Step through a shimmering portal and leave the familiar behind. The Glimmerwild is a glittering dimension of rainbow meadows, floating islands, glowing cliffs and magic-infused seas. But don't be fooled. It is not a gentle place. Where the light fails, the land turns grey, and what lives in the Shadowwound does not want you there.

Where it comes from

Across the Glimmerwild is derived from a tabletop RPG campaign setting we play and have been building for a long time. The dimension, its inhabitants, and its dangers and lore are an adaptation for Minecraft.

The Lore

Aeons ago, a magical, technologically advanced civilisation, the Vorathi, ruled the Overworld. They are long dead now. Only ruins remain near huge, black obsidian obelisks scattered around the land. Those structures were ancient when that old civilisation found them, and nobody knows who raised them. Some of them are still guarded by ancient beasts; others are fallen - all waiting to be rediscovered.

One of the Vorathi scientists, a brilliant mind scared of the downfall of his home, tried to rekindle the old obsidian structures and use them as grand protectors. His grand experiment failed. The obelisk fell. Unbeknownst to anyone, the unbridled power created a hidden pocket plane: a small dimension wedged between the planes.

The new dimension swallowed the colours of the Nether and the beauty of the End and became the Glimmerwild, also called Isora. By day it glitters. But darker powers lurk in the shadows.

The Portals

Overworld Portal Shape

You can get to the Glimmerwild by building a 7x7 Obsidian (O) circle with an Amethyst keystone (A) on the floor like this:

  OAO
 O O
O O
O O
O O
 O O
  OOO

Make sure the inside is air, and place the Amethyst-Block last.

The Shadowwound

The Shadowwound BiomeThose obelisks were never just gateways. They were built as the first anchors, ancient seals that created a cross-dimensional prison to bind something terrible. When the obelisk fell, the anchors weakened, and the prisoner noticed.

The Shadowwounds are its attempt to break free and into our world. Over time, bit by bit, it gnawed at them until it could seep through the cracks into our world: dark purple, lifeless scars on the landscape mark its arrival. Colours fade, plants wither, and creatures that dwell near it turn into something even more evil. The corruption of the wound grows if left alone, and every anchor that falls to it brings its master closer to freedom.

The Yaronis

Among other peoples, the Glimmerwild is home to the Yaronis, a small yarn-folk who live in colourful cottages. They are a new kind of villagers: traders and craftspeople who have learned to live with the Shadowwound.

The Protectors

The Yaronis do not stand alone. Two orders watch over them and the land:

  • the Klanghirten, shepherds of sound, who guard the living places and can stop the spread of the Shadowwound,
  • the Echowatch, who protect the realm from everything that crawls out of the darkness.

Whether you will stand with them or not is up to you.

What's in the pack

Across the Glimmerwild is a WorldWeaver (wover) pack. It contains no code. Everything is defined in JSON data files, read by vanilla Minecraft or processed by WorldWeaver.

  • Blocks and items: new stones, glowing and glittering materials, plants and wood types (with full wood sets), ores, and more.
  • Portals: the way into and out of the Glimmerwild.
  • Custom villagers: the Yaronis, with their own look, homes and trades.
  • The dimension itself: a full set of biomes together with the generative rules that shape them, from terrain and floating islands to structures, villages, vegetation and mob spawning.

Requirements: WorldWeaver, required on both the server and the client.

Early concept

Floating Islands Please treat this as an early concept. There is a lot of refinement ahead: balancing, polish, rough edges and a lot of missing pieces. We expect bugs, and we expect things to change (so yes, updates might introduce visible seams in the Glimmerwild). The pack will keep receiving new content in continuous development, so check back often.

We also plan to extend Across the Glimmerwild into a story pack powered by an upcoming WorldWeaver Module. It will feature unique adventures and quests as well as deeper lore to uncover as you explore the dimension and its secrets and persistent NPCs.

License and modpacks

Across the Glimmerwild is All Rights Reserved. You are welcome to include the unmodified mod, as published here, in modpacks and server packs, and to use it on servers, including commercial ones. Streamers and video makers are free to show it, monetized or not, no need to ask. Please do not re-upload it elsewhere, with or without changes, and do not extract or reuse its content in other projects without our permission.

A note on AI

We use AI for tooling, proofreading, comment generation and boilerplate tasks. The ideas, the world and the lore are human crafted: they come from our tabletop campaign and from the people who play and love it.
