Wilderness & Expedition: Survival Overhaul (Masterpiece Edition)
Pack your cart. Pitch your camp. Survive the dark.
The wilderness does not forgive. Your cart spills its cargo on a steep turn, the ceiling groans when you mine too deep, damp gas hides in the dark, and one torch in the wrong cave can set off a chain of explosions. Now you have handcarts and cargo rafts, tents and portable workbenches, working wolves, ropes and climbing gear, and real field medicine to fight back. 🏕️🐺⛏️🌿

The live HUD 📟
A status line is always shown above your hotbar:
[ Clear | Air OK | Camp Stable | Guarding | Healthy ]
[ Rain | Toxic Gas | Exposed | No Pet | FRACTURE ]
It shows the weather where you stand (Clear, Rain, Storm, Sheltered), your air quality (Air OK, Stale Air, Toxic Gas, Filtered), your camp (Camp Stable, Exposed, No Camp), your pet status (No Pet, Free, Guarding, Hunting, Packing, Livestock Sick) and your condition (Healthy, Fracture, Bleeding, Downed). While you hold the Surveyor's Compass, the HUD shows your waypoint instead.
Nomadic logistics 🛒
Handcarts
- Place the cart on the ground. It holds 54 slots.
- Hitch: sneak and hit it with an empty hand. If you are riding a horse, it hitches to the horse. Do it again to unhitch.
- It trails about 2 blocks behind you and unhitches if you get more than 14 blocks away.
- Stability: sharp turns at speed and steep drops make it wobble. After a few wobbles it spills cargo, and a fuller cart spills more often. The iron cart is steadier than the wooden one.
- Dismantle: sneak and hit it with any axe. You get the cart back and the contents spill out.
Cargo rafts
Use the raft on water or ground to place it. It holds 27 slots and carries two riders. It moves toward where you look, and sneaking stops it. Dismantle it the same way as a cart.
Pack animals
Tamed mules, donkeys and llamas near you keep their chest sorted automatically while you travel.
Tents, toolkits and cooking
| Item | What it does |
|---|---|
| Canvas Tent | Within 4 blocks you are sheltered from rain, and placing it sets your spawn point. Sneak next to it to set your spawn again |
| Portable Crafting, Smelter and Anvil | Place the roll to get the real block. Break the block and it folds back into the roll |
| Drying Rack | Holds 4 raw meats. Over a lit campfire it makes Jerky in about 1 minute (about 4 minutes without a fire) |
| Cooking Spit | Holds 6 items. Over a lit campfire it roasts raw meat in about 30 seconds. A bowl plus 2 vegetables or mushrooms makes rabbit stew |
| Waystone | Place it and name it. Use the Surveyor's Compass to pick a waystone and follow the arrow |
Put a lit campfire directly under a rack or spit. Jerky is a strong, filling food.
Working pets 🐺
Use the Dog Whistle to command all your tamed wolves within 32 blocks:
| Stance | What it does |
|---|---|
| Follow / Free | Normal wolf behavior |
| Guard Camp | Stays within 10 blocks of where you set it. Creepers, skeletons, strays, witches and endermen within 16 blocks get an angry marker and a growl |
| Tracker / Hunt | Brings dropped items to you and chases animals you wounded |
| Pack Carrier | Fit a Pack Dog Vest by using it on the wolf. A 6-slot pack follows the wolf, and you open it by right-clicking it. If the wolf dies, the contents spill |
Livestock care 🐄
Fenced cows, sheep, pigs, chickens and goats now need looking after:
- A hay block within 3 blocks for bedding
- Water within 4 blocks: a water block or a filled cauldron
If either is missing for about 90 seconds, the animal gets sick and slows down, and you get a warning. Use Herbal Grain on it to cure it. A cured animal thrives for 10 minutes, and newborns nearby can spawn as twins.
Predators and tracks
- At night, wild wolves and polar bears go after meat on your drying racks and spits within about 14 blocks.
- Animals leave fading footprints on grass, dirt and mud. Hold a spyglass to see them.
Cave dangers ⛏️
Cave-ins
Mining stone and ores below Y=0 builds a hidden vibration score that slowly fades. Explosions add to it. Wooden supports nearby (logs, planks, fences) raise your limit. When you get close, the ceiling groans. Go past the limit and you get a 1.5 second warning, then rocks fall for 3 to 7 damage each and may fracture a limb. Cave-ins have a 30-second cooldown, and they never break ores.
Toxic gas and explosions
Hidden gas pockets sit in fixed places below Y=0. They stay in the same spot, so a pocket you found is still there later.
- Stale air: mild nausea
- Toxic gas: poison, nausea and weakness, unless you wear the Miner's Gas Mask. The mask loses durability while it filters, and you repair it with charcoal
- Explosive: carry a torch or lantern, or stand within 2 blocks of fire, in toxic gas and the pocket explodes in a chain of fireballs. Flint and steel or a fire arrow shot into gas does the same. The pocket is spent for 10 minutes
Ropes and climbing 🧗
- Rope: right-click any block face to hang up to 30 blocks of climbable rope. On a ceiling it hangs from it, on a wall it hangs beside it, and on a ledge it hangs over the edge you are facing. Stand in it and look up to climb. Look level or down to hang or lower yourself
- Climbing Gloves and Pitons: hold the gloves in your off hand and carry pitons. Sneak against natural stone and look up to climb. It costs about 1 piton every 10 seconds
Cave echoes 🔊
Big open caverns below Y=10 echo your footsteps and fill with drips and distant rumbles.
Herbalism and field medicine 🌿
Aloe grows on sand, Marigold on grass, and Charcoal Root on grass, podzol and mud. Break them to collect.
| Injury | How you get it | What it does | Cure |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fracture | A fall of 5 or more damage, or rockfall | Slowness and mining fatigue | Wooden Splint |
| Bleeding | A hard hit from a mob or arrow (25% chance) | 1 damage every 2 seconds | Linen Bandage or Herbal Salve |
| Downed | Dropping to 3 health or less | You can barely move for 30 seconds, then you die | A teammate's Linen Bandage |
| Poison or burns | Gas, fire, spiders and more | Damage over time | Herbal Salve |
Treatment: use the item while looking at a teammate within 4 blocks. Otherwise it treats you. It takes about 3 seconds on yourself, 2 seconds on a teammate and 1.5 seconds to revive a downed player. Keep the item selected and stay close, or it is interrupted. Herbal Salve also gives a short regeneration.
Field repairs and weathering 🔧
- Sharpening Stone: use it to restore 15-20% durability to the most damaged tool in your inventory. It has 8 uses
- Armor Repair Kit: restores 15-20% durability to your most damaged worn armor piece
- In outdoor rain or below Y=0, tools and armor wear faster
- Standing in the rain with no roof or tent for a while gives slowness
- Exposed planks slowly darken into Weathered Planks in the rain
Explorer's Field Journal 📖
Use it to open a menu that lists the terrain types you have discovered, the wildlife you have met, your deepest and highest Y and your current conditions.

