Grass Curse - Instant Death Challenge

i was thinking the other day about how easy minecraft survival has become lately. We just run around the overworld jumping on dirt and grass without a care in the world. I wanted to make the most punishing and frustrating challenge ever for my multiplayer realms to troll my friends. So i created the RR Grass Curse addon. This is not a normal survival pack.

This is pure torture. In this behavior pack the most common block in the entire game is your biggest enemy. If you touch a grass block you instantly die. Yes you heard that right. Instant death. No warnings, no damage ticks, just dead.

​The Core Mechanics

So let me explain how this curse actually works in the game. Every single tick the script checks what block is directly under your feet. If it detects a minecraft grass block it kills you instantly and broadcasts a message to the chat so everyone can laugh at you. But dont worry not every block is cursed. Regular dirt blocks, stone, wood, sand, mycelium and podzol are completely safe to walk on. It is only the green grass blocks that will kill you. This completely changes how you play the game from the first second you spawn. You have to craft slabs or wooden planks to build bridges everywhere. You find yourself jumping from stone to stone just to get some wood from a tree. If you make one wrong jump and land on the green grass it is over.

​Ranks and Death Tracking

Because i know you guys are going to die a lot in this addon i built a massive tracking system to record your suffering. The game tracks every single time you die to the grass. As your death count goes up you actually get custom ranks. You start off as a Rookie. When you hit 10 deaths you become a Grass Walker. At 50 you are a Grass Dancer. It goes all the way up to 1000 deaths where you become a GRASS GOD and at 5000 deaths you get the ultimate CURSED SOUL rank. It is kind of a flex but also really embarrassing to have a high rank. There is also a streak system. The game counts how many safe blocks you walk on without dying. If you get a really high streak and then accidentally touch grass the game literally tells you that your streak is lost and laughs at you.

​Milestones and Lucky Escapes

I also added some really funny easter eggs to make the pain a bit more enjoyable. When you hit specific death numbers like 69, 404 or 420 the game gives you custom funny messages. Like at 666 deaths the game says the devils number and plays a creepy totem sound. But i am not completely evil guys. I actually programmed a very small 2 percent chance for a Lucky Escape. Sometimes when you accidentally touch the grass you wont die. The game will play an epic sound and tell you that the grass spared you this time. It gives you a mini heart attack but saves your life.

​UI Menu and Leaderboard

To keep track of all this madness you dont need to type any annoying commands. You just hold a normal book in your hand and sneak. This opens the Grass Curse UI menu. From this menu you can check your exact death count, your current safe streak and your best streak ever. There is also a full server leaderboard in the menu. If you are playing on a multiplayer SMP with your friends you can open this leaderboard and see exactly who has died the most to the grass. It creates a really funny competition to see who is the worst at jumping. The menu also has a How to Play section with tips on how to survive.

​Random Server Events

Just to add a little bit more chaos to the server I added a random world event. Every 5 minutes there is a small 5 percent chance that a Cursed Event triggers. The whole server gets a red warning on their screen saying the grass is growing restless. During this time if you die to the grass it actually counts as double deaths. So your death counter goes up twice as fast and ruins your stats. It really makes everyone panic and stay inside their houses until the event is over.

​Beta APIs Setup

You guys already know how my addons work. Because this pack uses the custom background scripts to constantly check the blocks under your feet and uses dynamic properties to save your death counts permanently, you absolutely must turn on the Beta APIs experiment in your world settings. If you dont toggle it on the script will not load and the grass will just be normal boring grass. So please check that before playing or it wont work.
