OldCombatMechanics v2.8.0
What's new
2.8.0 (2026-10-26)
This release requires Paper or a compatible fork and adds projectile launch options, golden apple cooldown indicators and improved damage tooltips, alongside combat and compatibility fixes.
Breaking compatibility change
- Paper or a compatible fork is now required. Plain Spigot and CraftBukkit are no longer supported and the plugin stops with an explanatory message before loading combat modules. The Minecraft support range remains 1.9 to latest, with Paper 1.9.4 used for the 1.9 family. Folia support is not included.
Features and configuration
- Added three independently selectable projectile modules:
old-projectile-trajectoryrestores legacy launch trajectories,projectile-shoot-offsetrestores legacy launch positions, andrelative-projectile-velocityremoves inherited shooter movement. All three are disabled by default. Enabledold-potion-throwingcontinues to control splash-potion launches independently. Unsupported servers preserve native launches; the launch-position fallback may approximate the first collision. - Added
projectile-launch.custom-bowsfor additional native bow materials registered by server forks. Vanilla bows remain eligible, and the setting does not turn other items into bows. #970. - Added optional golden apple cooldown overlays through
old-golden-apples.cooldown.show-item-cooldown, disabled by default. On supported servers with separate normal and enchanted apple materials, the native indicator shows the remaining cooldown and prevents eating that apple type until it expires. #966. - Tool damage tooltips can now show the configured damage in the native attack-damage line on supported Paper versions, without changing combat attributes.
old-tool-damage.tooltip.enabledcontrols both native display and lore;tooltip.native-attributeselects the native display where available. Custom attribute components retain their existing display and use the lore fallback. #962. - Added independent Paper sword-blocking reduction settings,
sword-blocking.generalDamageReductionAmountandgeneralDamageReductionPercentage. Each omitted setting inherits its shield counterpart; actual shields and the legacy temporary-shield fallback retain their existing settings. #975.
Fixes
- Fixed incorrect melee and critical-hit damage on newer Paper builds, including 26.3, when the server resets attack cooldown before damage is processed.
- Corrected stronger repeated hits during damage immunity on newer Paper, including armour and absorption calculations, while preserving other plugins' damage adjustments.
- Fixed
old-armour-durabilityapplying ordinary-hit armour wear to explosions reported as custom damage on newer Paper. Explosions retain native armour wear, while ordinary hits still use the configured reduction. - Fixed repeated player-attributed custom damage, such as
/damage ... by <player>, incorrectly increasing when the damage type bypasses hit immunity. Custom damage also retains its supplied amount instead of being recalculated as a weapon attack. #968. - Fixed fractional potion durations being truncated to whole seconds. Durations now retain fractional seconds and round to the nearest game tick. #973.
- Corrected blocking calculations for fractional damage and prevented OCM's tiny fishing and projectile knockback hits from being amplified by blocking.
- Corrected fishing-rod knockback direction and strength, prevented duplicate melee knockback, and preserved cancellation by other plugins.
- Restored legacy arrow base knockback where the server exposes the required knockback events, while preserving native Punch enchantment effects. Older servers without those events retain native arrow knockback.
- Corrected configured health-regeneration intervals and exhaustion handling, while preserving other plugins' changes to regeneration rates and healing events.
- Fixed temporary sword-blocking shields remaining after a reload disables the feature, without replacing unrelated offhand items.
- Fixed Paper sword blocking falling back unnecessarily when public item APIs work but internal compatibility code is unavailable. This addresses a related compatibility problem identified during #976; the reported resource-pack visual glitch remains unverified.
Compatibility
- Unrelated combat modules now remain available if PacketEvents fails. Warnings identify affected attack-sound suppression, sweep-particle suppression or sword client detection.
- Fishing-hook gravity and hooked targets now use available public APIs, retaining older-server fallbacks and the existing scheduled gravity correction.
- Known legacy limitations remain: on Paper 1.12, attacks triggered inside another damage handler and synthetic damage events can confuse attack-cooldown tracking. Paper 1.9.4 also retains known same-tick cooldown and potion-affected sword-sweep inaccuracies.
