Description
Andy's Inventory & Storage Organizer
Stop losing playtime to half-filled stacks, scattered supplies, and storage rooms that never stay organized. Andy's Inventory & Storage Organizer gives every player a crafted Organizer Wand for safe, configurable cleanup of their personal inventory and supported vanilla storage—on demand, after inventory changes settle, or when a container closes.
The add-on sorts only items that already exist. It uses native whole-stack slot swaps for rearrangement and guarded debit-before-credit transfers when combining stacks. It does not generate kits, summon missing supplies, or silently replace valuable items.
Vanilla-friendly by design
- Uses familiar personal inventory and vanilla storage containers
- Adds one purpose-built Organizer Wand with a simple charcoal-and-stick recipe
- Does not replace vanilla inventory screens or reserve a permanent inventory control slot
- Does not modify vanilla blocks, loot tables, entities, or unrelated recipes
- Requires no cheats, commands, or experimental gameplay toggles
- Supports Standard graphics and Vibrant Visuals
- Stores personal preferences per player and storage preferences per container coordinate
- Refuses risky operations instead of guessing when a hopper, lock, concurrent change, or unsupported state is detected
Requirements
- Minecraft Bedrock Edition 26.30 or newer
- Andy's Inventory & Storage Organizer Behavior and Resource Packs
- Stable
@minecraft/server2.8.0 and@minecraft/server-ui2.1.0 supplied by Minecraft - No required companion add-on
- No experimental gameplay toggles
Public achievement compatibility is not advertised as guaranteed. Minecraft makes the final eligibility decision for each world, platform, and retail version.
Crafting the Organizer Wand
Use a Crafting Table and place the ingredients vertically:
| Top | Middle | Bottom |
|---|---|---|
| Charcoal | Stick | Stick |
The recipe unlocks after obtaining Charcoal and produces one Organizer Wand. The wand stacks to one and has its own 64×64 item texture.
Opening the menus
- Hold the Organizer Wand, crouch, and use it in open air to open Personal Inventory Settings.
- Hold the Organizer Wand, crouch, and use it directly on a supported storage container to open Storage Organizer for that container.
The wand is the only control item. No Organize button occupies a permanent hotbar or inventory slot.
Personal inventory features
Organize Now
Runs the currently selected sorting rule immediately. Whole stacks move through native slot swaps. Reserved hotbar positions, manually pinned positions, and compatibility-protected positions remain unchanged.
If the inventory changes between planning and execution, the operation stops and reports that the inventory changed. It never intentionally continues from a stale snapshot.
Restack Only
Combines compatible partial stacks without performing the later sorting pass. Items must be natively stack-compatible. Different custom names, lore, enchantments, durability/component data, or other exposed identity details are not deliberately merged.
Stack transfers debit the source first and verify the result before crediting the destination. If Minecraft refuses the destination write, the guarded transaction attempts to restore the original source and destination.
Always Organize
This per-player toggle begins off. When enabled, the Organizer waits approximately 1.5 seconds after personal inventory changes settle, then performs one organization pass. New activity replaces the pending request so rapid pickups do not start overlapping sorts.
Always Organize uses the same sorting, hotbar, pin, layout, and compatibility rules as Organize Now. It does not independently enable hotbar sorting or compaction.
Sorting rules
Choose which group receives priority:
| Rule | Behavior |
|---|---|
| Blocks First | Blocks, then resources, tools, food, redstone, and general utility items |
| Vanilla Categories | Blocks, then tools, food, resources, redstone, and general utility items |
| Resources First | Ores, raw materials, ingots, gems, nuggets, and related resources before other groups |
| Tools First | Tools, weapons, bows, shields, shears, fishing rods, brushes, and similar equipment first |
| Food First | Food-component items first |
| Redstone First | Redstone-related items, rails, hoppers, levers, buttons, pressure plates, pistons, observers, and torches first |
| Alphabetical | Sorts by item identifier and custom name |
| Largest Stacks | Places larger stacks first, then uses stable item and original-slot ordering |
Sorting categories use stable item data exposed by Bedrock plus conservative identifier matching. Third-party custom items that do not expose familiar components normally fall into the utility group and remain sortable by identifier.
