Adaptive Mob Spawning

Mobs don't spawn everywhere, now they spawn next to you 😘

Adaptive Mob Spawning

by la_lime_ace

Tired of clearing out a cave for twenty minutes only to have a zombie spawn directly behind you the second you turn around? Yeah. Us too. So we fixed it. Sort of. Or made it worse.

What this does

This mod makes mob spawning adaptive — mobs try to spawn in the same zone you're currently occupying, instead of rolling dice across the entire loaded world like some cosmic slot machine that only pays out three chunks away from where anything is happening.

The world is split into 4 zones:

  • 🪨 Deepslate — the deep, dark, "why did I come down here" layer
  • ⛰️ Stone — your standard cave-and-cobblestone middle ground
  • 🌊 Ocean — wet, cold, and full of things that want to drown you
  • ☀️ Surface — grass, sun, and mild existential dread

Whatever zone you're standing in is where the game will prefer to spawn mobs. Mining in the deepslate layer? Expect deepslate-appropriate company. Sunbathing on the surface? The mod isn't going to rudely interrupt you with something from three biomes over.

How it actually works

Every time the game attempts to spawn a mob, this mod checks the attempt's position and asks one simple question:

"Is this a good spot, relative to the player?"

If the answer is yes — the spawn goes through like normal.
If the answer is no — the mob quietly gives up and doesn't spawn. No mob, no drama, no compensation prize.

Side effects (a.k.a. the fine print)

Because failed attempts just... fail, instead of retrying somewhere else, this has a couple of natural consequences:

  • 📉 Fewer mobs spawn overall. The world isn't secretly crawling with mobs you never see anymore — a lot of those "wasted" spawns simply stop happening.
  • 📈 More mobs spawn near you. The ones that do spawn are far more likely to be relevant to your immediate life choices.

In short: quality over quantity. Your loaded chunks get quieter, your personal space gets spicier. It's basically a trade-off between "peaceful exploring" and "why is there suddenly a creeper committee meeting six blocks away."

But if you want more mobs, you little masochist, I have exactly what you need "Spawn More Mobs"

Configuration

Don't like the defaults? There's a config file for that. Tune zone boundaries, spawn-check leniency, and general chaos levels to taste. Whether you want a near-death experience every ten seconds or a gentle ambient threat level, the knobs are all there.

Sadly the configuration need to keep in mind the vanilla rule because I don't how to change those.

No mobs were harmed in the making of this mod. Several were, however, denied the chance to exist. We're told this is fine.

Feel free to use or leave a comment 😁
