Vitja's Spawn Eggs

Reusable spawn eggs, collectible mob essences, inventory crafting and permission-protected server settings.

Vitja's Spawn Eggs

Reusable spawn eggs for loaded Hytale mobs, with collectible mob essences, inventory crafting and server settings. Compatible modded creatures are discovered at startup.

Find a creature, take its egg, spawn it

Vitja's Spawn Eggs adds real items to Hytale's native Creative library. Search for Spawn Egg, Spawn, or a creature's name, or browse the Spawn Eggs category. The items are also listed under Items → Tools.

Use an egg on a surface with either the primary or secondary action to spawn its creature. Eggs stack to 64 and are reusable. They do not grant Creative mode or additional permissions.

Collect essences and craft your eggs

By default, an eligible mob death has a 10% chance to drop one matching Spawn Egg Essence, in addition to its ordinary loot. Collect 50 essences of the same creature to craft one reusable spawn egg through the inventory's Fieldcraft / Tools menu. Essences from different creatures cannot be mixed.

Essences use the corresponding creature portrait, or the custom egg fallback where a portrait is unavailable. Egg and essence names have complete English/German translation entries, including in Hytale's native crafting display.

Native Pocket Crafting with a clean inventory: 50/50 matching Antelope essences and one reusable spawn egg as the output. No workbench is required.

Configure your server in game

Open /vspawnegg to turn the essence system on or off, change the global chance, search the installed mob list and set individual overrides. These are server-wide settings, restricted to administrators or players granted vitja.spawneggs.admin. Ordinary players can collect essences and craft eggs without this permission; they cannot open the settings menu or reload the configuration. The menu rechecks permission for every action.

The menu offers Auto / Deutsch / English, saved per player without changing the main game's language. Settings are stored in the server's mods/Vitja_SpawnEggs/config.json; changes saved in the menu apply live.

The master switch disables both essence drops and their recipes; existing eggs and essences remain valid. A 0% override disables only that role's essence drop. Per-mob settings use the source pack and full NPC asset path, including supported modded mobs and variants.

Updated Vitjas InfoHUD+ and Vitja's Helper can show these additional drops with their effective chances. They are optional companion mods; Spawn Eggs works independently.

Admin-only essence drop and crafting settings

Enable or disable drops and recipes together, set the global chance, and save changes for the whole server.

Per-mob essence chances with full asset path

Select an installed creature to set its own chance or keep the inherited value. The full config key identifies its pack and NPC asset.

Recognizable inventory icons

Eggs use the portrait supplied by the creature's assets. If a usable portrait is missing, a custom egg icon identifies the item instead. Inventory icons are supplied images; they are not live renders of the creature's 3D model.

Miniature creatures in your hand

Supported eggs display a scaled version of the creature's existing base model in your hand. Large and small models are measured and scaled proportionally. The mod does not generate additional 3D models or change creatures in the world.

Compatible modded mobs are discovered at startup

The egg catalog is built after the server's asset packs have loaded. Compatible, spawnable NPC roles from other installed packs can be discovered without adding each creature by hand. Unspawnable and recognized technical roles are filtered. Distinct creatures, babies, bosses and color variants are kept separate unless a supported technical relationship identifies a duplicate.

The number of eggs varies with your installed assets. Adding or removing creature packs requires a server restart. The mod does not provide the creatures themselves.

Installation and compatibility

  1. Download Vitja's Spawn Eggs 0.2.0.
  2. Stop the server and place the JAR in its mods directory. When updating, replace the previous Spawn Eggs JAR and keep only one copy.
  3. Start the server and connect normally.
  4. Open Creative and search for Spawn Egg or a creature name.
  • Supported range: Hytale 0.7.x (>=0.7.0 <0.8.0).
  • Tested in game: Hytale 0.7.2. Earlier patch versions are not claimed as gameplay-tested.
  • Requires: Hytale's built-in NPC module. No separate creature pack is required for the base game's mobs.
  • Names: English and German, using available creature translations. Missing translations use a readable creature name.

Configuration

The first boot creates mods/Vitja_SpawnEggs/config.json. Essence settings apply live through /vspawnegg or /vspawnegg reload after manual file edits. Other catalog/model settings require a restart.

  • Include or exclude exact NPC role IDs.
  • Merge selected role IDs into a representative egg.
  • Override a creature's portrait with an existing common PNG asset.
  • Choose miniature held models or the shared egg appearance, and adjust miniature size.
  • Enable/disable essence drops and recipes, set the global chance and override exact mob asset paths. File chances are fractions from 0 to 1; the menu displays percentages from 0 to 100.

The generated catalog.json lists exact egg/essence IDs, source packs, override keys and diagnostic reasons. /spawneggs shows startup status; /spawneggs debug provides additional diagnostics. Other mods or server reward systems can give these normal item IDs to players.

Known limitations

  • Held miniatures keep their source model's pivot. Some creatures can appear too low or outside the first-person view. Generic hand centering is not provided.
  • Separate NPC clothing/accessories, gradient sets and animation controllers are not assembled into the held base model. A miniature can therefore differ from the fully dressed creature. Unsupported models retain the egg appearance.
  • Mod compatibility depends on valid assets registered with Hytale's native NPC system. Arbitrary custom spawn logic is not reconstructed, and every third-party pack has not been tested.
  • Hytale's native spawning and placement rules apply. Flying, aquatic and boss roles are not all individually tested.
  • Removing a creature pack removes its eggs from the next startup's catalog. Existing stacks then follow Hytale's normal missing-item behavior.
