π Shared Life: Shared Health, Shared Adventure
Shared Life is a multiplayer co-op mod for Hytale. Share your group's health, decide how players can heal, and choose which inventory sections everyone uses together. Every injury, potion and shared tool can become part of your team's adventure.
By default: health and deaths are linked, health potions can heal the group, natural regeneration is blocked, and inventory, toolbar, backpack and equipment sharing are all disabled.
β¨ Features
- π Linked health and deaths, or independent health with the same inventory-sharing options.
- π§ͺ Five healing policies, including potions only, consumable healing, food-dependent regeneration and no healing.
- π Normal respawn and native hardcore rules, including Nine Lives and Soulbound.
- π Separate sharing options for the main inventory, hotbar and tools, backpack, and worn equipment.
- π‘οΈ Optional common armor and utilities, with common utility selection and durability.
- βοΈ Shared tool wear from every player's use of the same item.
- π¦ Personal items preserved separately when a section becomes shared.
- π Automatic synchronization for players joining a run in progress.
- π¬ Optional damage announcements and summaries.
- π 19 language packs for messages, command help and status labels.
π Playing Together
- Install the mod on the server hosting your group, then restart the server.
- Join with your friends in Adventure mode. Creative players and spectators are excluded.
- Use
/sharedlifeto see the health, healing policy, native hardcore mode and active sharing options. - Choose your health and healing rules in the configuration.
- Enable the inventory sections you want to share with the commands below.
You can play on a dedicated server or a world opened to friends through Hytale's Online Play. See the official Joining Friends guide.
Sharing applies to all eligible Adventure players on the hosting server, including players in different worlds.
π Linked or Independent Health
LinkHealthAndDeaths controls who takes damage and who has to respawn.
true, default: the group's health is linked. Damage and permitted healing affect everyone. When one participant dies, the other participants die too.false: health stays individual. Only the affected player takes the injury or receives the healing. If that player dies, the others stay alive and continue playing, unless Hytale ends the run through its native hardcore rules.
With linked health, everyone shares the same percentage of maximum health. A player at 80/100 and another at 160/200 both have 80% health. Hytale calculates the injured player's armor protection before the health change is shared.
The healing policy and each inventory-sharing option can be used with either setting.
Health Bars and Remaining Lives
Your health bar and your remaining hardcore lives are separate:
- Shared Life can link the health bars and deaths of your characters.
- Hytale's selected hardcore mode determines the remaining-life allowance and when the run ends.
Nine Lives already gives the group one common remaining-life counter. That counter stays shared with either value of LinkHealthAndDeaths.
Example: Four Players in Nine Lives
Four players have nine remaining lives, and one receives a fatal hit:
| Setting | Who dies and must respawn? | Common remaining lives |
|---|---|---|
LinkHealthAndDeaths=true |
All four players die and must respawn. | 9 to 8, once for the linked death event. |
LinkHealthAndDeaths=false |
Only the affected player dies. The other three keep their health and continue playing. | 9 to 8, while the other three keep playing. |
Both cases cost the group one remaining life. The setting changes which characters share injuries and deaths. With independent health, the group shares its remaining-life allowance while each player keeps their own health bar.
Normal Mode, Nine Lives and Soulbound
| Hytale mode | Linked health | Independent health |
|---|---|---|
| Hardcore off | Everyone dies together and can respawn normally. | Only the affected player dies and can respawn normally. |
| Nine Lives | A linked group death consumes one life from the common counter. | Each individual death consumes one life from the common counter. |
| Soulbound | The first death ends the run for everyone. | The first death still ends the run for everyone. |
| Permadeath / Three Strikes | Deaths are linked, and each player uses their own native life allowance. | Deaths and native life allowances stay individual. |
When Nine Lives reaches 0, Hytale ends the run for everyone. Soulbound ends it at the first death. These rules apply even with LinkHealthAndDeaths=false.
Choose the hardcore mode in Hytale's world settings. In a normal game, players respawn normally. In hardcore, Hytale controls exhausted lives, spectator behavior and the end of the run. Use Hytale's world-management tools to start the next run.
π§ͺ Healing and Natural Regeneration
The Healing setting determines which sources can restore health. It applies whether health is linked or independent.
