Description
Obe's Realism
Survival that fights back. Stay hydrated, keep warm, patch up your wounds and earn the right to swing a diamond sword. Inspired by the Java Edition RLCraft modpack, rebuilt from scratch as one Bedrock add-on that works on phones and controllers.
A night in a snowy taiga without warm clothes can kill you. So can a desert day without water, or a fall that breaks both legs. Every system can be turned down or off by operators.
Thirst
- Ten droplets above your hunger bar. They drain as you move, mine and fight, and twice as fast when you're hot.
- Low thirst slows your sprint, then your mining, then starts to hurt.
- Drink by tapping water with an empty hand, or by crouching while looking at it. River and lake water can make you sick; sea water barely helps. Crouch under the rain looking up for a clean sip.
- Purified Water: cook a water bottle in a furnace or smoker. A Canteen holds 4 sips, and a Rain Collector fills bottles while it rains.
- Milk, honey, stews, melon and berries quench thirst too. Dried kelp and rotten flesh make it worse.
Body temperature
- A thermometer on your HUD: white when you're comfortable, icy blue when cold, orange to red when hot.
- Your temperature follows the biome, height, time of day, rain, water and what's around you: campfires, furnaces, lava and torches warm you; ice and snow chill you. Deserts are hot by day and cold at night. Caves stay mild.
- Too cold and you slow down, shiver and finally freeze. Too hot and you weaken, get thirsty and finally overheat.
- Fight back with Wool and Frost Linings sewn into your armour, Heat and Cooling Packs, Warm Tea and Chilled Water, and a Heater or Cooler to make your base comfortable.
Injuries
- Every hit lands on a body part: head, torso, arms, legs or feet. Falls hurt your feet and legs, arrows hit where they land, fire burns everywhere.
- A figure on your HUD shows each part, from white to dark red when broken.
- Hurt parts have real effects: a broken arm can't mine well (both broken: no bows), broken legs slow you down, a head hit makes you dizzy. On Harsh, a hit to a broken head or torso is deadly.
- Treat them with Plasters, Bandages, Splints and the Medical Kit: use one and it treats the part that needs it most, at once, so you can patch up in a fight. Crouch and use one to pick the part yourself. Morphine holds off the pain for 3 minutes.
- On Harsh, food doesn't heal you: bandages, the Healing Salve, golden apples and potions do.
A primitive start
- No punching trees: logs need an axe.
- Pick up loose rocks from the ground and knap flint into a Flint Knife, Hatchet, Pickaxe and Shovel. Cut plant fibre from grass for string.
- Logs don't craft into planks: turn a log into a Chopping Block and chop logs on it with an axe. Better axes give more planks.
- Raw meat can give you food poisoning. Cook it.
Skills
- Eight skills: Attack, Defence, Agility, Building, Farming, Gathering, Magic and Mining, from 1 to 32. Raise them by spending your XP in the
/realismmenu. - Better gear needs skill levels: an iron pickaxe needs Mining 8, a diamond sword Attack 16, netherite armour Defence 24. The enchanting table, anvils, elytra, ender pearls, horses and some crops need levels too. A locked weapon hits like a bare hand and locked armour won't stay on.
- Gear from other add-ons is locked by its tier as well, so a modded diamond sword is no shortcut.
- Twenty perks to buy with skill points: Dodge, Wall Jump, Ledge Grab, Undershirt (survive a killing blow once a minute), Green Thumb, Safe Port (ender pearls don't hurt) and more.
- Skills are kept when you die.
A more dangerous world
New chunks hold structures to explore and fight through, each with spawners and chests of loot that help you survive:
- Ruined watchtowers, crypts with a vault below, and cave dungeons sealed deep in the rock.
- Bandit camps with a pillager spawner hidden in a tent.
- Sky towers: a 40-block climb to a waystone at the top, the perfect place to glide from.
- Ruined portals to repair, abandoned homes to move into, and very rare fortresses with twelve spawners and the best loot.
- Mob spawners break after 10 of their mobs die. Break one yourself first for XP and loot.
Getting around
- Waystones: activate them and travel between the ones you've found, paying in XP levels (more for longer trips). Every village gets one near its bell. A Warp Stone or Warp Scroll opens the list from anywhere.
- Glider: sail down from heights, with no fall damage while it's open.
- Wooden and Stone Grapples: hook a block and pull yourself up to it.
- Sleeping Bag: sleep through the night anywhere. It never sets your spawn point.
Harsh rules (each one a switch)
- Torches burn out after a day, or in the rain. Relight them with flint and steel. Lanterns last.
- No coordinates.
- Random spawn: without a bed you start, and respawn, 500 to 2000 blocks from world spawn.
- Dynamic lighting: a torch or lantern in your hand lights up the area around you as you walk.
- Tools and armour smelt back to about half their material; chainmail and horse armour can be crafted.
Made for every input
Everything works with one button on a controller, touch screen or keyboard: use an item, or crouch and use it. /realism opens your status, your HUD settings and your skills, and for operators the world settings: the Harsh, Normal or Mild preset and an on/off switch for every system.
Crafting
The recipe images in the gallery show every recipe. Some to start with:
- Flint Shards: flint and a rock. Flint Knife: a shard over a stick.
- Bandage: wool (any colour) and string. Plaster: paper and a slimeball.
- Canteen: an iron ingot over three leather.
- Thermometer: glass, redstone and an iron ingot in a column.
- Sleeping Bag: three wool over three plant fibre.
- Glider: three phantom membranes, then string, stick, string, then a stick.
- Grapples: a wooden or stone pickaxe and a lead.
- Warp Stone: amethyst shards and ender pearls around a gold ingot. Waystone: seven stone bricks around a Warp Stone.
Good to know
- Rocks and structures appear in newly generated chunks. In an existing world, travel to unexplored land to find them.
- Realism uses the HUD for its thirst, temperature and body displays. Other add-ons that replace the whole HUD may hide them;
/realismcan show them as text in the actionbar instead. - Other add-ons that add their own skills or level gates may clash with Realism's skills. Operators can turn the skills off.
- This is a beta: please report bugs and balance problems in the comments. Patches come quickly.
- Works in single player, on Realms and on dedicated servers. You don't need to turn on any experiments.
Requirements
- Minecraft Bedrock 1.26.50 or newer.
