So here's where this one came from: I do a lot of late-night pugging, and more and more I'd land in groups with people chatting away in languages I just can't read. And every time, I'd think — man, it'd be really nice to actually know what they're saying. I don't speak every language, and I'm not trying to. I just wanted something simple: a little dictionary that gives me the gist, enough to follow along so I don't miss something that matters. The language barrier is a real thing in this game, and Common Tongue is my way of chipping away at it. On its own it's just the engine — add a language pack and it gets to work.
- Translates foreign-language chat into your own language, right in your chat window - across say, yell, party, raid, guild, officer, whispers, instance, and custom channels.
- Phrase-first matching: whole common phrases are translated before single words, so a line reads like a sentence instead of scattered word swaps.
- Every installed language is translated automatically - install as many language packs as you like, with no active language to pick.
- Companion language-pack system: install a separate language addon (like Xal's Common Tongue - Spanish) to add a language. The core does nothing on its own.
- Keeps the original: the translation shows first with a dim (auto) tag, then the original message right after it, so a false match never hides what was really said.
- Options window (standalone and in the AddOns list): switch translation on or off, show or hide the minimap button, and see your installed languages.
- Minimap button: left-click for options, right-click to toggle translation on or off.
- "What's New" splash on the first login after an update.
- Slash commands:
/xct on | off | options | list.
