Big Barrels

Barrels hold as much as a double chest. 54 slots (6 rows) instead of 27, in a single block.

Barrels are great: they open with a block on top, they stack in any direction and they look good on a wall. They just hold too little. Big Barrels fixes that.

Features

• 54 slots per barrel, opened with the normal double-chest screen
• Configurable: 3, 4, 5 or 6 rows in config/bigbarrels.json
• Server-side only: players don't need to install anything; works on vanilla clients
• Works in singleplayer too
• Fabric and NeoForge, no Fabric API needed: a tiny mod (under 20 KB)
• Optional upgrade mode: barrels stay at 27 slots until you right-click one with a chest (you get the chest back when you break it)
• /bigbarrels reload: change the settings without restarting
• Hoppers, comparators and droppers see every slot automatically
• Existing barrels simply get more room; nothing is lost

Config

config/bigbarrels.json is created on first start:

• rows: 3 (vanilla, 27 slots) to 6 (54 slots)
• upgradeMode: true = only barrels upgraded with the upgradeItem are big
• Apply changes with /bigbarrels reload (operators). No restart needed.

Lowering the rows is safe: items that no longer fit stay stored inside the barrel (out of sight) and come back when you raise the rows again. Breaking such a barrel drops them too.

Removing the mod

Vanilla barrels have 27 slots, so anything in slots 28–54 is lost when the mod is removed. Empty the bottom rows first.
