DLSS STYLE V2.2
Curse Maven Snippet
What's new
DLSS Style 2.2.0 — Every Graphics Card
DLSS Style now helps on old PCs too. Players on cards like a GT 210 or GT 710 used to get no gain at all, and often a loss, because the upscale pass that is nearly free on a modern card costs an old one more than it saves. 2.2.0 splits the mod into two presets: STYLE (NEW) for newer graphics cards and STYLE (OLD) for older cards and older PCs, and picks the right one for you. STYLE (OLD) also brings a shorter draw distance, a steady fps cap, a 30 fps floor and a particle cap in storms, so old PCs get more fps and steadier fps. On our low-end test setup STYLE (OLD) roughly doubled the frame rate.
Added
Two presets: STYLE (NEW) and STYLE (OLD). STYLE (NEW) is the upscaler you know, made for newer cards: RTX, Radeon RX 5000 and newer, and Intel Arc. STYLE (OLD) renders smaller and stretches the picture once, with no upscale pass at all. It is made for older setups: cards like the GT 210, GT 710 and Intel HD graphics, and dual-core PCs. It doesn't need the upscale shader, so it also runs well on cards with poor shader support.
A Quality setting for both presets. Pick Quality, Balanced, Performance or Ultra Performance to set how big the world renders. Quality is full resolution on STYLE (NEW), so it works as anti-aliasing only, like the old DLAA. On STYLE (OLD) it is 90%. Ctrl+U cycles through them.
The right preset is picked for you. On first launch DLSS Style checks your graphics card and starts older cards on STYLE (OLD). The first time you join a world it also checks how heavy STYLE (NEW) is on your PC. If it is too heavy, it switches to STYLE (OLD) and tells you in chat, with a one-click Undo. A preset you picked yourself is never changed.
A shorter draw distance in STYLE (OLD). Terrain is drawn up to 8 chunks, with the fog brought in to match, so old cards draw far fewer blocks. Your Render Distance setting stays as it is and nothing reloads. You can change it or turn it off with OLD Draw Distance. It has no effect with a shader pack.
A steady fps cap in STYLE (OLD). It holds fps at a level your PC can actually keep, so frames come out evenly instead of jumping around. With VSync on it locks to your screen's refresh, like 60 or 30 on a 60 Hz screen. It never goes above your own Max Framerate.
A 30 fps floor in STYLE (OLD). When the game stays under 30 fps, DLSS Style draws a little less, one step at a time: a shorter draw distance first, then a lower Quality. It raises them back slowly once your PC has room again, and your own settings are never changed. If that is still not enough, it suggests the fast settings in chat. Set the target, or turn it off, with Min FPS (OLD).
A particle cap in storms in STYLE (OLD). Heavy rain, explosions and big block-break showers no longer flood an old PC with particles. Bursts are thinned evenly. Quiet scenes, hit effects and item pickups are never touched.
Fast settings for weak PCs. One click on Apply Fast Settings, or /dlssstyle fastsettings, switches Minecraft's heaviest settings to fast ones: Graphics Fast, Clouds Off, Smooth Lighting Off and a few more. Render distance, frame rate limit and VSync are left alone. Undo puts everything back.
An optional FPS readout. Off by default. Turn it on in the settings or with /dlssstyle stats on to see your average fps, 1% low and spikes in the top-left corner, plus what DLSS Style is doing. It hides with F1, on the F3 screen and in menus.
/dlssstyle commands. See what the mod is doing with /dlssstyle status, or change it straight from chat with on, off, preset new, preset old, quality and undo.
An On/Off switch. It replaces the old Off preset. Off now means the mod does nothing at all: no upscaling, no culling, no particle limit, no fps cap, no shadow cache and no changes to your shader pack.
Lighter culling on weak CPUs. Hiding mobs and things like chests and signs behind walls now costs less on a slow CPU. If you have the Entity Culling mod installed, DLSS Style's own mob and chest culling steps aside and lets it do the job.
Memory advice in the log. At startup DLSS Style checks your video memory and how much memory Java has, and writes advice to the log if either is low.
Fixed
No more slowdown on old graphics cards. On weak cards the old default ran slower than plain Minecraft. If DLSS Style gave you fewer fps instead of more, this was it.
No more 55 fps cap on normal screens. The VRR ceiling is now off by default, because it caused judder on normal 60 Hz screens in fullscreen. Turn it on if your monitor has G-Sync or FreeSync. Older cards that can't do G-Sync or FreeSync never get it.
Settings no longer change back by themselves. A preset or Quality you picked could sometimes flip back a moment later.
The settings file is saved safely. A crash in the middle of a save can no longer break it, and Forge no longer warns that it is "Correcting" the file.
Textures stay sharp after F3+T or a resource pack change.
Off no longer touches shader packs or textures. With the mod off, your shader pack is no longer rebuilt or scaled, and textures are left as Minecraft sets them.
Chat links can't be faked by servers. Only DLSS Style's own [Undo] and [Apply fast settings] links can run its commands. A server message or a book can't.
Many smaller fixes.
Removed
The DLAA and Dynamic presets. STYLE (NEW) at Quality now does what DLAA did. Your old settings carry over by themselves: DLAA becomes STYLE (NEW) at Quality, Balanced, Performance and Ultra Performance keep their level, and Off becomes the new switch set to Off.
Notes
After updating, DLSS Style picks NEW or OLD once. RTX, Radeon RX 5000 and newer, and Intel Arc start on STYLE (NEW). GTX and older GeForce cards, older Radeon cards and Intel HD/UHD graphics start on STYLE (OLD). Your Quality level is kept, and you can switch the preset any time. Your own pick sticks.
