Tinkerfold Guide
π§ What is Tinkerfold?
β¨ Feature highlights
- πͺ 7 forms in 1 item: Knife, Pickaxe, Axe, Shovel, Hoe, Loppers and Torch, plus a closed folded form
- β€οΈ One shared durability pool: switching forms never repairs or damages the tool
- πͺ Separate enchantments per tool: each form only takes its own kind and remembers them while folded
- π 3 tiers: Iron, Diamond and Netherite, upgraded at the smithing table with every enchantment kept
- π₯ Torch mode: a torch-bright dynamic light (level 14) , in the main hand or the offhand
- πΏ Loppers: shear leaves, vines, cobwebs and grass
- π± Hoe and Shovel: till dirt and flatten paths with right-click
- π§ Repairs at an anvil with iron ingots, and takes Mending
- ποΈ Offhand ready: every form can be held in the offhand
- 𧩠TinkerFold has been designed with cross-addon compatibility in mind, supporting blocks from other addons wherever possible.

π οΈ Crafting
A new Tinkerfold is one shapeless recipe in the crafting table, and it comes out as a closed TinkerFold. Diamond and Netherite versions are never crafted directly. They are upgrades (see Tiers and upgrading).
π§ Tinkerfold (closed, Iron)
Shapeless, any arrangement, 8 items:

π‘ Enchanted ingredients are not carried into the multi-tool. Craft with plain tools.
π Upgrade Template

That is 3 Iron Ingots and 1 Red Dye, in a 2x2 square anywhere on the grid. You need one template for each upgrade step.
π Diamond Plating

Diamond Plating is the addition item for the Iron to Diamond upgrade.
π Switching tools
Right-click with a Closed Tinkerfold to open the Folding menu, then tap the form you want. How you open it depends on whether the tool is folded or unfolded.

- π« Sneak + right-click on a Unfolded TinkerFold opens the Folding Menu.
- π Every menu button shows its own Tinkerfold icon for that tool and tier.
- π¦ Fold Closed appears in the menu while a tool is unfolded. Use it to fold back up and to prepare for upgrades.
- π Switching plays a click sound.
π‘ Switching keeps durability, custom name, lore and the item's other data. Enchantments are swapped to the new tool's own set (see Enchanting).
π§° The tools
Each form works like its vanilla counterpart, with a few Tinkerfold rules. Base attack damage is for the Iron tier. Diamond adds +1 and Netherite adds +2.

π Form notes
- βοΈ Pickaxe, Axe, Shovel: mining speed is 8 (Iron), 10 (Diamond) or 12 (Netherite). Tool tier tags are set so they harvest what the matching vanilla tool would.
- πΎ Hoe: tilling is handled by the script.
- π₯ Shovel: paths are also script-driven.
- βοΈ Loppers: shear leaves, vines, cobweb and grasses, costing 1 durability each. Tall grass drops 2. Loppers dig 2 speed points slower than the other tools.
- π₯ Torch: places an invisible level 14 light block at your body, the same brightness as a normal torch. It moves with you every 2 ticks and is removed when you put the torch away, scroll off it, switch tool, change dimension or leave the game.
- βοΈ Knife: breaking blocks with it costs 2 durability, as the sword does in vanilla.

π Hoe and Shovel use scripted interaction, so the arm swing animation may not play when tilling or making paths. The action still works.
β€οΈ Durability, repair and Mending
Every form draws from one durability pool, so wear follows the Tinkerfold, not the form. Mine with the Pickaxe, switch to the Axe, and the Axe starts with the damage the Pickaxe left.
π What costs durability
- βοΈ Breaking a block with the Pickaxe, Axe or Shovel: 1
- π‘οΈ Breaking a block with the Knife: 2
- βοΈ Hitting an entity: 2
- βοΈ Each Loppers shearing: 1
- πΎ Each tilled block (Hoe) or path made (Shovel): 1
π‘οΈ Unbreaking
Unbreaking works per tool. Each form uses the Unbreaking level on that form's own enchantments, with a 1 in (level + 1) chance to be charged. Unbreaking III on the Pickaxe does not protect the Axe.
π¨ Repairing:
At an anvil
- Fold or unfold the Tinkerfold as you like. Any form repairs the shared pool.
- Put the Tinkerfold (regardless of tool tier) in the first anvil slot and Iron Ingots in the second.
- Each ingot restores a quarter of the tier's maximum durability.
π Mending
Mending works from the tool's own enchantment slot. Enchant the tool you want Mending on, and it repairs the shared pool when you collect XP while holding that form. Mending can sit on a tool of any kind, so you can pick the one you hold most often.
You may also Repair them with my whetstone
πͺ Enchanting
Every tool keeps its own enchantments, and they stay put while you switch forms, fold the tool or upgrade its tier. Enchant the Pickaxe for mining, the Axe for chopping, the Knife for combat, and each set comes back when you switch to that form.
β What each form accepts
|
Form |
Enchantments it takes |
|---|---|
|
π¦ Closed |
None |
|
πͺ Knife |
Sword enchantments (Sharpness, Looting, Fire Aspect, Unbreaking, Mending...) |
|
βοΈ Pickaxe |
Pickaxe enchantments (Efficiency, Fortune, Silk Touch, Unbreaking, Mending...) |
|
πͺ Axe |
Axe enchantments |
|
π₯ Shovel |
Shovel enchantments |
|
πΎ Hoe |
Hoe enchantments |
|
βοΈ Loppers |
Shears enchantments (Efficiency, Unbreaking, Mending...) |
|
π₯ Torch |
None |
A form only offers the enchantments that suit it. The Knife never gets Efficiency and the Pickaxe never gets Sharpness.
π How to enchant
- Switch to the form you want to enchant (not the closed TinkerFold and not the Torch).
- Use an enchanting table or an anvil with enchanted books, as you would on a vanilla tool.
- Repeat for each form. Each one is its own separate set.
π§ How enchantments are remembered
- When you switch away from a form, the script saves that form's enchantments on the item, filed under the form's name.
- It then clears them and loads the enchantments saved for the new form.
- Switch back and the first form's enchantments return, with the same levels.
- While the tool is closed, every saved set stays safely stored on the item. The closed knife shows none, but nothing is lost.
π Enchantments and tier upgrades
The memory is filed by form, not by tier. An enchantment on the Iron Pickaxe is filed under "pickaxe", so it is still there on the Diamond Pickaxe and again on the Netherite one. Upgrading the closed knife swaps the item to the new tier and the stored sets go with it. Tools made before this was added are converted the first time they are switched.

