Trailbook

Records your journey through Azeroth – route, quests, deaths, loot – and exports it to the Trailbook website, so it outlives your SavedVariables folder.

A route replays on the Trailbook map while the timeline runs

Trailbook records your journey in WoW Forever: your route every few yards, zone changes, flights and teleports, quests, levels, deaths, loot, gold, gear, group and guild.

Trailbook was inspired by Muddy Boots by Mookz, which lets you relive your journey right on the in-game world map. Trailbook covers the other side: it takes your journey out of the game. Import your Trailbook files on the Trailbook website and replay them on a map with a timeline, on any computer. As a side effect, your journey stays safe even if a reinstall, a new PC or a broken save wipes your SavedVariables.

Both addons run side by side without getting in each other's way, each keeps its own data. If you like to look back on your travels inside the game, give Muddy Boots a try as well.

How it works

  1. Play. A small line in the game shows how long it has been since the last save; /reload saves.
  2. Upload: open "Manage recordings" on the Trailbook website and drag your WTF folder in. Only what is new is taken over.
  3. Clear up: once the website says everything is there, right-click the Trailbook line in the game and choose "Clear up …" to keep the file small.

Features

  • Replay on a map with a timeline, coloured by movement, by level or from old to new
  • Share a character with a link: anyone can watch its journey, read-only and without signing in
  • Plain-text recordings, readable without the addon
  • A small status line shows how much is not saved yet and turns red when no saved data was loaded
  • Keeps the game's file small: right-click the status line to hide it or to clear up what is already on the website (also /trailbook clear)
  • English and German

Feedback

Questions, ideas or something not working? I'd love to hear from you:

  • Ideas and questions: leave a comment right here in the comments.
  • Bugs: please open an issue on GitHub. It helps a lot if you add what you did, what happened and, if there was one, the Lua error.
