CaveStart

Spawn your first life in a real underground cave near world spawn, with a small escape kit and normal respawn behavior.

CaveStart — Begin Below the Surface

CaveStart changes Minecraft’s first-time spawn experience by placing new players inside a safe, naturally generated underground cave near world spawn.

The mod never digs tunnels, places blocks, or modifies terrain. It searches for a real cave that already exists and moves the player there. When a suitable location is found, the cave becomes the player’s respawn point and they receive a small one-time starter kit to help them begin their escape.

Once the player chooses a new spawn using a bed or another normal spawn change, CaveStart permanently steps away and allows Minecraft’s standard spawn system to take over.

A different beginning without changing the world.

  • First-time players begin inside a naturally generated underground cave.

  • The selected cave becomes the player’s initial respawn point.

  • A small one-time starter kit provides the essentials needed to begin escaping.

  • Beds and normal spawn-point changes remain fully respected.

  • CaveStart permanently stops affecting a player after they choose a new spawn.

  • Gradual fallback searching helps prevent freezing or large performance spikes.

  • No blocks are placed, broken, or replaced.

  • No tunnels are dug and no terrain is modified.

Starter Kit

  • Stone Pickaxe

  • Torches

  • Bread

Finds a real cave—not a manufactured room.

When a player first joins in the Overworld, CaveStart begins searching near world spawn for a safe cave that already exists.

The selected location must:

  • Be underground.

  • Be closed off from the sky.

  • Provide enough room for the player to stand safely.

  • Have a solid floor.

  • Avoid water and other liquids.

  • Avoid nearby lava.

  • Resemble a genuine cave rather than a tiny isolated air pocket.

If a suitable cave is found, the player is moved there, the location becomes their respawn point, and the one-time starter kit is provided.

If no suitable cave is available immediately, CaveStart continues searching gradually over time instead of attempting one massive search that could freeze the game.

Respawn Behavior

CaveStart respects Minecraft’s normal spawn rules.

  • Players who keep the original cave spawn will continue respawning there.

  • Setting a new spawn with a bed or another normal spawn change permanently disables CaveStart’s spawn handling for that player.

Lightweight and compatibility-friendly by design.

  • Mod loader: Forge

  • Supported Minecraft versions: 1.19.2 and 1.20.1

  • Does not place or break blocks.

  • Does not dig tunnels or generate artificial rooms.

  • Does not modify terrain or existing cave generation.

  • Does not override beds or manual spawn changes.

CaveStart simply finds an existing cave and uses it as a more interesting first spawn. Install the JAR matching your Minecraft version in the instance or server’s mods folder.
