XP Tome

A book that stores experience. Pour your XP into it before a risky trip, keep it safe in a chest, or hand it to a friend. Use the tome and the XP comes back.

One tome holds up to 1,395 XP, exactly 30 levels.

How it works

• Store: sneak and use the tome. As much of your XP as fits goes into it. Anything over the limit stays with you.
• Take it back: use the tome without sneaking. You get all of its XP back at once.

The tooltip shows how much XP the tome holds, in points and in levels. A message above your hotbar tells you how much was stored or taken back, and when the tome is full or empty.

You unlock the recipe in the recipe book by picking up an ender pearl. With cheats on you can also use /give @s xp_tome:xp_tome.

Good to know

• It stores XP points, not levels, the same way vanilla experience works. 1,395 points is 30 levels starting from zero. Higher levels cost more points, so storing XP while you're at level 40 fills the tome with fewer levels than that.
• The XP is kept on the item. You can move the tome through chests, hoppers and trades, give it to another player, and it keeps its XP if it drops when you die. If the item is destroyed (lava, cactus, despawning), its XP is gone too.
• Tomes don't stack. Each one holds its own XP.
• Works in single player, on Realms and on dedicated servers. You don't need to turn on any experiments.
