AdrenalineSystem is a universal Forge mod for Minecraft 1.20.1, built to run on both the client and server.
Designed to be used alongside my other projects TitleSystem, and AuraSystem.
Audio-heavy modpacks may need volume tuning through the
in-game config screen or config file / change Minecrafts "voice" volume setting
AdrenalineSystem transforms survival.
It is an immersive hardcore realism mod that adds heartbeat, breathing, male and female voice effects, stamina, and progression systems that control how your character reacts to what is happening around them.
Hostile mobs can trigger a pounding heartbeat. Sudden threats can startle you. Sprinting is limited by stamina, heavy armor wears you down faster, and exhaustion can leave you vulnerable when you need to escape.
The longer you survive, the greater your Stamina becomes. The more enemies you defeat, the stronger your Nerve becomes. Over time, your character builds endurance, confidence, and control.
Your progression is split between two independent systems:
Stamina - Earned by surviving. Increases sprint endurance and improves recovery.
Nerve - Earned by killing hostile mobs. Makes your heartbeat less sensitive to distant and less immediate threats.
Both progress through five tiers:
Mortal -> Proven -> Valiant -> Renowned -> Glorious
To completely earn a tier, you must reach it in both Stamina and Nerve. Each track still provides its benefits independently, so a fighter may have greater Nerve while an experienced survivor may have superior Stamina.
By default, progression resets on death, making every life matter. This behavior can be changed through the config.
Looking at a hostile mob can trigger a heartbeat. If a threat is close or sudden, your character can be startled.
Supported threats currently include:
Zombies
Skeleton mobs
Creepers
Endermen
Ender Dragon
As your Nerve increases, your heartbeat becomes less sensitive to distant and less immediate threats.
AdrenalineSystem includes male and female voice profiles.
Sudden close threats can trigger startled reactions. There are also voice sounds for exhaustion and heavy exhaustion, along with breathing sounds while drawing and releasing a bow.
Adrenaline character voice sounds use Minecraft's Voice sound category. If weather or ambience is too loud, lower Weather or raise Voice in Minecraft's sound settings.
Available voice profiles, [change in the in-game config menu or file]
female
male
The default voice profile is female.
How long you can sprint depends on your progression tier and how much armor you are wearing. Heavier armor reduces your available sprint time.
Stamina and Nerve have five tiers:
Mortal
Proven
Valiant
Renowned
Glorious
Stamina progression is based on survival time.
The longer you stay alive, the more endurance you gain.
SPRINT DURATION
+----------+------------+------------+------------------+----------------+
| Tier No armor Low armor Medium armor Full armor
+----------+------------+------------+------------------+----------------+
| Mortal | 35s 28s 23s 15s
| Proven | 50s 42s 35s 28s
| Valiant | 70s 60s 52s 45s
| Renowned | 95s 82s 72s 62s
| Glorious | 125s 110s 98s 85s
+----------+------------+------------+------------------+----------------+
When your initial sprint is fully used, an exhaustion sound plays and sprinting stops.
During the normal cooldown, you have an optional 6 seconds of recovery sprint.
If you use that recovery sprint before the normal cooldown ends, heavy exhaustion triggers and the cooldown is reset to the heavy exhaustion cooldown.
STAMINA RECOVERY
+--------+-----------------------+--------------------+-----------------------------------+
| Tier Normal cooldown Recovery sprint Heavy exhaustion cooldown
+--------+-----------------------+--------------------+-----------------------------------+
| Mortal | 16s 6s 18s
| Proven | 14s 6s 16s
| Valiant | 12s 6s 14s
| Renowned | 10s 6s 11s
| Glorious | 9s 6s 9s
+--------+-----------------------+--------------------+-----------------------------------+
Nerve progression is based on hostile kills.
As your Nerve tier increases, heartbeat reactions become less sensitive. Distant or less immediate threats stop causing the same reaction they did when you were inexperienced.
The more hostile mobs you defeat, the more composed your character becomes around danger.
AdrenalineSystem tracks two main forms of progression:
+----------+--------------------+---------------------------+
| Tier Stamina Nerve
+----------+--------------------+---------------------------+
| Mortal | Starting tier Starting tier
| Proven | Survive 30 days Kill 100 hostile mobs
| Valiant | Survive 75 days Kill 300 hostile mobs
| Renowned | Survive 150 days Kill 750 hostile mobs
| Glorious | Survive 300 days Kill 1500 hostile mobs
+----------+--------------------+---------------------------+
Stamina and Nerve are separate tracks.
To fully earn a named tier, you must reach that tier on both tracks. If one track is ahead, you still keep its benefits, but your overall progression is not complete for that tier until the other track catches up.
Stamina
Earned through survival time. Improves sprint endurance and recovery.
Nerve
Earned through hostile kills. Makes your heartbeat less sensitive over time.
Status toasts are used to announce when you rank up.
By default, progression resets when you die. This can be changed in the config.
On your first night, everything feels dangerous.
A zombie moving through the grass can send your heartbeat racing. A skeleton watching from the edge of the trees is enough to put you on alert.
You cannot sprint forever, and covering yourself in heavy armor comes with a price.
You are Mortal.
Survive long enough. Fight enough monsters.
You adapt.
You survive.
You are Proven.
Now, chase Glory.
AdrenalineSystem
When I return to AdrenalineSystem I want to spend more time actually experiencing it in-game and figuring out what works, what is annoying, what should be removed, and what should be added.
Breath effects when the mod's breath sounds are triggered, like visible cold breath, would be a cool feature to explore.
I’ve also considered a stamina bar so you can accurately see how much sprint you have, however it would be optional because I like the realism of not really knowing and instead feeling your character grow stronger and gain more stamina, might add a reaching exhaustion panting sound for when you're close to exhaustion instead.
This project has been kind of a vibe code so I am not sure how itll actually hold up in a long term world, but its been one of the most enjoyable to make and for that reason the next major update for this project will be refreshing and improved.
