ChaosLoop Mod

ChaosLoop with the datapack built in: drop it in mods/ and every world you make is a chaos world — 35 events, ten minigames, graves, skinned mimics and walkie-talkies.

Install it and play. Nothing else to set up.

The ChaosLoop datapack is inside the mod. There is no zip to download, no world/datapacks folder to find, nothing to enable — every world you create already has all of it, and a world you already have gets it the moment you load it with the mod installed.

Fabric, Minecraft 1.20.1.

Where it runs

  • Single player — works on its own. There is a server inside your game and this is running on it.
  • Opened to LAN — works, and your friends do not need the mod. Everything it does is server side.
  • A Fabric server — put it in the server's mods/ and nobody joining needs a thing.
  • Somebody else's server — it goes quiet. No server starts on your machine, so nothing of it runs, and it cannot argue with the ChaosLoop already there.

What it is

35 chaos events on a timer, four paces, a menu to switch any of them off, and a five stage dragon curse with permanent death at the end of it.

Ten minigames — the maze, the race, spleef, the rising floor, anvil dodge, king of the hill, the last stand, hot potato, tag and the gather race. Everything you carry is held at the door and returned afterwards, and every effect you walked in with comes off, so nobody wins on kit.

Graves. Die out in the world and your things wait in a chest where you fell, with your name over it. Sneak and right-click it and it empties in one movement: best armour on, everything else in your bag, bag sorted. /graves lists every one you have left standing, in every dimension. /back returns you to where you last died, once per death, for when something has gone wrong.

Mimics. Hostile mobs wearing your friends' real faces, fetched by name — so they work on an offline server too. They dig through walls and pillar up to reach you, using the copied player's own tools, at the speed those tools would really take.

Walkie-talkies. Everybody carries one. Hold it and talk into Simple Voice Chat and everyone on your channel hears you at any distance, in any dimension. Optional: without voice chat installed the radios are still handed out, they simply carry nothing.

A wave fight with two lives each, healing between waves and a boss at the end of every one. A village to defend. A world reset that deletes and rebuilds everything on a fresh seed when you are finished with it.

Install

Drop it in mods/. Needs Fabric API. Java 17 or newer.

That is the whole install. /function chaosloop:setup picks a pace, /function chaosloop:start begins.

Notes

  • Server side. A vanilla client sees all of it: the graves are real chests, the sidebar is scoreboard packets, the mimic is a real zombie wearing a real face.
  • The optional ChaosLoop Radio client mod adds a push-to-talk key and nothing else. It is not needed.
  • Running a Paper server instead? The ChaosLoop Plugin is this same half of ChaosLoop for that server software, and it pairs with the ChaosLoop datapack as a separate download. Use one or the other, never both.
  • No third-party code is bundled in the jar, and no art.
