⛏️ Vein Miner by PeakMC6725
💎 Mine Smarter. Mine Faster. Mine More.
Tired of mining ores one block at a time? Wish you could collect an entire connected ore vein without breaking every single block manually? Vein Miner by PeakMC6725 makes mining more convenient by allowing you to mine multiple connected ore blocks with a single activation!
Designed for Minecraft Java Edition, this datapack adds a convenient vein-mining mechanic while keeping the familiar vanilla mining experience. Find an ore vein, hold Shift, mine a supported ore, and let Vein Miner handle the connected blocks for you.
Whether you're exploring caves, mining deep underground, collecting resources for large builds, or preparing materials for your next survival project, Vein Miner helps reduce repetitive mining and makes resource gathering smoother.
✨ Features
⛏️ 1. Connected Ore Vein Mining
Mine multiple connected ore blocks in one activation instead of breaking every block individually.
-
Detects connected blocks belonging to the same ore family.
-
Supports normal and deepslate variants of the same ore family connecting to each other.
-
Different ore families remain separate.
-
Mining an iron ore vein will not automatically mine nearby gold, coal, or diamond ore.
-
Works with naturally generated ore blocks and manually placed ore blocks, according to the code audit.
Important connection rule: Ore blocks must touch face-to-face. Blocks touching only at an edge or corner do not count as connected. This means diagonally connected ores may remain unmined.
🖐️ 2. Simple Shift Activation
Vein Miner is designed to activate when you hold Shift while mining a supported ore with a suitable pickaxe.
The default activation method is straightforward:
-
Find a supported ore vein.
-
Hold Shift.
-
Mine one of the connected ore blocks.
-
Vein Miner attempts to mine the remaining connected ores within the configured limit.
The datapack also remembers the targeted block briefly, so releasing Shift just before the block breaks may still activate the mechanic.
🔄 3. Optional Always-On Mode
Prefer not to hold Shift every time you mine?
The datapack includes an optional always-on mode that allows vein mining without requiring Shift for each activation.
Players can use the datapack's mode toggle, while the included control functions provide additional options. Exact command usage should be checked against the included functions before publishing command examples.
📏 4. Configurable Vein Size
Control how many connected ore blocks can be mined during a single activation.
-
Default limit: 32 blocks.
-
Maximum configurable limit: 64 blocks.
-
Minimum configurable limit: 1 block.
-
The original block you mine counts toward the limit.
For example, with the default limit of 32, the activation can affect up to 32 ore blocks in total, including the original block—not 32 additional blocks.
An operator can adjust the limit using the datapack's configuration functionality. The code audit found that the limit is clamped to the supported range when the relevant configuration logic runs.
The limit helps prevent enormous ore clusters from being mined all at once.
🍀 5. Fortune Enchantment Support
Use your Fortune-enchanted pickaxe while vein mining!
According to the code audit, additional ore blocks are processed using the game's loot system with the player's main-hand tool. This is designed to preserve Fortune's effect on the drops from each mined block.
You can therefore use Fortune for resource gathering without intentionally giving up the enchantment's intended loot behavior.
🪄 6. Silk Touch Support
Prefer collecting ore blocks themselves instead of their usual drops?
Vein Miner is designed to support Silk Touch as well.
The audit found that the datapack processes additional blocks using the player's actual tool and skips its own bonus XP handling when Silk Touch is present, matching the intended vanilla behavior.
You can choose between Fortune and Silk Touch according to your mining goals.
🪨 7. Vanilla Ore Support
Vein Miner is designed for vanilla Minecraft ore blocks.
It recognizes supported ore block IDs and groups normal and deepslate variants into the same ore family where applicable.
However, modded ores are not supported by the current implementation. Adding a modded ore would require appropriate support in the datapack.
🧱 8. Naturally Generated and Manually Placed Ores
Vein Miner identifies supported blocks by their block IDs rather than checking how they were created.
Consequently, the logic is designed to work with both naturally generated ores and manually placed supported ore blocks.
Straight-line and L-shaped veins are supported when the blocks are face-connected. Diagonal-only arrangements are not treated as one continuous vein.
🛠️ 9. Pickaxe and Mining Requirements
Vein Miner uses pickaxe and mining-related checks to determine whether the mechanic should activate.
The audit indicates that the tool must be a supported vanilla-tier pickaxe with a sufficient mining tier for the target ore.
Creative-mode activation was not confirmed by the audit and should not be assumed to work.

📥 Installation Guide
Installing in an Existing World
-
Download the ZIP file matching your Minecraft Java Edition version.
-
Open the folder containing your Minecraft world.
-
Locate the world's datapacks folder.
-
Place the downloaded ZIP file directly inside that folder.
-
Do not extract the ZIP file.
-
Load the world or run /reload if necessary.
-
Check that the datapack loads without errors.
Installing in a New World
-
Download the appropriate Vein Miner ZIP.
-
Create or locate your Minecraft world.
-
Place the ZIP in the world's datapacks folder.
-
Start the world and verify that the datapack is enabled.
If the datapack does not load, check that the ZIP has the correct structure, that pack.mcmeta is at the archive root, and that the file matches your Minecraft version.
⚙️ Configuration and Administrative Controls
Vein Miner includes configuration functionality for operators.
The audited implementation includes:
-
A configurable maximum vein size.
-
A default limit of 32 blocks.
-
A supported maximum of 64 blocks.
-
A minimum limit of 1 block.
-
A mode-toggle mechanism for optional always-on operation.
-
Functions for enabling and disabling the mechanic.
-
A server-wide disable option for operators.
The configuration code clamps the limit when its validation logic runs. Administrators should use the datapack's supplied configuration functions rather than changing scoreboard values manually.
Command reference: Consult the included function files for exact command names, permissions, and syntax before using or documenting individual commands.
⚠️ Known Limitations
Please keep the following behavior in mind:
-
Face-connected blocks only: Ore blocks that touch only diagonally are not connected for vein-mining purposes.
-
Vanilla ores only: Modded ore blocks are not supported by the current implementation.
-
Vein-size limit: The default is 32 blocks, with a configurable maximum of 64.
-
Suitable pickaxe required: The tool must meet the datapack's pickaxe and mining-tier requirements.
-
Different ore families remain separate: A vein of one ore type will not automatically include another type.
-
Creative mode: Activation in Creative mode has not been verified.
-
Durability behavior: The audit identified a possible limitation involving extra durability costs and Unbreaking. Durability behavior should be tested in-game before making specific claims about enchantment interactions.
-
Large simultaneous activations: The audit identified a possible risk of command-chain limits affecting multiple players mining large veins simultaneously. This has not been verified in-game.
🧩 Minecraft Version Compatibility
Choose the ZIP intended for your Minecraft Java Edition version.
File 1: Minecraft Java 1.21.8–1.21.11
This file uses pack-format metadata intended for the 1.21.8–1.21.11 release range.
File 2: Minecraft Java 26.1–26.3
This file uses version-specific metadata and an overlay intended to handle the relevant syntax changes for 26.3.
The code audit found that the shared files are identical between the two ZIPs, apart from pack.mcmeta and the 26.3 overlay.
Compatibility note: The audit checked the code, JSON, function references, paths, metadata, and version-specific syntax. It did not test every release in Minecraft itself. The 26.3 syntax path and compatibility across all listed versions should be verified in-game before claiming complete compatibility.