Hotbar Mode: Preserve
Preserve is the default. All nine hotbar positions remain fixed, including empty positions. Organizing the rest of the inventory therefore cannot pull items into an empty hotbar slot or move a deliberately placed tool.
Hotbar Mode: Sort
Sort allows the occupied hotbar positions to participate in the whole personal-inventory sort. Empty hotbar positions still remain reserved by default, so manually removing an item leaves that position empty.
Compact Hotbar
Compact Hotbar is a separate toggle and begins off. It applies only while Hotbar Mode is Sort.
- Off: empty hotbar positions stay empty.
- On: empty hotbar positions may be filled as part of the whole-inventory sort.
Enable it only when a tightly packed hotbar is intentional. Always Organize never turns it on automatically.
Individual pins
Every personal inventory position can be pinned, including any of the nine hotbar positions and any currently empty slot.
- A pinned occupied position keeps its current stack in place.
- A pinned empty position remains empty.
- Pins apply in addition to hotbar and compatibility protection.
Open Layouts & Pins → Edit Individual Pins to toggle positions. The menu displays the current item in every slot to make the selection easier to verify.
Saved personal layouts
Save up to five named layouts for mining, building, combat, exploration, farming, redstone, or another repeated loadout.
- Arrange the inventory as desired.
- Open Layouts & Pins → Save Current Layout.
- Give the layout a recognizable name.
- The new layout becomes active.
- Later, choose it under Activate Saved Layout, then use Organize Now or allow Always Organize to run after the next inventory change.
A layout records a target for each non-empty saved position. Empty saved positions remain sortable. Layout matching uses the item identifier and custom name; it does not promise to distinguish every enchantment or private third-party component when several otherwise matching items exist.
When a layout is active, automatic restacking is skipped so the saved stack arrangement is not collapsed. Clear Active Layout to return to ordinary sorting and restacking.
Layouts rearrange only matching items the player already carries. They do not create missing supplies, pull from nearby containers, or delete unmatched items.
Undo Last Sort
Undo is intentionally narrow. It is available only for a recent pure rearrangement while the inventory still exactly matches the post-sort snapshot.
Restacking and Quick Stack change stack amounts or cross a container boundary, so they do not create a misleading split-operation undo record. If another add-on or the player changes the inventory after a sort, the guarded undo refuses to overwrite that newer state.
Diagnostics
Diagnostics begins off. When enabled, the Organizer writes [AIO-DIAG] entries to the Creator Content Log for:
- Organize start and completion totals
- Personal inventory change events
- Nearby spawned item entities within the diagnostic radius
Use diagnostics only while reproducing a problem, then turn it off. Diagnostic logging does not intentionally alter items.
Storage container features
Supported storage
- Chests
- Trapped Chests
- Barrels
- Copper Chests
- Exposed, Weathered, and Oxidized Copper Chests
- Waxed Copper Chest variants
- Standard and all colored Shulker Boxes
The add-on operates on the native inventory component Bedrock exposes for the selected block. Third-party custom storage blocks are not promised for this release.
Organize Now
Sorts the selected storage using that container's own sorting rule, pins, and active layout. Storage settings do not replace the player's personal settings.
Restack Only
Combines compatible partial stacks inside the selected container without running its sorting pass.
Quick Stack From Inventory
Moves items from the player's carried inventory only into compatible, non-full stacks already present in the selected container.
Quick Stack deliberately does not seed a new item type into an empty storage slot. If the container does not already hold a compatible destination stack, that player stack remains where it is.
Every transfer is debit-before-credit and the combined item total across both inventories is verified. Quick Stack has no independent undo because safely recreating the original split across two inventories after later changes would be unreliable.
Sort on Close
This per-container toggle begins off. When enabled, closing that supported container schedules one organization pass using its stored rule, pins, and layout.
Sort on Close is the storage equivalent of Always Organize; it does not enable itself globally and does not change other containers.
Storage sorting rules
Storage offers the same eight rule choices as the personal inventory. Every container can use a different rule—for example Resources First in an ore chest, Food First in a kitchen barrel, and Redstone First in a workshop shulker box.
Storage pins and layouts
Every exposed container position can be pinned, including empty positions. Each container coordinate can store up to five named layouts.
