Blockfield: Frontline

A persistent open-world war shooter for Fabric 1.20.1. One endless generated world where you scavenge, fight soldiers and other players, raid cult bunkers, survive an infection, drive cars, fly helicopters, and try to end the outbreak.

Getting started

  1. Create a new world and choose the Frontline world type.
  2. Deploy, loot, level up, and fight. There are no rounds: the war goes on around you.
  3. To jump straight to the sights, use these commands (cheats on): /blockfield map enter, then /blockfield map find washington (also new_york, boston, houston, california, bunker_complex, hospital, prison, stadium), and /blockfield map where.

Five megacities, built on real street layouts

New York, Washington D.C., Boston, Houston and California (downtown Los Angeles) each exist exactly once in the world. Their buildings, heights and street layouts come from real map data, so the streets run where the real ones do, and each city has its own look: pale stone and a strict height cap in D.C., brick in Boston, dark glass in New York, steel and industry in Houston, stucco in California. Washington has its own hand-built White House and Washington Monument. The cities are overrun by the infected and can never be cleared.

Bunkers worth the trip

  • Huge bunker complexes go four to ten levels down, with rooms rolled differently in every world: barracks, mess halls, infirmaries, armouries, command centres, vaults, power halls, detention blocks, labs, and the cult's own ritual chambers, throne room, interrogation cells, quarantine wards, hydroponics, motor pool, surveillance room, crypt and scriptorium.
  • The surface entrances are enormous blast doors with hazard striping, piston drives and warning lamps that open on their own as you approach.
  • Garrisoned, furnished room by room, and full of loot. Plus a hospital, prison, rail yard, refinery, airfield, power plant and stadium, all hand-built.

The infected

  • A bite starts a countdown: without an antidote you turn in about five minutes.
  • Spitters hit hard from range, bloaters burst, and runners and brutes hunt in packs.
  • They break doors, dig through blocks (tougher blocks take longer), and climb on each other to reach you.
  • Gunfire carries. Make noise and the roaming dead come looking for you from outside view distance.

The campaign

A satanist cult rose from the ruins. Work through its lieutenants, break into its compound, face its founder, then take the antidote to the MIT lab to synthesize a full batch, recover the president's authority key in Washington, and activate the device at the CDC to cure the world. It is tuned to need serious levels and gear, and every stage can be tested with commands (/blockfield story ...). Once the world is cured, the cult is gone for good and ordinary people repopulate the settlements.

Guns, gear and progression

  • 14 guns, including rare loot-only weapons (a rocket launcher and a rail rifle), with hand-built first-person animations, recoil, real ballistics and ADS with scopes.
  • XP and levels unlock guns. Every kill levels that gun and unlocks its attachments.
  • Four classes with perks, plus frag and smoke grenades, medic bags and sandbag kits.
  • Slide, slide-jump, bunny hop, prone, dive and lean. No stamina.
  • Finite ammunition (switchable in settings), armour, food and medicine in loot crates everywhere.

Vehicles and survival

  • Drivable cars and helicopters with fuel, damage and crashes, parked at places across the world.
  • Normal Minecraft survival still works: farm, build a base, craft. You eat automatically from your food stock, so hunger is never a chore.
  • Abandoned places are empty and make good bases.

Play together or against each other

PvP and PvE share the same world. Players are enemies unless they join the same squad (/blockfield squad ...). Optional match modes: Horde, Infected, Conquest and Team Deathmatch.

Everything is configurable

A generated settings screen (pause menu > Blockfield) covers gameplay, difficulty, AI, the warzone, HUD, controls and more. A holographic HUD, minimap and full world map (N) are included.

Requirements

Minecraft 1.20.1, Fabric Loader, Fabric API, Java 17 or newer.
