Cobblemon Field Survival
Turn your Pokémon into true survival companions.
This project was made with AI assistance.
(only code assistance, not assets)
Minecraft 1.21.1 • NeoForge • Cobblemon 1.7.3 • Java 21
Cobblemon Field Survival expands Cobblemon beyond battles by making your Pokémon part of exploration, gathering, crafting, combat and environmental survival.
Typing opens the door to different kinds of field work, but the individual Pokémon still matters. Species, level, evolution, aptitude, nature, personality, friendship, condition and experience all influence how useful a companion becomes.
Water Pokémon can keep you alive underwater and improve swimming.
Fire Pokémon can cook, dry you off and protect you from the cold.
Fighting Pokémon help restore your lost combat effectiveness.
Rock & Ground Pokémon can mine and carve tunnels through the world.
Fairy Pokémon can heal and restore the stamina of your team.
Dragon Pokémon can act as Commanders, strengthening the work of their companions.
The goal is simple:
Every Pokémon you catch should feel useful.
CFS deliberately shifts part of the player's normal survival capability onto the team. On your own, you begin 50% less efficient at supported field activities, take 33% more damage, and deal 33% less damage. Fielded Pokémon help you recover — and eventually exceed — those capabilities through active actions and passive support.

🌿 Pokémon That Actually Help You Survive
Press V to open the Field Command Wheel. Choose one of your six party Pokémon to access its Combat, Movement, Care, Synergy and Pokémon-specific actions, or use General Command to work with the abilities of your currently fielded team.
The Field Command Wheel keeps commands fast while preserving all six party positions.

Available actions are determined by Pokémon typing, physical capabilities and developing Field Skills.
For deeper information, open the FielDex to inspect a Pokémon's Field Skills, aptitude, personality, favorite food, profession, care state, bonuses and available actions.
Open it from M → Others → Field Survival
or use the configurable FielDex keybind (default: .).

Everything relevant to that Pokémon's life as a field companion, in one place.

What does “Mining +40%” mean?
That value has two purposes:
- It provides a passive proficiency bonus to the player while that Pokémon is fielded.
- It represents how capable that Pokémon is when using its own active Mining actions.
For example, if your base Mining proficiency is 50% and your fielded Pokémon provides +40%, your effective Mining proficiency becomes 90% — almost restoring vanilla efficiency.
Multiple Pokémon can contribute, but additional contributors use diminishing returns: the strongest contribution counts fully, while later contributions are progressively reduced.
The player proficiency cap is 170%. Reaching the cap means performing that activity up to 70% faster than vanilla.
⚔ Combat Commands
Your Pokémon can defend you outside of traditional Cobblemon battles.
Use field commands to order companions to attack creatures and hostile mobs, with Pokémon choosing appropriate ranged and melee techniques.
Press G to ping creatures, players or locations from a distance, making Pokémon feel like companions you can actually direct in the world.

⛏ Mining & Excavation
Rock and Ground Pokémon can become powerful mining companions.
Rather than simply generating resources, they physically interact with the world:
- Mine blocks
- Excavate areas
- Dig tunnels
- Help open paths underground
Different Pokémon sizes and capabilities influence how they work, while their Field Skills determine how efficiently they perform the job.

🌱 Foraging & Resource Gathering
Your Pokémon can search the environment for useful materials.
Field abilities turn exploration into another form of progression, rewarding you for bringing the right companion into the right environment.
Bulbasaur returns with a carrot it found while foraging.

💧 Water Work
Water Pokémon provide an entire set of survival utilities:
- Fill containers
- Fill water blocks
- Improve your swimming
- Grant Water Breathing
- Assist with fishing
- Perform other water-related field work
Their Water Work skill determines how capable and efficient they become.

🎣 Pokémon-Assisted Fishing
Fishing becomes a proper field activity where your Pokémon can assist you rather than simply standing nearby.
Squirtle brings us a cod while fishing.

🔥 Cooking & Food Survival
Fire Pokémon can cook food directly in the field.
They can also interact with supported survival mechanics such as frozen food, allowing a Fire companion to warm preserved food and return it to normal use — including compatibility with Food Spoilage.
Charmander using Flamethrower on raw chicken to cook it.

⛺ Shelter & Emergency Survival
Certain combinations of Pokémon unlock powerful cooperative survival techniques.
Need somewhere to sleep? Your companions may be able to construct an Improvised Bed in the field.
Caterpie and Bulbasaur use Razor Leaf and String Shot on a pinged position to create a sleeping bag.

