CWS-1.2.5
What's new
1.2.5
Heroic Strike and replacement-audio recovery
- Added Midnight Heroic Strike (1269383) directly, without requiring legacy spell-name data.
- Limited replacement mutes to the supported specialization's dedicated ability audio; restored inherited shared weapon/spell effects and unsupported Revenge, Heroic Throw, and Die by the Sword sounds.
- Released CWS-owned mutes before loading screens and reapplied the configured mode on zone changes.
- Performed a one-time cleanup of known legacy CWS mutes on upgrade.
- If every audio layer of a confirmed cast fails, temporarily restore Retail sounds while continuing classic playback attempts. Automatically resume replacement after a fully accepted cast, without changing saved settings.
- Retained SFX volume routing and confirmed-success cast dispatch, with no sent-cast timers.
- Compared against Basically_Nixx's CWS 2.0: all 63 original audio files remain byte-identical. Added regression coverage for transitions, playback failures, recovery, and restricted-value guards.
- Classic playback remains enabled in arenas and battlegrounds. Tests use a simulated API; live Solo Shuffle playback has not been verified. Remaining file mutes are global and can affect other warriors using the same files.
1.2.4
Game-volume audio balance
- Changed the default custom-sound channel from Master to SFX so CWS follows the same Sound Effects volume as Retail abilities.
- Migrated existing Master-channel installations to SFX once, fixing excessively loud classic sounds without requiring a command.
- Preserved explicit channel choices made after the migration.
- Updated
/cws testdiagnostics to refer to the selected audio channel.
1.2.3
Single-sound replacement default
- Made Replace mode the default now that player casts use the reliable confirmed-cast path.
- Migrated existing 1.2.2 Safe-overlay installations once so Retail and classic ability sounds no longer play together.
- Kept
/cws mode safeavailable as an explicit persistent choice. - Preserved the Heroic Strike sound variants and tracked mute cleanup from 1.2.2.
1.2.2
Confirmed-cast reliability
- Removed the
UNIT_SPELLCAST_SENTtimer fallback completely; custom ability sounds now run only afterUNIT_SPELLCAST_SUCCEEDEDconfirms the player's cast. - Removed fabricated Bladestorm and Ravager tick timers, eliminating timer-generated ghost impacts after failed casts, cancellations, deaths, or loading screens.
- Split Bladestorm and Ravager handling so spell-name aliases cannot inherit the wrong behavior.
- Added a tracked mute lifecycle: CWS now restores only sounds it muted, repairs stale pre-1.2.2 mutes once, and always restores its mutes on logout.
- Kept all Heroic Strike variants explicitly audible in every mode.
- Made spell-name aliases recover automatically when Blizzard spell data is not ready during login.
- Added runtime regression tests for success-only dispatch, aliases, channel cleanup, mute recovery, and logout cleanup.
1.2.1
PvP audibility hotfix
- Added safe overlay mode as the default so a delayed or missing PvP spellcast event can no longer leave an ability completely silent.
- Moved custom sounds to the Master channel by default so they remain audible above combat effects.
- Explicitly restored the Heroic Strike sound variants that older
releases could leave muted after
/reload. - Added Heroic Strike and name-based aliases for every tracked warrior ability so spell overrides keep their classic sound.
- Added a short, cancelable
UNIT_SPELLCAST_SENTfallback for tracked instant abilities whenUNIT_SPELLCAST_SUCCEEDEDis delayed or omitted. - Added persistent
/cws mode safe|replaceand/cws channel master|sfx|dialogsettings.
1.2.0
Midnight 12.1 compatibility
- Updated the addon metadata for World of Warcraft 12.1.
- Migrated specialization and item lookups to the current Blizzard APIs.
- Updated warrior spell aliases for the current spellbook.
- Reworked Bladestorm and Ravager timing so their sounds no longer depend on removed combat-log events.
- Removed obsolete combat-text fallbacks that caused errors on modern clients.
- Hardened class detection, settings toggles, and slash-command handling.
- Added
/cws testto verify sound playback in game.
