What's new
v0.6 – The Allay Screen Update
A big one: allays are now managed from their own screen instead of by handing them items, and there are new homes, new jobs and job settings.
Allay screen
- Hold Allay Interact (Left Shift by default) and right-click your allay with an empty hand to open its screen. It stays in place while the screen is open.
- Allay tab: its picture (right-click it to pat it, or right-click it with an item on your cursor to feed it or give it the item), its job, power, favorite food, home and costume. Buttons for Follow me, Stay here and Send home.
- Rename it right in the screen (no name tag needed).
- Job page (Manage, next to its job): its tool slot, Change job (every job and the tool it needs), Work chest, and the job's settings.
- Inventory tab: its 9-slot inventory, plus its hand and helmet slots.
- Pages slide like a carousel, and every allay variant has its own colours for the screen.
- A (?) button on every page explains how everything works. Hold Shift to see tooltips.
Your allays
- Press K (rebindable) or the small allay button in your inventory to see every allay you've tamed, wherever it is: what it's doing, how far it is, and any problem (hover it to see what to do).
- Manage opens an allay's screen when it's within 24 blocks, or from any distance if it's following you (it comes over first).
- Track marks the allay on your screen through walls, from any distance. The mark goes away once you reach it. Its home and work chest can be tracked the same way.
- A message log keeps what each allay told you lately (a tool broke, its chest is full...).
- The allay heads in these screens show their hats and costumes.
Jobs rework
- Allays have a 9-slot inventory. What they gather goes there, and they take it to their work chest when it's full or when they've been idle for a few seconds.
- A working allay needs a home. It works around its work chest, or around its home before it has one. The work chest is picked in its screen (Manage > Work chest).
- Job settings for every job: work area (32/16/8), work hours (all day, mornings, afternoons), when to unload, plus each job's own options. Some jobs have a list where you mark what to do first (★) or never (✖): ores, crops, trees, wool colours, things to smelt... Modded ones show up too. Copy and Paste settings between allays.
- Tools wear out: plain tools break, and the allay takes a spare from its inventory. Enchanted tools never break: when almost broken, the allay puts them away for you to repair and takes another one.
- A job only changes when you pick another one or give it another job's tool. Changing jobs lets go of the old work chest.
New jobs
- Smelter (flint and steel): keeps the furnaces, smokers and blast furnaces around its chest smelting what's in its work chest. Choose which fuel it may burn.
- Beekeeper (glass bottle): collects honey from full beehives with bottles from its chest, or honeycomb with shears. It can stick to hives with a campfire under them.
- Rancher (lead): breeds animals with food from its chest up to a herd size you set per animal, milks cows and goats with buckets, gathers eggs, and with a sword in its chest keeps herds from growing too big (never babies, named or leashed animals).
Miner
- A miner at home now mines the ore around its home (up to 64 blocks in every direction) and takes it to its work chest.
- New settings: dig through stone to hidden ore, how far to dig, keep the stone, light the way with torches, and an ore list.
- Mines next to magma blocks, and ore up to 2 blocks under water. Glow lichen no longer blocks it.
- Ignores ore blocks placed by players.
- No more height limit in big caverns: it looks as far up and down as sideways (
minerSearchin the config). - No more rainy days off for miners.
New home: Allay Chest
- Craft a chest + Allay Door. It's a real chest (27 slots, works with hoppers, can be its allay's work chest) with a tiny room inside where one allay lives.
- The allay goes in and out through the lid, peeks out now and then, and the lantern and fairy lights inside really light up the area as the lid opens.
- Punch it to knock. Right-clicking just opens the chest.
Allay Door rework
- A new round door with animations: knocking, peeking, entering, and a lit window while someone's home.
- Place it on any side of a block, even on the floor or ceiling as a hatch.
- The door and the chest take the look of the allay living there, one theme per variant, plus an empty look. The look is kept on the item when mined with Silk Touch.
- Punch or right-click the door to knock.
Undead Allay
- Grave Guard now uses real weapons: give it a sword or a bow (no arrows needed). With 3 wither skulls it shoots wither skulls instead of the bow and keeps its sword up close.
Changes
- The plain Allay is now called the Sky Allay.
- New Allay Folks creative tab.
- Allays can't be leashed anymore. A lead is now the rancher's tool.
- The Allay Boons entry is gone from your inventory. The power is shown in the allay's screen and the "Your allays" list.
- Helmets from other mods with their own model (like fur hats) now look right on allays. A helmet protects an allay like a full set of that armor.
- When you die, your allay now calls you over so it's clear it wants to lead you back.
- Timed messages (picking a home or a work chest) now last 30 seconds.
- Fisher is now called Fisherman, and texts use simpler English.
- New config options:
smelter,beekeeper,rancher,rancherHerdSize,minerSearch.
Fixes
- The rancher no longer keeps feeding animals that can't breed yet.
- Sending a miner home now works, and a miner given its job at home starts working there.
- Allays no longer hold chunks loaded for long, which could make saving the world very slow.
