"i'm writing this down while it's still fresh, because in a week i'll tell myself it was just the fog.

it started with a chat message. white text, no name above it. "still here?" i checked the player list. nobody was online. i was alone on that world, i made it alone.

then i came back from mining and my front door was gone. not broken, not dropped as an item, just a hole where the door was. the torches i'd put in the hallway were on the other side of the room. my wheat was dead. my pickaxe had rust on it somehow and i didn't know tools could even rust in this game.

that's about when i started running.

the fog showed up with no rain and no weather warning, thick enough that i lost the treeline. something was walking behind me and it wasn't running. slow steps. like it already knew i'd have to stop and breathe eventually. it said my actual name.

an arm came out of the ground and grabbed my leg. i hit it until it let go and i kept bleeding after that. eating stopped it, eventually. later something appeared right behind me and i turned around before i could think, and that was a mistake, and i don't want to describe what happened after that one.

i did figure out how to end it. there are two altars. the first one calls him and i really wish i'd left that alone. the second one needs netherite, and when i lit it he came down out of the sky in a column of fire and everything went quiet at once.

he fights in four phases. he talks the whole time. he taunts. he doesn't want you to win this one.

i won. i'm not going to say it was easy. i got a full netherite set out of it, named after him, and i'm going back to check if my house is still there now.

i'm not looking behind me on the way. i've learned that much."