These abilities are intended to feel like meaningful emergency tools rather than replacements for every normal Minecraft mechanic.
🧬 What Does Each Type Bring to Survival?
Typing gives a Pokémon its natural field identity. It determines the jobs, active abilities, passive support and emergency buffs that species can potentially access. Field Skills then determine how good that individual Pokémon becomes at those jobs.
Dual-types can combine multiple identities, so unusual combinations can become especially flexible companions.
- Normal — Flexible generalists. Normal Pokémon can contribute to many everyday Field Skills and may gain practical actions such as Mining, Fishing or Foraging when their species is physically capable of them.
- Fire — Specialists in Warmth and Cooking. They can cook food, thaw supported frozen food, dry the trainer, protect against cold and contribute to Campfire, Heat Wave and Storm Call synergies.
- Water — Specialists in Fishing, Water Work and Cooling. They fill containers and water blocks, improve swimming, provide Water Breathing, help with fishing and contribute to Berry Bloom and Storm Call.
- Electric — Exploration and mobility support. Electric Pokémon can increase the trainer's movement speed while active, create temporary light and contribute to 'Storm Call'.
- Grass — Specialists in Logging and Farming. They forage, harvest crops, accelerate plant growth, provide shade against heat and contribute to Berry Bloom, Campfire and Improvised Bed synergies.
- Ice — Specialists in Cooling and Preservation. They help control dangerous heat, freeze or preserve food and can rapidly cool the trainer with Icy Wind.
- Fighting — Specialists in Protection and physical work. Their Protection contribution directly helps offset CFS's combat handicap by raising the trainer's outgoing damage and reducing incoming damage. Skilled Fighting support can restore you toward normal Minecraft combat effectiveness, while Fighting Pokémon themselves hit harder in field combat at the cost of additional Stamina.
- Poison — Natural Alchemy specialists. They improve brewing work, can use 'Cleanse' to restore food, and their offensive field Debuffs lean toward Poison and Weakness.
- Ground — Specialists in Mining and Excavation. They dig tunnels, search ore veins, clear underground paths and can help form an Earth Refuge with Psychic support.
- Flying — Specialists in Exploration. They Scout for structures and biomes, launch the trainer through the air with 'Updraft', rescue dangerous falls with 'Catch Me' and can combine with Fire for 'Heat Wave'.
- Psychic — Specialists in Alchemy and Enchanting. They support enchanting work, manipulate dropped items with Telekinesis, teleport the trainer toward marked positions and combine with Ground/Rock Pokémon for Earth Refuge.
- Bug — Natural Logging helpers with strong field-control utility (some can directly chop trees). They can create temporary Web Walls and combine with Grass Pokémon to make an Improvised Bed.
- Rock — Heavy Mining specialists. They carve tunnels, mine ore and can provide the physical half of an Earth Refuge. Their emergency support also favors raw resistance.
- Ghost — Stealth and traversal specialists. Fielded Ghosts reduce how easily hostile creatures detect you, can use Shift to move you through short obstructions and can provide emergency Invisibility.
- Dragon — Natural Commanders. Rather than focusing on one ordinary job, Dragon Pokémon amplify the trainer's strongest active Field Skill contribution and can provide powerful offensive emergency support.
- Dark — Threat specialists. They can detect and highlight nearby hostile creatures, use Nightmare against targets to make them flee away.
- Steel — Specialists in Mining and Smithing. They improve anvil work, repair compatible equipment and naturally provide strong defensive support.
- Fairy — Specialists in Farming and Preservation. They Mend Wounds, heal party Pokémon, Cleanse harmful effects, restores food freshness (Food Soilage) and restore allied stamina.
Type determines opportunity; Field Skill determines performance. A Fighting type may have access to Protection, for example, but its actual contribution still depends on that individual Pokémon's progression, personality, friendship, condition and other Field Skill factors.
⭐ Field Skills
Each Field Skill represents a different kind of practical expertise. Higher skill can improve work speed, stamina efficiency, effect strength, range, duration or cooldown, depending on the action.
- Mining — Improves individual block breaking and mining work.
- Excavation — Governs large-scale digging, clearing, tunneling and archaeology.