Healing value |
Allowed healing |
|---|---|
POTIONS_ONLY, default |
Health potions. Natural regeneration and food healing are blocked. |
CONSUMABLES_ONLY |
Health potions and instant food healing. Natural and food-based regeneration are blocked. |
GROUP_FED |
Regeneration requires an active food buff on every living participant. Potions and permitted direct healing remain available. |
ALL |
Normal Hytale healing and regeneration. |
NONE |
No healing, including health potions. Respawn still follows Hytale's rules. |
With linked health, permitted healing benefits the group. With independent health, it benefits only the player receiving it.
GROUP_FED checks the active food effects of the living participants. Native No Heal restrictions remain respected. Other effect properties, including stamina bonuses and duration, keep their native behavior.
Additional Healing Effects
AllowedHealingEffects accepts a list of exact healing-effect IDs to allow alongside the selected policy. Use effect IDs, rather than item names. The NONE policy always blocks healing, including effects in this list.
π Inventory, Toolbar, Backpack and Equipment
These four options are independent and disabled by default. Enable only the sections you want everyone to share.
| Setting | Shared contents | Active selection |
|---|---|---|
ShareInventory |
Main inventory, the Storage section. | Normal inventory controls. |
ShareToolbar |
Hotbar and dedicated Tool slots. | Each player chooses their own active hotbar or tool slot. |
ShareBag |
Backpack contents. | Normal inventory controls. |
ShareEquipment |
Worn armor and equipped utility slots. | The active utility selection is common too. |
Every enabled section uses one common stock. The group accesses the same items, quantities, metadata and durability.
Worn Armor and Utilities
Armor and utility slots remain personal until you enable ShareEquipment.
With equipment sharing enabled:
- Equipping a piece makes it the common equipped piece for everyone.
- Removing it unequips it for everyone and gives one item to the player who removed it.
- If the destination is full, the piece stays equipped.
- Selecting another utility or deactivating it applies to the whole group.
- Native equipment bonuses and appearance updates apply to each participant.
Character skins and cosmetics remain individual. Weapons and tools in the toolbar are controlled by ShareToolbar.
Shared Durability
A shared tool has one durability value. Every player's use wears down that same tool, so a group can wear it out faster through normal use. Equipment durability is also common when equipment sharing is enabled.
Death drops, item loss and durability loss follow Hytale's selected rules. Shared inventory operations are coordinated when players use the same stock at the same time.
Common Backpack Capacity
SharedBagSlots sets the common backpack size, from 1 to 108 slots, with 27 slots by default. Individual backpack upgrades do not resize the common stock.
Change this capacity only with the server stopped and the common backpack empty.
π¦ Your Personal Items Stay Available
When you enable sharing for a section, each player's existing contents are kept in a separate personal reserve. The first common stock for that section starts empty. Personal items are not automatically merged into it.
Use /sharedlife personal to withdraw the preserved items, then move or equip them through the normal inventory controls.
The reserve allows withdrawals only. You cannot deposit items, merge incoming stacks or swap new items into it. It cannot be reused as extra personal storage.
If your destination is full, the items stay in the reserve. A partial withdrawal keeps the remaining items there.
When sharing is disabled, each player gets their remaining personal contents for that section back. Personal equipment and its previous utility selection are restored too. The common stock stays saved for the next activation. Switching sharing off and on does not create another copy of the stock.
π Joining a Run in Progress
Players synchronize automatically once their character is ready on the server:
- With linked health, they adopt the group's current health percentage using their own maximum health. Joining does not heal or damage the group.
- With independent health, they keep their own health bar.
- Enabled shared sections connect to the existing common stock. Disabled sections stay personal.
- Existing personal contents from enabled sections are preserved in that player's reserve.
- The current healing policy and Hytale's native hardcore rules apply to them too.
A new arrival does not refill Nine Lives or revive a run that Hytale has already ended. Reconnecting on an existing death screen does not start another linked death for the living group.
βοΈ All Configuration Settings
The mod creates mods/MiniBox_SharedLife/config.json in the server's data directory. Stop the server before editing health, healing or capacity settings. Inventory-sharing options can also be changed with commands.
