BuildBudget
Plan survival builds without a schematic. Create named projects, add materials and counts, and see what remains to gather.
Features
- Search items by name or ID; enter whole counts or stacks such as
32s. - Track live main-inventory, hotbar, and offhand availability, or enter manual totals.
- Record resources already consumed and see honest remaining requirements and deficits.
- Pin up to five material deficits in a compact HUD.
- Preview ingredient estimates using unlocked crafting recipes, with warnings for ambiguous paths.
- Share requirements using clipboard JSON or compact text; imports start with zero progress.
- Save projects locally across worlds and servers, with backups and recovery protection.
Installation
Requires Minecraft Java 26.3, Fabric Loader 0.19.5 or later, Fabric API 0.162.0+26.3, and Java 25. Install the BuildBudget jar and matching Fabric API in your profile's mods folder. This is a client-side mod; no server installation is required. This release supports only Minecraft 26.3.
Press B in a world to open Projects. The key can be changed in Options > Controls > Key Binds > BuildBudget. Create a project, choose Add item, enter requirements, and select Inventory or Manual progress. Pin HUD keeps deficits visible while playing.
What progress means
Progress represents currently available resources, not automatically detected block placement. Record consumed resources only after they leave your inventory; manual availability should also exclude them. Projects compare independently against the same inventory and do not reserve items.
Armor, nested shulker/bundle contents, crafting slots, cursor stacks, and storage containers are not counted. Ingredient estimates do not subtract raw inputs you already carry and do not choose between ambiguous recipes. Locked recipes, fuel, stonecutting, smithing, special recipes, and container-return recipes are not expanded. This is not a schematic importer or automatic crafting tool.
Local saves and release status
Projects are stored in config/buildbudget/projects.json, with a previous-save .bak. Malformed or future-format saves are preserved and open read-only.
Version 0.1.0 is an initial beta. Automated unit and game-client tests passed. Authenticated multiplayer and large modpack compatibility have not yet been verified.