Installation
- Download the
.mcaddonfile. - Open it with Minecraft Bedrock. It imports automatically.
- Create or edit a world and activate both the Behavior Pack and the Resource Pack.
- Load into your world. You should see "[Wilderness & Expedition] loaded." in chat.
Requires Minecraft Bedrock 1.20.80 or newer.
Updating from an older version: remove the old Wilderness & Expedition packs from your world, import the new file, then activate both packs again.
Tips
- Hitch a cart to your horse for long trips. It is much steadier than pulling it on foot.
- Put up a few wooden beams in every deep tunnel before you start mining.
- Never carry a torch into a place where the air feels wrong. Use a mask and wait for the gas to clear.
- Keep a few bandages in your hotbar. They save both you and your friends.
- Smoke jerky before a long expedition, because it is a strong food that is easy to carry.
- Name your waystones so you can find your way back to camp.
FAQ
Do I need any experimental features?
No. It uses standard Bedrock scripting.
Do the hazards affect Creative mode?
No. Cave-ins and gas skip Creative and Spectator players.
Does it work in multiplayer and on Realms?
Yes. Every player has their own injuries, HUD and journal. Updates are staggered to keep the game smooth.
Does it work on mobile and console?
It works anywhere Bedrock supports add-ons with scripting.
Can I change the numbers?
Yes. Open BP/scripts/util.js and edit the CFG table for cart stability, vibration, gas, fractures and sharpening.
Do sick animals still give milk and wool?
Yes. Sick animals are slowed and flagged, but still produce milk and wool.
Is the journal's terrain list based on real biomes?
Not exactly. Minecraft scripts cannot read the biome directly, so the journal guesses it from the ground block under your feet.
Why can't I see the animal tracks?
Hold a spyglass in your hand, and stand near animals walking on grass, dirt or mud.
Rope or gloves are not working. What do I do?
Rope needs empty space to hang in. Gloves need to be in your off hand, you need a piton in your inventory, and you must sneak against natural stone.
Something is broken. Where do I report it?
Tell us on Discord or in the comments with your Minecraft version, what you did, and any red text from the content log (Settings, Creator, Content Log).

Notes
- Hazards are random and positional, so you cannot predict every danger. That is what makes caves scary.
- Gas pockets stay in the same place, so mark them with a waystone.
- Some models and textures are simple and will be improved in updates.