Saved storage layouts behave like personal layouts:
- Non-empty saved positions become item targets.
- Empty saved positions remain sortable.
- Activating a layout does not create missing items.
- Restacking is skipped while a layout is active.
- Matching uses item identifier and custom name.
Storage configuration is associated with the block's dimension and coordinates. Breaking or moving a container does not move its Organizer settings to a new coordinate. Review the settings after replacing storage at a previously configured location.
Storage undo
A recent pure storage rearrangement can be undone only while that container still exactly matches the post-sort snapshot. Restacking, Quick Stack, hopper movement, player changes, or another add-on changing the contents can make undo unavailable.
Safety boundaries
Hopper protection
If any hopper is detected directly above, below, or beside a supported container, organization is refused. This conservative boundary avoids sorting while automation can move an item between snapshot and commit.
Temporarily disconnect the hopper, organize the container, then reconnect automation if appropriate. The Organizer does not pause or take ownership of another automation system.
Locked-container protection
When Andy's Locks & Keys exposes a coordinate lock at the selected storage location, the Organizer refuses the operation. It does not bypass the lock, infer ownership, or weaken access rules. Remove or unlock the protection through Locks & Keys before sorting when appropriate.
Concurrent changes
Personal and storage sorts compare the live contents with their planned snapshot. If a player, hopper, another add-on, or Minecraft changes the inventory during the operation, the sort stops instead of blindly writing an outdated result.
Item identity
Whole-stack sorting preserves native ItemStacks by swapping slots. Restacking uses native stack compatibility and additional identity checks. Filled Shulker Boxes, named items, enchanted equipment, books, maps, and add-on items are never intentionally reconstructed as generic replacements during a whole-stack sort.
Back up an important world before installing or updating any add-on, and test unusual third-party items in a copy first.
Companion add-on compatibility
Andy's Handy Hotbar Reloader
When the Organizer detects that Handy Hotbar Reloader is enabled and managing at least one hotbar slot, it protects the entire hotbar from Organizer movement. Handy retains control of its Slot Memory and Blueprint workspace while the Organizer can still sort the main personal inventory.
Andy's Palette Paver
When a vanilla stick named Palette Paver is detected, the Organizer protects the complete nine-slot Palette Paver working hotbar: the tool in slot 1 and material positions 2–9.
Andy's Explorer's Backpack
The Organizer does not target the Backpack's off-hand equipment slot or custom storage entity. The Backpack's own sorting, Magnet, Vacuum, pockets, and archive systems remain separate. Personal inventory organization can still run around the carried inventory; test automation-heavy combinations in a backed-up world.
Andy's Portable Campsite
The standalone campsite uses separate pack UUIDs and item namespaces from the Organizer. The Organizer does not create, configure, or replace campsite kits. Use storage sorting only after the campsite container is fully open and stable.
Andy's Locks & Keys
Locked vanilla storage fails closed, as described above. This release does not claim an owner-authorization bypass; security remains with Locks & Keys.
Other add-ons
The Organizer does not overwrite vanilla UI files and uses its own item and dynamic-property namespaces. Other inventory automation can still race for the same slots. Disable overlapping automatic behavior or protect the affected hotbar/container when two systems have different goals.
Installation
Windows and mobile
- Download the official
Andys_Inventory_Storage_Organizer_0.1.5.mcaddon. - Open the file with Minecraft Bedrock Edition.
- Wait for Minecraft to report a successful import or update.
- Create a world or edit an existing world.
- Open Behavior Packs → My Packs.
- Activate Andy's Inventory & Storage Organizer. Its mutually linked Resource Pack activates with it.
- Confirm both packs show version 0.1.5.
- Enter the world, obtain Charcoal, and craft the Organizer Wand over two Sticks.
Back up important worlds before installation.
Console through a Realm
Minecraft consoles do not normally import arbitrary .mcaddon files directly. Import and configure the world on a supported Windows or mobile device, upload that prepared world to a Realm, then join the Realm from the console.
Multiplayer, Realms, and servers
Install the add-on on the world once. Joining players receive the active world packs through Minecraft's normal delivery. Personal settings remain per player; storage settings are shared with the world container coordinate.
Updating
- Back up the world.
- Import the newer
.mcaddon. - Wait for Minecraft to confirm the update.
