Description
Yo! What is up, Minecraft legends? Let us be completely honest for a second. Minecraft just is not scary anymore. I have been grinding this game for years, and nothing in the base game actually makes me jump anymore. You get full iron armor, build a little dirt hut, block off the doors, and suddenly you are completely safe.
Zombies just groan outside, skeletons shoot the walls, and creepers are just a minor inconvenience if you have a shield. The fear of the dark completely vanishes after your first few nights. I got so incredibly bored of feeling safe that I decided to completely ruin my own peace of mind.
I did not want to just make another basic horror add-on that spawns a billion overpowered monsters with massive health bars. That is boring. Real horror is psychological.
Real horror is when you do not know if what you are experiencing is actually real or if you are just losing your mind. That is exactly why I built the VoxelBro Paranoia add-on. This is not about fighting; it is about surviving your own deteriorating sanity.
The Core Paranoia System
This add-on introduces a brand new hidden mechanic to your survival world: The Paranoia Meter. Every single player gets their own individual sanity tracked from 0% to 100%. When you first spawn into the world, everything is completely normal.
You chop wood, you mine stone, you feel fine. But slowly, as the days go by, and especially when the sun goes down and the night time hits, your paranoia starts creeping up.
As your paranoia percentage increases, the game starts actively messing with your head. The higher your meter goes, the more intense, frequent, and terrifying the hallucinations become. I designed this to gaslight you completely.
You will genuinely find yourself asking your multiplayer friends, "Did you hear that?" or "Did you just place this in my chest?" only for them to have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.
The Symptoms of Madness (What to Expect)
I coded several different layers of psychological torture into this pack, and they all scale based on how scared your character is.
Auditory Hallucinations (Fake Sounds)
This is the feature that will make you pause the game and take your headphones off. When your paranoia starts rising, the add-on will occasionally play completely fake sound effects directly into your ears. Imagine you are deep in a strip mine, digging for diamonds, and right behind you, you hear the iconic "Tsssssss" hiss of a Creeper.
You panic, spin around, pull your shield up—and absolutely nothing is there. Just an empty cave. The system will play fake footsteps, doors opening, cave ambiances, endermen teleporting, and even the terrifying heartbeat and sniffing sounds of a Warden. It will make you question every single noise in the game.
The Whispers in the Dark (Fake Chat)
When you are feeling nervous, the chat box becomes your worst enemy. You will start receiving direct messages from a sender simply labeled as [???]. These are not server broadcasts; they are whispered directly to you.
You are building your house at 2 AM and suddenly your chat logs say, "I see you." or "Don't turn around." or "I am inside the walls." A creepy harp sound plays every time they message you. It is incredibly unsettling when you are playing alone.
Shadow Figures
At higher paranoia levels, you will start seeing things in the corners of your screen. I created a custom particle system that briefly forms dark, humanoid smoke figures in the distance.
The moment you try to walk toward them to investigate, they completely vanish into thin air. You will constantly feel like someone is watching you from the tree lines.
Inventory Creeping
This is probably the most messed up feature I added. When your paranoia hits critical levels, the entity watching you will start leaving "gifts" directly inside your inventory without you picking anything up. You will just open your bag to craft a pickaxe and realize there is suddenly a random Skeleton Skull, a piece of Rotten Flesh, or a single Spider Eye sitting in your slots with a creepy message saying, "An eye watches you from your pocket." It completely violates your safe space.
The Stillness Punishment
Think you can just dig a hole, box yourself in, and wait out the night? Absolutely not. The script actively tracks your movement coordinates. If you stand completely still for more than two minutes, trying to hide in a corner, the entity catches up to you.
You will get a chilling message saying "I'm right behind you," a heavy breathing sound will play in your ear, and your paranoia will instantly spike by a massive amount. You have to keep moving.
The Paranoia Stages and Real Danger
The descent into madness happens in seven distinct stages, and your custom HUD will show you exactly how bad things are getting:
* Calm (0-10%): Peaceful, normal gameplay.
* Uneasy (11-25%): You start feeling strange. Very rare sounds.
* Nervous (26-40%): You find yourself looking over your shoulder. Shadows start appearing.
* Scared (41-55%): The hallucinations become aggressive and frequent.
* Terrified (56-70%): Inventory creeping begins. The whispers won't stop.
* Hysterical (71-85%): Reality starts breaking down entirely.
* PARANOID (86-100%): They are everywhere. Maximum intensity.
But here is the ultimate twist: It is not always fake.
Once your paranoia crosses into the Terrified stage (Level 4 and above), there is a rare 1% chance that the game decides to stop playing tricks on you. Instead of a fake sound, a real, physical threat will instantly spawn directly behind you.
I am talking about an actual Wither Skeleton, a swarm of Phantoms, or even a full-blown Warden dropping right on top of you in the overworld. The screen flashes, a massive sound plays, and you realize the threat is no longer in your head.
How to Stay Sane
You are not completely helpless. You can actively fight back against the fear. The best way to reduce your paranoia is to play aggressively. Every time you kill a hostile mob, your paranoia drops slightly because you are proving you can defend yourself.
Staying out in the bright daylight also causes your paranoia to naturally decay much faster than sitting in the dark. Keep moving, stay in the light, and keep your sword swinging.
The Custom UI Menu and Multiplayer Integration
I wanted you to have full control over tracking your suffering, so I built a clean, intuitive UI menu. Just hold a Book (any kind of book) in your hand and sneak to instantly open the Paranoia Dashboard.
From this menu, you can check your exact Paranoia Status and read up on the Survival Guide if you forget the rules.
I also added a detailed Stats page that tracks exactly how many whispers you have heard, how many shadows you have seen, and how many times you triggered the 'Behind You' stillness penalty.
If you play on realms or a server with your friends, this add-on truly shines. I built a fully synchronized Multiplayer Leaderboard into the UI menu. It ranks every single player on the server based on who is the most terrified.
You can actively see which of your friends is losing their mind the fastest. I also threw in 11 unlockable Achievements ranging from "First Whisper" to surviving a full five minutes at over 80% paranoia. Finally, there is a Settings tab where you can toggle the HUD off for immersion, or crank the intensity up if you are a true adrenaline junkie.
