TooltipReader

TooltipReader is an accessibility addon for World of Warcraft that reads tooltips and UI information aloud using World of Warcraft's built-in Text-to-Speech system.

The addon is designed to make information that normally requires visual reading easier to access through speech. Simply move your mouse over supported items, units, buttons or other UI elements and TooltipReader will attempt to read the relevant information aloud.

Tooltip Reading

TooltipReader can automatically read many types of World of Warcraft tooltips, including items, units, spells, quests, objects and other supported UI elements.

Full Item Information

Item tooltips can include the item name, item level, equipment type, armor, attributes, secondary stats, durability, requirements and sell price.

Equipment Comparison

When World of Warcraft displays its equipment comparison information, TooltipReader can read the resulting stat changes separately after the item information.

For example:

“Changed stats. Plus 26 Critical Strike. Minus 22 Haste. Minus 4 Mastery.”

This makes it easier to hear which attributes you gain and which attributes you lose when replacing an equipped item.

UI Element Reading

TooltipReader is not limited to traditional item tooltips. It also attempts to detect readable interface elements such as buttons, tabs, menu entries and other highlighted UI controls.

This is especially useful for navigating parts of the World of Warcraft interface that do not always provide a traditional GameTooltip.

Text-to-Speech

TooltipReader uses World of Warcraft's built-in Text-to-Speech functionality. No external speech software or service is required.

Speech volume and speech speed can be adjusted through the addon's options.

German TTS Support

TooltipReader can automatically use an available German Text-to-Speech voice. The exact voices available depend on the operating system and World of Warcraft.

How to use

Install TooltipReader and enable Text-to-Speech support in World of Warcraft.

Move the mouse over an item or supported interface element. TooltipReader automatically detects readable information and sends it to the game's Text-to-Speech system.

For equipment items, the normal item information is read first. If Blizzard provides equipment comparison values, TooltipReader can announce those changes separately.

Configuration

TooltipReader includes configurable speech options such as:

• Speech volume
• Speech speed
• Tooltip reading behavior

Additional options may be added as development continues.

TooltipReader is primarily designed as an accessibility tool for players who benefit from spoken interface information, including visually impaired players and anyone who prefers audio feedback instead of reading every tooltip manually.
