Tinker 1.0.0
What's new
1.0.0
First release.
Tinker is a settings window for the console variables WoW Forever does not put in its options menu, plus a handful of interface changes the client gives you no way to make at all.
The window
- 94 settings worth changing, sorted into 10 categories: Camera, Nameplates, Graphics, Quality of life, Targeting, Sound, Raid profile, Chat, Interface and Developer.
- Graphics is split under sub-headings for view distance, visual clutter, performance and shadows.
- Every setting shows its current value and its default, and hovering it explains what it does in plain words.
- Search covers all 1,795 variables on your client, not only the ones Tinker writes about, and finds the interface toggles by name too.
- Settings the options menu already covers are marked, so the ones you cannot reach any other way stand out.
- Anything the client reports as locked, secure or read only is shown greyed and cannot be written.
- Changes needing a reload are flagged, and the Reload button only lights up when something is actually waiting. Put a value back and it greys out again.
- Resizable window that remembers its size, right click a row to copy its variable name, and a minimap button you can drag around the edge.
Settings you can reach
- View distance past where the slider stops, including horizon start, terrain detail range and object cull distance.
- Fog, including volumetric fog on or off, fog quality, indoor fog and light scattering.
- Visual clutter: spell effect density, weather, bloom, glow, ambient occlusion, sun shafts and more.
- Shadows: mode, cascades, resolution, soft edges and fade distance.
- Camera: maximum zoom past the usual limit, turn speed, terrain tilt and water collision.
- Raid profile, a second graphics profile that only applies in raids and has no menu anywhere in the game.
- Plus nameplates, targeting, sound, chat, interface scale and developer options.
Interface changes
- Hide surnames in chat. Mull Tate reads as Mull. Only changes what you see, not what you type or how others see you.
- Hide surnames above players. The same for the name over someone's head. Separate toggle, since nameplates and chat are unrelated. Health and level text on the plate are left alone.
- Square minimap, with the mask, border and addon buttons all following. Four border styles: thin, slim gold, wood or none.
- Chat copy button on each chat window, opening that window's text in a box you can select and copy. Each tab copies only itself. The corner is configurable.
- Hide action bar art, the gryphons and the panel behind the main bar.
- Minimap clutter toggles for the clock and its sun and moon dial, the zoom buttons, the zone name and the tracking eye.
Commands
/tinkeropens the window./cvarand/tinkdo the same./tinker find <text>searches from the chat line./tinker auditchecks every setting against your client and reports any your build does not carry./tinker rescanre-reads the variable list.
Known limits
- A few settings need a full client restart rather than a reload. These are marked in the window.
- Settings this client does not carry are left out rather than shown as
broken rows.
/tinker auditwill tell you if your build differs.