- Logging — Improves player woodcutting and makes Logging-capable Pokémon faster at their work.
- Farming — Improves crop assistance, autonomous harvesting and potential yield.
- Fishing — Improves fishing speed and reward quality.
- Water Work — Governs swimming support, Water Breathing and water utility, improving efficiency and reducing relevant costs.
- Cooking — Improves food preparation, Fire-assisted cooking, furnace support and thawing.
- Exploration — Improves travel utility and Scout, with better proficiency unlocking rarer structure searches.
- Alchemy — Improves brewing and other alchemical work, especially for Poison and Psychic specialists.
- Enchanting — Governs Psychic-assisted enchanting and the experience savings gained from that support.
- Protection — Fighting specialists use Protection to offset the trainer combat handicap: it increases your outgoing damage and reduces incoming damage while also improving defensive actions such as Guard and their Stamina efficiency.
- Smithing — Improves Repair and metalworking, reducing stamina costs as proficiency increases.
- Preservation — Governs restorative support. Fairy Stamina Recovery scales from 33–99 stamina restored while its activation cost falls from 66–33.
- Warmth — Helps protect the trainer from cold conditions.
- Cooling — Helps the trainer cope with excessive heat.
A Pokémon's Field Skills are influenced by its progression and individual characteristics, so two Pokémon of the same species can develop very different strengths and professions.
🧭 What Makes Every Pokémon Different?
Field Skills aren't based on species alone. Each Pokémon develops its strengths through a combination of natural aptitude, progression, care and experience.
- Species & Type — Determines which kinds of field work a Pokémon is naturally suited for. Secondary typings can open additional roles.
- Level & Evolution — Progression steadily improves natural field potential, while evolution can provide major jumps.
- Aptitude & Rarity — Individual Pokémon have natural differences, with rarity providing a modest additional advantage.
- Friendship — A stronger bond improves field performance, contributing up to roughly +15% at maximum friendship.
- Food & Favorite Foods — Hungry Pokémon lose part of their potential. Favorite foods provide 20% more fullness and friendship, rewarding attentive care.
- Condition — Health, stamina, hunger and rest all matter. Exhausted or fainted Pokémon cannot provide unlimited assistance.
- Nature — Natures favor particular kinds of field work.
- Personality — Field Personalities push Pokémon toward specific roles. A Protective Pokémon favors Protection, an Energetic one favors Smithing, and a Patient companion favors Fishing, Water Work and Cooling.
- Shiny Pokémon — Shiny Pokémon receive an additional field advantage and may exceed normal progression where overcap is supported.
📚 Field Mastery
Field Skill and Mastery are different things.
Field Skill = how naturally capable the Pokémon is.
Mastery = how experienced it has become at doing the job.
For example, a Water Pokémon may naturally have excellent Water Work, while repeated practice develops its Waterwork Mastery, improving its learned performance at specific water jobs. The same idea applies to Fishing and other mastered field actions.
Catching a powerful Pokémon is only part of progression. Feeding it, bonding with it, keeping it healthy and actually working alongside it all help turn it into a capable field companion.
🏅 Professions
A Pokémon's Profession is not a class you manually choose. It is a readable summary of what that individual Pokémon is currently best at.
Possible professions include Miner, Fisher, Cook, Blacksmith, Alchemist, Guardian, Sentinel, Phantom, Commander and more.
Two members of the same species may become completely different companions: one might develop into a Miner, while another becomes a Guardian, Fisher, Cook or Blacksmith.
That's the core idea behind Field Skills: the Pokémon itself matters, not just the species you caught.
🧪 Care Items, Medicine & Auto-Feeding
Cobblemon Field Survival adds several items that let you care for a Pokémon in an emergency, manage its long-term development, or automate basic feeding.
Medicine is not free power. Some items have meaningful costs or limitations, and relying too heavily on them can have consequences.
All medicine items are added to Foraging, Mining and Fishing loot tables.
💊 Stamina Pill
An emergency stimulant for a Pokémon that still has some fight left in it.
- Restores 20 Stamina.
- Costs 1 Friendship per dose.
- The dose counter resets after 5 minutes without another Stamina Pill.
- Giving more than 3 consecutive doses causes an overdose.