- Edit the world and confirm both linked packs show the newest version.
- Completely leave and reopen the world before testing.
- If Minecraft retained an obsolete duplicate, remove the older copy under Settings → Storage, restart Minecraft, and import again.
The project UUIDs remain stable so personal and storage settings can persist between compatible updates.
Troubleshooting
The wand recipe is missing
- Obtain Charcoal to trigger the recipe unlock.
- Use a Crafting Table rather than the 2×2 personal grid.
- Place Charcoal above two vertical Sticks.
- Confirm Behavior Pack version 0.1.5.
- Check the Creator Content Log for recipe validation errors.
Crouch-use in air does not open the personal menu
- Confirm the held item is the custom Organizer Wand, not a renamed ordinary stick.
- Crouch before using it.
- Close chat, another form, or another inventory screen and try again.
- Confirm both linked packs are active and the Behavior Pack script loaded without errors.
Crouch-use opens the container instead of Storage Organizer
- Keep crouching and use the Organizer Wand directly on the supported block.
- Confirm the block is a vanilla chest, trapped chest, barrel, copper chest variant, or shulker box.
- Try another face of the block after closing all other screens.
- Third-party custom storage is not promised.
An empty hotbar position was filled
- Open Personal Inventory Settings.
- Use Hotbar Mode: Preserve to lock all nine positions.
- In Sort mode, confirm Compact Hotbar: Off.
- Check whether an older pack version is still active.
Always Organize keeps moving a deliberately arranged inventory
- Turn Always Organize off for manual control.
- Pin important positions or save and activate a layout.
- Use Preserve for a fixed hotbar.
- Remember that Always Organize runs after inventory changes settle; it follows the currently selected settings every time.
Items do not restack
- Confirm the stacks are natively compatible.
- Different names, enchantments, lore, damage/component data, or private add-on properties may prevent merging.
- Active layouts skip restacking to preserve their recorded stack arrangement.
- Clear the active layout when consolidation is more important than exact stack positions.
A saved layout does not restore an item
- Confirm a matching item is still present in the same inventory.
- Activate the layout, then use Organize Now.
- Layouts do not craft, summon, or pull missing items from other containers.
- Matching uses item identifier and custom name; multiple similarly named enchanted items may not be distinguishable by the layout target.
Storage reports that automation is attached
A hopper was detected directly beside, above, or below the container. Disconnect it before sorting. This is an intentional safety boundary.
Storage reports that it is locked
Andy's Locks & Keys has a coordinate lock at that position. Use Locks & Keys to remove or change the protection before sorting. The Organizer does not bypass it.
Sort on Close does nothing
- Confirm it is enabled for that exact container coordinate.
- Confirm no adjacent hopper or lock now blocks the operation.
- Confirm the container is still loaded when it closes.
- Test Organize Now on the same container to reveal an immediate action-bar reason.
Undo is unavailable
Undo requires the inventory to remain exactly as the Organizer left it. Picking up, dropping, moving, consuming, restacking, Quick Stacking, hopper transfer, or another add-on change can invalidate it. This is intentional overwrite protection.
A duplicate or unexpected item appears
- Stop using automatic organization temporarily.
- Turn Diagnostics: On.
- Reproduce once in a copy of the world.
- Save all
[AIO-DIAG]lines from the Creator Content Log. - Test a new world with only the Organizer active.
- Re-enable other Behavior Packs one at a time.
- Include exact Organizer and companion versions in the report.
The Organizer source contains no intentional generic item generator. A nearby item-entity diagnostic followed by an inventory event points toward world pickup or another add-on; an inventory event without a nearby spawn points toward a direct inventory write.
Duplicate Pack Detected during import
- Confirm the new package version is higher than the installed copy.
- Remove obsolete Organizer copies under Settings → Storage → Behavior Packs and Resource Packs.
- Restart Minecraft and import again.
- Confirm the world uses the matching BP and RP version.
Reporting problems
Include:
- Organizer version
- Minecraft Bedrock version and platform
- Single-player, multiplayer, Realm, or server
- Personal or storage operation used
- Sorting rule, hotbar mode, Compact Hotbar, pins, active layout, and automatic toggle state
- Container type and whether a hopper or lock is adjacent
