wrong spots. Packs now see the real size. This affected Complementary 5.8 and newer, Sildur's Vibrant, Hysteria, photon, Kappa, Nostalgia and others.
Clouds and fog line up again in Hysteria and photon.
These packs keep some effects at a fixed fraction of the screen, and DLSS Style was shrinking them a second time. If you saw white slabs in the sky or a black block over the view, this was it.
Colored lighting no longer flickers in Solas.
Packs that rebuild colored light inside the shadow pass now keep that pass running every frame.
The pack doctor no longer wipes out a pack's fog.
When a pack used a value Oculus doesn't know, the doctor used to zero out the whole line it sat in. In Mellow that removed all fog. It now replaces only the unknown part.
The upscaler and frame generation now run on 1.21.
On every 1.21 version they were silently switched off, because they still pointed at parts of Minecraft that changed in 1.21. Getting them running also meant fixing camera turns and how entities, water and particles are placed while scaling.
The frame-rate ceiling works on 1.21.3 and 1.21.4.
Big mobs like the Ender Dragon no longer vanish on 1.21.3 and 1.21.4.
Sharpening no longer builds up over time.
No stale frame after teleporting, strafing or a skipped frame.
The hit pause now works on servers.
Removed
Seven settings that did nothing.
They were left over from older versions. Forge warns once that the config file was corrected; that is expected.
Notes
The first start with shaders on reloads the pack once.
Your shader pack loads before DLSS Style has read its settings, so DLSS Style rebuilds it once with your real settings. You only see an extra moment on the loading screen.
Scaling presets no longer shrink a pack's partial-size effects a second time.
If you liked the extra fps from that, set Pack Buffer Scale yourself. Packs that would break from it are protected automatically.
