Description
ChestOrg organizes vanilla single and double chests using material-aware sorting templates and editable visual layouts.
Choose from 18 built-in templates, customize ordering, merge matching stacks, lock slots, reserve empty spaces, and assign category and overflow regions. Preview the layout before sorting. Item rules let you search registry items and adjust their category, material and priority. Templates can be saved and shared through the clipboard.
Open a normal chest in singleplayer and use Sort or Edit. Undo restores the last completed sort while the same chest remains open and its sorted contents are unchanged. Quick sort is available in Minecraft’s Controls and starts unbound.
Storage placement checks (0.1.0-alpha.2)
Open Placement → Edit rule in a verified vanilla single/double chest or barrel to set a label, destination priority and acceptance selectors. Select by category, material, exact namespaced item/tag IDs, shape and variant, with exclusions. Placement uses the selected sorting template’s taxonomy overrides. Misplaced items receive coral markers and explanations; unknown classifications remain undecided with amber markers.
Review mismatches and Show waypoint to the highest-priority matching configured location. Suggestions describe configured rules only: destination contents, free space, block existence and permissions remain unverified. Take back to inventory moves one misplaced stack to an empty player slot using verified normal inventory clicks and respects locked/reserved source slots. Open the destination yourself to deposit. No automatic cross-container transfer is performed.
Rules save per world/player scope and support Copy rule / Paste rule. Moving or replacing storage can leave stale coordinates; remove or reassign those rules yourself. Moving or renaming a world changes its rule scope. Invalid, future or oversized rule files are preserved and disable placement for that world. Optional Deposit hints cover mouse deposit candidates only, not keyboard or drag paths.
Experimental alpha: Fabric for Minecraft 26.3 only. Requires Java 25, Fabric Loader 0.19.5 or newer, and Fabric API 0.162.0+26.3. Client-only, singleplayer only. Remote multiplayer sorting, placement and correction are disabled. Other Minecraft versions, loaders, shulker boxes, ender chests and unknown/modded storage are unsupported. Placement supports verified vanilla chests and barrels in integrated worlds.
Replace the older ChestOrg JAR with this version; do not install both together. The mod keeps the same chestcraft mod ID.
Sorting uses paced, verified normal inventory clicks and may take tens of seconds. Escape cancels. An interrupted sort can leave a stack on the cursor; place it manually and reopen the chest to synchronize. The mod never drops that stack automatically.
Automatic sorting, quick deposit/restock and broader container support are not included in this alpha.
