What's new

ZenKit 2.4.0

A big performance update: much higher frame rate in large pulls, new nameplates for enemies, and a quieter chat.

Frame rate in big pulls

  • Enemy nameplates are now ZenKit's own. Before, ZenKit dressed up the game's nameplates, and the game kept running all of its own nameplate code underneath. That code no longer runs for enemies. Friendly nameplates are still the game's, styled as before.
  • When many mobs appear at once, their nameplates come in over a few frames instead of all in one, so a big pull no longer causes a hitch.
  • When the target changes many times a second (mobs dying one after another), the target frame, the target of target, the plates' target outline and your aura bars update at most ten times a second.
  • The game's own frames that ZenKit replaces (player, target, focus, boss, party and raid frames) no longer keep updating while hidden.
  • The game's hidden action bars no longer redraw on every cooldown and every cast. Your keys still work exactly as before, including press-and-hold spells and vehicles.
  • Range checks run only for buttons that are on screen and have a spell with a range, and only while the out-of-range color is on.
  • The boss timeline and the damage meter no longer update when there is nothing new to show.
  • Action bars no longer stutter after a fight or when stealth or a form switches your bar.

Nameplates

  • The cast bar has rounded corners and a proper outline like the health bar, with a rounded spell icon beside it.
  • Outlines are sharp now: 1 means exactly one screen pixel, the target's outline is 2. They looked thick and slightly blurry before.
  • Nameplates are a little rounder by default. The Radius slider still sets it.
  • Typing /zk plates own switches back to the game's nameplates with ZenKit's look, in case something looks wrong. The game then asks you to reload.

Chat

  • ZenKit no longer reaches into the game's chat code. This removes a cause of Lua errors around whispers in dungeons and raids. Tabs, unread marks and whisper badges look and work as before.

Turning modules off

  • Turning off Unit frames, Party frames, Action bars or Nameplates now asks you to reload the interface. The game's own frames come back fully after the reload.

Other

  • Fixed a possible Lua error with focus markers when the game hides a party member's identity.
  • DevTools: the Events tab can record a whole pull (Record and Stop), with every event and its time. The recording is kept after a reload.
  • Priority targets: updated mob lists from Mythic Dungeon Tools 6.3.6.

After updating, a /reload is enough.
