What's new

Xal's Reins - Changelog

1.3.0 - September 13, 2026

While I was working on the new styling, I realized I wanted this whole thing to feel a lot more minimalistic - a lot of you like that cleaner, simpler flow, and I wanted the addon to actually reflect that. So instead of a popup taking over your screen, there's now a small icon that shows up when you're standing in a zone with a mount you can actually go get. There's also a setting to bring back the last mount you were working on, so you can jump right back to it whenever you want. A little icon that only shows up when it matters just felt a lot lighter than a full panel taking up space.

Thanks for being part of the Xal family.

🆕 New

  • A floating zone icon - flashes when the zone you're in has a mount you can actually go get, without needing a window taking up your screen.

🔧 Removed

  • The login popup reminding you about your last mount - replaced by the new icon above. There's a setting to bring the "last mount worked on" reminder back through the icon instead.

1.2.0 - September 3, 2026

I took another look at how this thing was styled and decided the original brand was leaning a little too blocky for my taste - so this update pulls it back toward something more minimal. The big visible change is the color scheme, and I think it makes things pop a lot more than before. My other addons go for a really minimal footprint, but Reins has such an extensive list to show that full minimalism was never really in the cards for this one - it just works differently here.

While I was in there restyling everything, I ended up finding a few bugs too. Some mounts were splitting into two different groups in the tracker even though they're really from the same place, the count at the top of the Raids and Dungeons tabs wasn't actually matching what was underneath it, and a few of the popup windows could get a little cramped and overlap their own text on mounts with a lot going on. All fixed now.

Thanks for being part of the Xal family.

1.1.0 - August 23, 2026

Hey Xal fam, I'm back after a nasty bout of being sick, with a few changes for you. Every expansion now has its step chains written up - I might've missed one or two here or there, I'm only human, so let me know if you spot a gap. Also caught one mount I'd missed the first time around: Umbral Ashes.

With everything going on in this game lately, I've been losing track of what I'm working on more than I'd like to admit - so I built something for that too. If you're partway through a mount's step chain, Reins will now pop up a small reminder on login pointing you back at whichever one you were last working on.

Thanks for being part of the Xal family.

🆕 New

  • Step-by-step chains for 626 mounts - every expansion now, from Classic all the way to Midnight. The quests, reputations, and currencies you need first, each ticking itself off against your character.
  • A login reminder for whichever mount you last made progress on - so a half-finished mount chain never just falls out of your head.

1.0.2 - August 19, 2026

Honestly, this one started because of my friends. A couple of them collect mounts, and every time I asked what they were using I'd get some version of "I installed it, opened it, and closed it again." The tools out there track everything in the game, which is genuinely impressive, but if all you want to know is which mounts you're still missing, you end up wading through a wall of checkboxes to get there.

So I built the opposite. Open it and the first thing you see is the mounts you can actually go and get on the character you're standing on - not every mount in the game, not the ones locked to the other faction, just what's in front of you. Click any of them and it tells you how to get it, and where the quest chain starts, without sending you off to a browser. That last part ended up mattering to me more than I expected. Alt-tabbing out to look something up breaks the whole flow of actually playing.

One fair warning: the step-by-step chains cover Midnight, The War Within and Dragonflight right now. Older mounts still show you where they come from, they just don't have the full walkthrough yet. I'm working backwards through the older expansions and those will land in future updates.

Thanks for giving it a try, and for being part of the Xal family.

🆕 New

  • The tracker - a to-do list of mounts you don't own that your character can actually get. It shrinks as you collect.
  • Click any mount for how to get it: who drops it, which vendor, which zone, and what it costs.
  • Step-by-step chains for 247 mounts - the quests and reputations you need first, each ticking itself off against your character.
  • Search every mount in the game, tagged so nothing vanishes because you're in the wrong zone or already own it.
  • Raids and Dungeons tabs, a zone filter that follows you, and your collection in its own window.
