Now with Wuppy29's Peaceful Pack!
akkamaddi originally created this mod, which adds four utility crops. He could no longer maintain it, and gave permission for anyone to port his code here and here. I originally included it in my akkamaddi's Additions project, but it is entirely independent of Simple Ores 2, so I decided to move it to a separate project. As of Ashenwheat for Minecraft 1.18.2, I have added my favorite features from Wuppy29's PeacefulPack mod--it was an old mod from around Minecraft 1.5.2 or 1.6.4 or so that provided resource plants and other stuff for people that wanted to play on peaceful mode, but still needed some mob drops.
Fortunately, Wuppy29 left his source code on GitHub with an LGPL 3.0 license, making it legal to port/import/assimilate. See wiki for details.
I ported "Ashenwheat" to 1.7.10. akkamaddi's original documentation is below. Thanks to TheOldOne822, we were able to add MFR planter and harvester compatibility to the mod. I have also ported this mod to 1.8.9 through 1.11; however, as of this writing, there is no MFR for 1.8.9 or later, so there is no MFR compatibility in Ashenwheat for 1.8.9 and later.
The latest versions of the 1.10.2 and 1.11 ports require McJty's CompatLayer library as well.
The 1.14.4 and 1.15.2 versions are completely standalone.
Note: versions 1.16.5-4.4.4.0 and later require SimpleCoreLib.

This a small farming mod, adding four utility crops: Ashenwheat (a fuel, and can make charcoal), Ossidroot (can make Bonemeal), Thundergrass (can make gunpowder), and Scintillawheat (can make Glowstone Dust). For those that use Forestry, Calcified Ash (smelted Ossid Root) is regsitered as "dustAsh" to the Ore Dictionary, and should work as Ash in that mod's recipes.
Ashenwheat was actually one of the first mods akkamaddi attempted, though there were minor setbacks, and his focus was diverted to Simple Ores. It is now finished, and at a point where it could grow.
Ashenwheat adds four "utility crops" to Minecraft.
Ashenwheat - The namesake of the mod. This is a dark, sulphurous strain of wheat that literally emits burning embers. It glows from internal heat. While slower-growing than normal wheat, it can be used to make hay bales and bread, and even cookies! All Ashenwheat products will burn as fuel in any furnace which accepts standard fuel, and Ashenbread will smelt into charcoal.
Ossidroot - This strange plant has a large, hard, bulbous, inedible root that looks vaguely like a skull. A torch can be set in the base to make an Ossid Lantern, similar to a Jack-O-Lantern, while a fresh Ossid Root can be smelted to Calcified Ash, which makes Bonemeal. Ossidroot grows a little slower than Ashenwheat. Ossidroot plants, and the Lanters, emit an ominous gloom.
Thundergrass - This thick, wiry grass produces more seeds when dried. The seeds can be smelted small lumps of Unstable Soot, which can then be crafted into Gunpowder. Thundergrass grows a little slower than Ashenwheat. Thundergrass glows slightly, and smokes from internal heat.
Scintillawheat - Scintillawheat is a rare and slow-growing wheat. It glows brighter than Ashenwheat, and shimmers even in the sun. It can be used to make hay bales and bread, and even cookies. Scintillawheat bales can be smelted to produce Scintillating Ash, which can be crafted into Glowstone Dust.