π Quick answers
- Do enchants get lost when I switch forms? No. They are saved and restored per form.
- Do enchants get lost when I upgrade? They are designed to carry over, and the script passed its simulated tests. The smithing-table step itself is not yet confirmed in the real game. See Known limits.
- Do Unbreaking and Mending count across tools? Unbreaking is per tool. Mending repairs the shared pool.
- Can I put Sharpness on the Pickaxe? No. Only each tool's own kind is accepted.
π Tiers and upgrading
Tinkerfold upgrades from Iron to Diamond to Netherite at a smithing table, and every tool inside upgrades at once.
π Upgrade path
- π¦ Fold the Tinkerfold closed. Only a closed TinkerFold can be upgraded.
- βοΈ Iron to Diamond at a smithing table:
- Template: Upgrade Template
- Base: closed Iron Tinkerfold
- Addition: Diamond Plating

- π₯ Diamond to Netherite at a smithing table:
- Template: Upgrade Template
- Base: closed Diamond Tinkerfold
- Addition: Netherite Ingot

- Take the result from the output slot.
π What carries over
- β€οΈ Durability: the new tier has a larger pool (1600, then 2400).
- πͺ Every enchantment on every tool, because each tool's set is saved by form and not by tier
- π·οΈ Custom name and lore
- π§ All seven forms: Knife, Pickaxe, Axe, Shovel, Hoe, Loppers and Torch become the new tier together
β What each tier changes
- π Diamond: durability 1600, mining speed 10, damage +1
- π₯ Netherite: durability 2400, mining speed 12, damage +2, and it is fireproof (it survives lava and fire as an item)

β οΈ Tinkerfold must be closed to be accepted at the smithing table. An unfolded tool is a different item and will not fit the recipe.
ποΈ Offhand, tooltips and other-addon blocks
ποΈ Offhand
Every form, including the closed knife, can be held in the offhand. The Torch light works from either hand, and the item tooltip refreshes there too.
π¬ Tooltips
The item info window shows an efficiency line with its value for the digging forms:
- πͺ Axe: Chop efficiency
- βοΈ Pickaxe: Mining efficiency
- π₯ Shovel: Dig efficiency
The value is the tier's base speed, and it rises with Efficiency: base speed + (Efficiency level squared + 1). Other forms show no efficiency line. Tooltips update about once a second.
π Stats at a glance
Diamond doubles Iron's durability and Netherite triples it. Damage is the base value plus the tier bonus.

β οΈKnown limits and troubleshooting
π Known limits
- πΎ Hoe and Shovel actions may show no arm swing.
- π₯ The Torch light trails a moment behind you (about 0.1 seconds).
- 𧱠A light block occupies a space, so very fast block placing at your body may be blocked.
-
𧱠Blocks from other addons
The digging forms break blocks from other addons as long as those blocks use the standard Minecraft tags. They are set to match the usual pickaxe, axe and shovel block tags, plus older stone, metal, wood, log, dirt, sand, gravel and grass tags. Modded ores, stone, logs and soil normally work with no setup. A block with no tags cannot be sped up by any tool, and Tinkerfold is no exception.
- π¦ Closed knife and Torch take no enchantments.
π§ Troubleshooting
|
Problem |
Try this |
|---|---|
|
Menu will not open |
Closed: plain right-click. Unfolded: sneak and right-click. Make sure Tinkerfold is selected in your hand. |
|
Switch fails or errors |
Keep the knife in the same slot while the menu is open, then try again. |
|
Items show no icon or name |
Activate the resource pack, not only the behavior pack. |
|
Nothing happens at all |
Activate the behavior pack and check the world has scripting enabled. |
|
Old version acting up |
Remove the old packs fully, import the new |
|
A light is left behind |
Put the Torch away or rejoin. Leftover lights are cleaned up on the next load. |