Overdose is serious: the Pokémon faints and becomes exhausted. It must first be revived and then complete a sheltered camp rest before it can fully recover. An Exhaustion Pill cannot bypass an overdose.
💊 Exhaustion Pill
A stronger emergency medicine intended for an already exhausted Pokémon.
- Removes ordinary Exhaustion.
- Restores 10 Stamina.
- Costs 5 Friendship.
- Cannot cure or bypass an overdose.

🧠 Personality Items
A Pokémon's Field Personality influences which kinds of work it naturally favors. These items let you alter that personality when you want to reshape a companion's role.
- Split Pill — Randomly changes the Pokémon's Field Personality to a different personality.

- Personality Pill — Opens a selection screen and lets you choose the Pokémon's new Field Personality. The pill is consumed once a choice is made.

🍬 Taste Candy
Rerolls the Pokémon's individual Favorite Food.
- The new favorite is always selected from foods valid for that Pokémon's type diet.
- It will choose a different favorite when another valid option exists.
- Favorite Foods restore 20% more Field Hunger and are the food-based route to gaining Friendship.

This makes Taste Candy useful when a Pokémon develops an awkward or expensive Favorite Food, while still respecting what that Pokémon can naturally eat.
💊 Temper Pill
Temper affects how easily a Pokémon trusts its trainer and whether it may resist field commands before enough Trust has been earned.

A Temper Pill lowers Temper by exactly one level:
Distrustful → Stubborn → Docile
It cannot be used on a Pokémon that is already Docile.
💗 Friendship Pill
A recovery tool for a Pokémon whose relationship with its trainer has fallen very low.
- If Friendship is below 50, the pill sets it directly to 50 Friendship.
- It cannot be used at 50 Friendship or higher.

It is intended as a way to recover from a badly damaged relationship — not as a shortcut to maximum Friendship.
🎒 Pokémon Auto-Feeder
If you use Traveler's Backpack or Sophisticated Backpacks, CFS adds a dedicated Pokémon Auto-Feeder Upgrade for each backpack system.
Travelers Backpack auto feeder:
Sophisticated Backpacks auto feeder:

Install the appropriate upgrade and keep Auto-Feeding Paste inside the backpack. The feeder periodically checks your active / summoned Pokémon and automatically consumes Paste when their Field Hunger becomes too low.
The Auto-Feeder is deliberately a maintenance system, not a replacement for personally feeding your Pokémon their Favorite Foods.
🥫 Basic Auto-Feeding Paste
- Each Paste restores 10 Field Hunger by default.
- The feeder uses it to maintain a basic Hunger safety floor of roughly 30%.
- Costs approximately 0.33 Friendship per Paste.
- It prevents neglect, but it is not nutritious enough to keep a Pokémon properly Fed.

Your Pokémon will eat Basic Paste, but they are not particularly happy about living on it.
🥫 Enriched Auto-Feeding Paste
- Each Paste restores 10 Field Hunger by default.
- It keeps Pokémon around the Fed range rather than merely preventing Hunger.
- Each consumed Paste grants +1 Friendship.
- If Enriched Paste is available, the feeder can use it to maintain the higher feeding target.
(Uses any Gen 3 berry in the centre)

Basic Paste is cheap emergency maintenance.
Enriched Paste is proper automated care.
Paste is designed specifically for the Auto-Feeder and cannot simply be right-clicked onto a Pokémon as normal food.
⚡ Stamina
Field work isn't free.
Pokémon use Stamina while performing demanding actions and supporting their trainer. Exhausted Pokémon need proper recovery rather than being treated as unlimited automation.
When a Pokémon becomes exhausted, it falls asleep and cannot perform field actions or participate in Pokémon battles until it has properly rested in shelter near a campfire.
🛡 Passive Field Support
Not every ability requires constant commands.
As long as an eligible Pokémon remains fielded in the same dimension, it can provide trainer-facing support even when it isn't standing directly beside you.
- Water — improved swimming while you are in the water
- Electric — movement-speed support while travelling
- Fighting / Protection — restores part of your lost damage output and reduces the extra damage you take
- Fire, Water & Ice — environmental Warmth/Cooling support where applicable
- Dark — threat detection and hostile highlighting
- Ghost — reduced hostile detection distance
- Dragon — Commander amplification for your strongest active Field Skill
- Psychic, Poison & Steel — specialized workstation support when physically present at the relevant workstation
Physical jobs such as mining, workstation assistance and world interaction still require the Pokémon to actually be present where the work is happening.
🚨 Powerful Emergency Buffs
Pokémon can provide temporary type-based Buffs when things go wrong.
These are deliberately designed as emergency abilities, not permanent potion replacements: powerful, short-lived, and limited by substantial cooldowns.
The radial menu tells you what the current Pokémon will provide, including:
- Effect & effect level
- Duration
- Stamina cost
- Current cooldown
Different typings provide different emergency effects: Fighting and Dragon lean toward Strength, Electric toward Speed, Rock and Steel toward Resistance, Ghost toward Invisibility, Fairy toward Luck, Ground toward Haste, and Flying/Psychic toward Slow Falling, among others.
So you can decide whether spending that emergency ability is worth it.
✨ Cooperative Synergies
Some of the strongest abilities require Pokémon working together.
These special field techniques combine different elemental strengths to produce effects far beyond ordinary actions.
⛈ Storm Call
Bring compatible elemental Pokémon together to manipulate the environment itself.
Charmander, Squirtle and Pikachu using their elements to create a micro-climate.

Synergies are intentionally powerful and limited, giving a well-developed team abilities that feel like major milestones.
