Description

Bottled Horizons

Some moments are too beautiful—or too useful—to let them pass.

Bottled Horizons lets you capture the Overworld sky inside handcrafted, animated bottles. Save a sunrise for a journey, carry midnight into a build session, or bottle a thunderstorm until the world is ready for it.

Capture six kinds of horizon

  • Dawn — the first light of a new day
  • Daylight — clear skies and a high sun
  • Dusk — the last glow before night
  • Midnight — a deep, star-filled sky
  • Rain — a stored downpour
  • Thunder — the full fury of a storm

Every filled bottle has its own original four-frame animated texture. They are collectibles as much as they are useful tools.

Six animated horizon bottles containing dawn, daylight, dusk, midnight, rain, and thunder against a magical sky.

How it works

  1. Craft an Empty Horizon Bottle.
  2. Stand beneath the open Overworld sky and use it to capture the current horizon. Capturing costs 3 experience levels by default.
  3. Hold use on the filled bottle for 1.5 seconds. Amethyst chimes rise, magical particles gather, and the stored horizon spills across the world.

Release is intentionally a ritual rather than an instant button. Let go early and nothing is consumed.

Designed for survival

Bottled Horizons is useful without making beds, weather, or natural progression irrelevant:

  • a shared 2-minute per-player cooldown follows each release;
  • capture requires experience and direct access to the sky;
  • weather releases last 5 minutes by default;
  • the bottle returns empty and must be filled again;
  • the recipe uses copper, gold, amethyst, a clock, and a lightning rod.

A small mod with real progression

The dedicated advancement tree guides players from crafting their first vessel to the final A World in Glass challenge: holding every bottled horizon at once. Completing the collection awards 100 experience points.

Server and modpack friendly

  • Works in singleplayer and on dedicated servers
  • No required library dependencies
  • Server-authoritative time, weather, cost, and cooldown behavior
  • Configurable capture cost, release cooldown, weather duration, sky requirement, and time/weather bottle availability
  • Modpack use is welcome

The common configuration file is generated at:

config/bottled_horizons-common.toml

Compatibility

Minecraft Loader Side Java
1.21.1 NeoForge Client and server 21

The mod must be installed on both the client and the server.

FAQ

Can I use it in a modpack?
Yes. Public and private modpacks are welcome.

Does it permanently lock the weather or time?
No. It performs a normal global time or weather change. Rain and thunder use a configurable duration.

Why can I not capture or release a bottle?
By default you must be in the Overworld with a clear view of the sky. Capturing also requires 3 experience levels, and releases share a per-player cooldown.

Can server owners disable part of the mod?
Yes. Time horizons and weather horizons can be enabled independently, and the balance values are configurable.

Is this client-side only?
No. The mechanic changes the real server world, so the mod is required on both sides.