Licensing
All I ask it some degree of attribution if you use my code. -- akkamaddi
Given that condition, I deem a CC-By 4.0 license to be appropriate for akkamaddi's original code, with akkamaddi as the original creator.
All of my derived work, from Ashenwheat 1.7.10-1.2.0 later, I have re-licensed under LGPL 3.0.
There is a mod called Industrial Foregoing, which is actually remake of MFR and that mod started with Minecraft version 1.11.2.
It could be nice, if you could add that planter/harvester compatibility for Industrial Foregoing.
Can you tag this to depend on SimpleCore API?
Oops. Thought I did that. Fixed.
So, the post below is my mistake. Pam's Harvestcraft interacts with modded crops, which act as "vanilla" crops.
If you use Harvestcraft, right-click harvest will work with these crops. Harvestcraft has a config file where much of this behavior can be changed. Harvestcraft's right-click harvest returns the crop to the seedling stage rather than destroying the plant, so it's a rather nice feature.
By the default settings, with Harvestcraft's default settings, Ashenwheat, Scintillawheat, and Ossidroot will produce one crop item. (It seems the occasional "extra crop" still works.) Producing seeds from the right-click harvest is disabled. Disabling seeds is the big change, which causes problems with Thundergrass. Since Thundergrass does not have a crop item and only drops more seeds, but dropping seeds is disabled, by default Thundergrass drops nothing when right-clicked. (In my experimenting, apparently it can if the plant has not been harvested before and you have space in your tool bar, but once your tool bar is full that plant will not work with right-click again.)
So, either right-click harvest can be disabled, or you have to left-click and break Thundergrass to harvest it, and therefore re-plant it.
For the other crops, this slows down gathering wheat seeds. When I originally created these crops (and again a big thank you to Sinhika for carrying this on), I always thought the drop rates for seeds when harvesting should be very low, and that one should be able to convert a wheat bundle to multiple seeds. (Wheat is literally grass seeds.) So, for the three other crops, just convert the harvest good to more seeds, as would be realistic, and just as is done with melons and pumpkins.
[-EDIT-] The issue seems to have been something flaky with my save file. It is not an issue with the mod. My apologies for not testing more thoroughly.
Hello,
I've noticed that Thundergrass is not dropping anything when harvested. (No thunderseeds or anything else.)
Is there anything I could check on my end? Might it be something in the code?
Thank you.
Which version? I don't maintain anything older than 1.16.5 these days. Too much changes between dev environments to keep it all straight in my head.
Also, did you test with ONLY Ashenwheat & stuff like JEI loaded? Another mod might be interfering with harvest. Will check after work.
With the latest versions of Ashenwheat, SimpleCoreLib, and Forge 36.1.65, I cannot duplicate the bug. Can you give me some information on what versions you are using, and what other mods?
In reply to Sinhika:
Hello,
Sorry, I just got home. I'm running 1.16.5. I can't find a log that lists the mods, so:
Aesthetics-1.16.5-1.10.4.1
ArsenicAndLace-1.16.5-2.0.3.1
Ashenwheat-1.16.5-4.4.4.0
ClassicalAlchemy-1.16.5-2.0.1.1
CookingForBlockheads_1.16.5-9.3.3
Cthon-1.16.5-2.0.0.1
Fusion-1.16.5-2.7.4.2
GoldenGlitter-1.16.5-2.0.0.0
HaditeCoal-1.16.5-2.4.5.1
Machines-1.16.5-1.7.5.2
mining_dimension-1.16.5-1.0.5
Netherrocks-1.16.5-2.3.6.1
OnlySilver-1.16.5-3.2.5.0
pamhc2crops-1.16.3-1.0.2
pamhc2foodcore-1.16.3-1.0.2
pamhc2foodextended-1.16.3-1.0.2
pamhc2trees-1.16.3-1.0.1
SimpleCobalt-1.16.5-2.0.0.0
SimpleCoreLib-1.16.5-2.0.8.9
SimpleOres2-1.16.5-2.4.7.2
SimpleTungsten-1.16.5-2.3.5.1
SterlingAndBlack-1.16.5-2.2.4.1
So, this is odd and a little embarrassing, though confusing. I tried with just Ashenwheat and SimpleCoreLib, and it worked. I added Harvestcraft and Mining Dimension, and it worked. I added all your mods... and it worked? I loaded my game and slipped into creative to get some bone meal, aged the thundergrass, then slipped back into survival... and it worked.
I set up my game Friday evening. Sunday morning i saw you added a few more, and I wanted Cobalt, so I added the rest. Because I've already explored, I just deleted my game and re-started the same seed. (I rebuilt the little I did on my base in creative mode in about an hour, so it's all good.) I was trying to expand my garden a bit, and I noticed that after harvesting I was not getting thundergrass seeds. I slipped into creative mode to test yesterday evening, and confirmed the issue.
And now that I've restarted without the mods and re-added them, it's suddenly working. (I did not load my saved game without mods. I was making new worlds to test.)
The only thing I can think is that perhaps when I added Cthon, Cobalt, and Glitter, and it build the block/item ID tables, something went wrong? But I started a new game...
I don't know. It is fixed, and I feel bad for bothering you. I will edit the main post so it doesn't look like there is a problem with your mod.
Perhaps there was a stray enderman who was stealing my seeds? :-) Thank you for your help, and I"m sorry for not doing more debugging first.
Thank you for porting my old mod. It's really touching to see that my old work was considered of value. :-)
With all sincerity, thank you.

You're welcome! A lot of people seem to feel it is of use.
these crops seem like they would really fit the nether. have you ever thought about making them generate there, and maybe adding netherrack farmland to plant by lava instead of water?
In reply to nixity_null:
Shouldn't it be soul soil farmland?
In reply to 593shaun:
same difference, the material used for farmland doesn't matter.
how do you get this godly seed in survival?
In reply to bruhdast:
By default, all except scintilla wheat seeds can be found by breaking grass, like you do for wheat seeds. All four seeds, including scintilla wheat, have a chance of turning up in village chests, mineshaft chests, dungeon chests, and temple chests. Ashenwheat stuff can turn up in igloo chests.
The defaults can be changed in the config file.
In reply to Sinhika:
thanks! definitively putting this in my (personal) modpack now
i literally squealed with giddy joy when i saw that this has been ported to 1.14/1.15. THANK YOU! i used it in 1.12 but now i'm running a 1.14 server and was bummed i'd have to make my server without this mod. i'm so excited to get to share it with my friends! GROW YOUR OWN EXPLOSIVES!!!!
You're very much welcome! I'm always glad to see someone enjoy my work :-)
In reply to Sinhika:
love this mod so much! the only hangup i'm having is that it seems to conflict with optifine. game starts fine with optifine, if i deactivate ashenwheat, but if i install ashenwheat the launcher crashes mid-launch. if i remove optifine, game starts fine with ashenwheat. so it seems to be fine with one or the other, but not both. :(
running MC 1.14 on Forge 28.2.23 with optifine 1.14.4 HD u F5.
That sounds like an Optifine problem. I am sorry, but I am not supporting Optifine. Optifine and Forge do not always play well together, because Optifine is a closed-source mod that changes Minecraft internals. Because of that, the Forge team will not support Optifine issues, and neither will most mod devs.
